Seperate thread for the new album. Should leak any day. I think I will just explode, take that how you will, when it leaks :o

I went to the album launch party on Thursday night, but they only played a dance megamix of album tracks so I am absolutely none the wiser as to what the album is like.

I don't know if I REALLY care. "Girls" is so rubbishy that I can't get excited, although they've never had a truly duff album.

I dunno, we'll wait and see I guess- I've asked for it for my birthday, so I won't get it until at least the weekend after it's out...

It's a bit worrying when the best thing on there is the ballad version of About You Now... :o

    Early clip judgements:

You On A Good Day - funky. love the lyrics. no time for capital letters here btw, im writing as i go!
No Can Do - i know this'll be a favourite of mine. really love that uplifting vibe.
Hanging On A Star - this sounds great, frankly. not a single, but a lovely album track most likely.
Side Chick - given that this is just the verse, it's hard to say. but i think i'll love it. i'm a right sucker for speedy vocal delivery
Unbreakable Heart - meh. we'll see... i like heidi's vocoded bit at the end muchly.
Sunday Rain - sounds lush and orchestral indeed. Funeral-esque. Me likey.
Every Heart Broken - crisper production I never did witness. We ALL KNOW this'll be their best song ever, so...
Beware - sounds a tad empty? The gaps after 'you beware' are ill-fitting. I hope this grows.
Nothing's As Good As You - sounds quite wonderful. I like a nice dose of Amellechorus.
Sound Of Goodbye - Not the most exciting on first listen
Can We Call A Truce - The verses are EXACTLY the same as Every Heart Broken's. This is a good thing, but still, LAZY

    To conclude, VG indeed!

I'm actually quite excited about this, I have to admit that as a singles act I prefer them sticking to uptempos but if I had to choose an album to listen to, it'd probably be 'Change' because I find the mellower stuff much more pleasant to listen to as a body of material.

    Sugababes to make temporary split?
    Wednesday, October 15 2008, 12:32 BST

    By Sarah Rollo

The Sugababes are to temporarily split so that Keisha Buchanan can fulfil her dream of studying at university, reports say.

The founding member said that being in the girl group since the age of 12 had meant she was never able to carry out further studies.

"It's my dream to study at university. I've been in Sugababes since I was 12, so I would love the opportunity," she is quoted as saying. "We would do our individual projects and come back together stronger than before."

Buchanan recently claimed the group are more successful than their rivals, Girls Aloud. "I get asked a lot, 'aren't they a bigger band than you?' Well, no. They're not," she said.

That story is such bullshit! The uni thing is just something she might do after this album has finished, when they were intending to finally take a break. I hate the bastarding press.

No Can Do is the second single - clip on popjustice here

And no Funky, the next album will be out in October 2010

Oh my... this has just made me discover that John Barrowman song - which is REALLY GOOD. :o Though the gay friendly video makes me laugh. :D

The only good thing John Barrowman can do is die in great pain.

That uni story is daft. She can go to Uni when she is thirty odd. And I'm sure she won't be doing the whole Halls and Union pound party thing, so being old is even less of an issue.

She probably happened to mention to some hack at a party that she wants to go to Uni at some point... and suddenly the band are splitting up

It'll be like Desiny's CHild all over again - years of split rumours and when it finally happened the papers were like "WE TOLD YOU SO" as though they first reported it last week

Whilst this is a nice clip and all that, Every Heart Broken would have been the better/more epic choice.

Despite the single I'm interested to hear this album because of this "new organic sound" that they're bragging about.

    YAY for the leak :D

I'm really worried this won't even go top 5. :(

I'm even more worried that the outro to No Can Do won't be the greatest outro of all time. Despite my love of the LQ live version of Every Heart Broken, it's that outro that keeps returning to my head. :shy:

    Verdicts from my initial listen:

    1. Side Chick | Absolutely the most wonderful Sugababes song ever. Totally incredible. R&B, so so modern. Rap-like verses. 12455/10
    2. Unbreakable Heart | Just immense, again. Amazing key change near the end and a great vocoded Heidi bit. Brilliant key change too. 10/10
    3. Can We Call A Truce | Probably an even better closer than Now You're Gone. Amazing Heidi verse and Amelle chorus. Epic strings. 10/10
    4. Hanging On A Star | This is class. Brilliantly youthful, retro yet modern. A 'bit' like a GA song actually. I think it sounds Xenomania-ish. 10/10
    5. Every Heart Broken | Already spoken about this. Great song. 9.5/10
    6. Nothing's As Good As You | Gorgeous, cute without being cutesy. Fab vocals. 9/10
    7. You On A Good Day | Brilliant lyrics, brilliant vibe, brilliant spoken bits. A future favourite I'm sure. 9/10
    8. Girls | Obviously we all know this, and I love it. 9/10
    9. Sound Of Goodbye | A sad song, it's production reminds me of a Robbie Williams ballad! Though better than that obv. 9/10
    10. Sunday Rain | Grand, like a Bond song. Dark. Will grow for sure. 8.5/10
    11. No Can Do | Great chorus, so-so verses. Brilliant final minute. 8/10
    12. Beware | Not a classic, I think it's fair to say. Alright, but bordering on filler perhaps. 7/10

Their best album by a country mile. I just adore it already.

This shit is TOO MUCH, I think im DRUNK OFF SUGA

Everything gets better with every listen. I didn't even think that was possible.

Side Chick and Truce are soon to be in my Sugababes top 5, of that I have no doubt.

Catfights and Spotlights RATE (based on first listen only)

    1. Girls 8.5/10 - This has grown LOADS
    2. You on a Good Day 8/10
    3. No Can Do 7/10
    4. Hanging on a Star 8/10
    5. Side Chick 7.5/10
    6. Unbreakable Heart 9/10 - sounds excellent on first listen, I'm sure it will grow even more in the future
    7. Sunday Rain 9/10 - stunning chorus/melody
    8. Every Broken Heart 8/10
    9. Beware 6/10
    10. Nothing's as Good as You 7/10
    11. Sound of Goodbye 8/10
    12. Can We Call a Truce 8/10

It's much better than I expected it to be. As of the first listen there's nothing utterly amazing on it, but that's a bit unfair as I've only heard it once. I'm sure a couple of the higher marks will be upgraded to a 10 in a few listens. And there's nothing really offensive on it either, so it's quite consistent.

Honestly, I stayed objective (!), it's just THAT good!

It's getting such a positive response everywhere too. With Change, it was all pretty negative-to-mixed.

POP, how dare you. As if GA could match such quality. :gross:

    It's actually REALLY good :o

Pretty consistent with only a couple of real fillers. The rest is very listenable and pleasant. WELL DONE SUGAS. I'm thinking it was actually worth having a shit lead single this time around for an album that wasn't disappointing.
