Honestly I'm trying but I can't get into God Control at all. That disco beat is doing nothing for me. Same with I Don't Search I Find. Both feel like they don't even belong on this album.

Also there are more gay dads these days

After two days the previously unreleased songs on Spotify:

    1.54m Faz Gostoso (+642k)
    573k Crazy (+198k)
    529k God Control (+208k)
    477k Bitch I'm Loca (+189k)
    381k I Don't Search (+153k)
    375k Batuka (+144k)
    352k Killers (+137k)
    311k Come Alive (+124k)
    295k Looking For Mercy (+120k)
    290k Extreme Occident (+115k)

It’s the Brazil effect but Faz Gostoso is clearly where there might be a hit at.

Yeah I'm not quite getting God Control. I'm a disco beat slut but it just doesn't work for me.

    Yet.

If she is smart enough, the next video she makes is Faz Gostoso. There is HUGE potential there. Also, that and Medellin are the two songs that really made me like her again and believe in the artist she can be.

I have not yet listened to the album, waiting for tomorrow evening when I can sit and listen properly.
I did catch her on Graham Norton though, and was annoyed that the stupid eye patch was not even positioned correctly.

So happy about the general reviews though, and that it looks like its going in at #1 in the US

I wouldn't be so sure yet. Jonas Brothers' streaming numbers are huge and she's back down to No. 2 on iTunes in most territories below Bruce.

I think she's more likely to get UK than US number 1 but honestly wouldn't be surprised if she misses out on both.

Those who have bought the vinyl will have noticed the track-listing order is wrong on the back cover. Kind of. It says Future is the last song of Side A while it's actually the first song on Side B.

    ANYWAY.

I can see Bruce and maybe Bastille outselling her in the UK; but we will see.

It’s his first studio album released in the streaming era, isn’t it?

Not sure. But I'd have thought he'd have run Madonna a lot closer on sales than the figures I've seen.

Bruce's streaming numbers are lower than hers but I can see him outselling her on physicals. Bastille's streaming numbers are higher than hers, but I imagine her physical sales will be higher than them. One thing she has over both of them is the power of the loon purchase with all the multiple formats (Bruce has this limited numbered vinyl/test pressing thing but it's nothing compared to her rainbow vinyls, UK exclusive cassettes, official store bundles etc.). But let's wait and see.

Isn't that just a projection from Hits Daily double based on day 1 though?

She was projected for No. 1 with Rebel Heart by them and that turned out wrong.

I would definitely say that the PLETHORA of versions available and the propensity for her fanbase to make multiple purchases will stand her in good stead.

Bruce might be more widely and visibly stocked, but he surely doesn’t have the LOON factor boosting him.

Funana is a pretty sweet song though three songs on cd2 seems just messy to me.

Yeah I don't see the point... I'm sure they could have just had all 18 songs on one CD?

I thought that too with Kylie’s #1 HIT album, Golden, but it had legs. Though she did work the record pretty well. I predict 2 weeks in the top 10 for Madame X.

They’re an obvious drop in quality, though. This way it doesn’t affect the way the album is judged...

The bonus tracks are so shit except Ciao Bella. Back That Up To The Beat used to be a bop but now it’s NOT.

Yeah I suppose back in the old days they would have been B-sides.

By the way, according to the rumour mill, unlike the Rebel Heart sessions most of what was recorded was actually released this time around, which would also explain "Back That Up" resurfacing in this era...

I find all three utterly disposable but "Funana" is probably my favourite.

I actually prefer the original "Back That Up", but both versions are equally inessential.

"Ciao Bella" sounds like a Eurovision entry. In 1993. And not in a good way.

Ciao Bella gives me good feels. I don’t care how Seal-circa-1993 it sounds, it’s gorgeous.

Funana is sweetly adorable. Y’all have swinging BRICKS for hearts.

It's interesting having her express her dislike of the songwriting camps of MDNA / Rebel Heart. I wonder how/why she pushed into doing them if she wasn't happy. It also explains a lot about the quality of those albums, and continues to put them in the kind of context that William Orbit had provided us with.

The songwriting camps still DON'T explain the terrible production, mixing and mastering jobs done across those albums - the songwriting actually wasn't the problem for the most part (case in point Love Spent)

But I think she’s back in the USA now so if she is at all on The ONE Show it may be taped and sadly not a sit down PROPER interview on the sofa

I really can't see her beating Bastille here or Bruce in the US - I think we might be looking at #2 in both countries (which is fine)

Fallon promo might give her a little boost midweek

She was asked by Brazilian media about a video for Faz Gostoso and she replied she had no budget left to do one for it (she might be trolling I guess) and asked them for $300K to do one. The latter part jokingly of course.

The "Batuka" and "Killers" combo leaves me bald tbh. If the entire album explored this marriage of electronic production + Portuguese music/tribal elements I think it could have been up there with her best. Right now it's definitely not but it gives me HOPE.
