Interesting to see it performing globally. I was always under the impression that they were very much local stars in their heyday. I think Tragedy was their only hit that really crossed over outside the UK.

They were complete local stars after Tragedy (except Belgium where they remained decently popular - even Buzz hit #11). But up until then they did quite well. Three top tens in Australia, two in NZ, a top 10 Platinum album in each.
Think the first four singles did ok on the mainland as well.

But yeah, overall they weren't relevant bar one or two singles. So it's nice to see.

I always thought it was odd that they were never particularly popular in Sweden, given their sound. But then I guess the Swedes had plenty of local equivalents, so there wasn't much demand.

Why have ersatz Swedish pop when you can have the real thing?

True (if a bit harsh). I guess the closest Swedish equivalent would be the A*Teens.

So still number one on iTunes and Amazon physical. 2 on amazon downloads behind Now 96. So looks like they are still outselling Ed.

Ed did 42k sales and 19k stream last week. I have an unsettling thought that they will be the number one selling album of the week but he will beat them due to streaming. Which is awful - I'd rather he beat them in both if they aren't getting the official number one. But who knows - he's stocked in more supermarkets etc so he may actually beat them in both. Midweeks will be interesting.

I can't take another Rebel Heart situation where they're #1 on sales but #2 due to streaming, I agree that it's kinder to us all if he just outdoes them on both

Story of a Heart is also #145 on Spotify.

No, I WANT them to be #1 on sales, even if they are denied it overall. And fuck any comparison with Rebel Heart, which got more than it deserved.

I'm not convinced they will be #1 on sales though. For everyone raving about it, surely it's still preaching to the converted at this point. If Sheeran did 42k sales last week, I suspect he's got 35k in him this week. We'll see...

They are still #1 on all platforms though two days after release which means they are still selling more despite fans already having it. Apparently they sold enough on day one to 'have the number one album this week'. I am praying they are surprising us with a 50k opening and a #1 in all charts. *deluded*

I'm sure that's an absolute crock. Or it's someone twisting a statistic completely.

Either way though, it is great that they are still #1 - like you say, the immediate sales will have dropped off now from the rolling period they base charts on, although it's only really one day after release as iTunes at least uses a 24 hour period, I believe.

Sheeran slumped 25% last week. If he does the same this week, that will put him just over 45k.

    DARE WE DREAM? :D

I know, it was a quote from haven from someone who apparently knows...it probably means they actually sold more on day one.

    But you never know :disco:

I'd say top two is a lock and that's pretty amazing

Oh and #8 for the single on iTunes now. I am so happy to see new Steps music actually fighting it out (sales wise) with the big hitters.

Yes, Tears on the Dancefloor is number 1. Just over 4k ahead of Sheeran, so probably not enough to hold on until Friday, but WAY ahead of number 3.

They've sold 26.8k since Friday so not too shabby at all!

Ultimate Collection is at 16 as well, and Scared of the Dark has snuck back in at 35.

Apparently it was quite frontloaded so 35k might be more realistic, but still, only a handful of albums have opened with more than that this year.

    You never know.

I can see the same happening as with the Ultimate Collection being #1 in the midweeks.

The sheer unlikelinees of it seemed to propel it over the finish line.

It would be so ridiculously amazing if it did take number one but surely it won't. I for one am playing only Spotify all this week in an attempt to "DO MY BIT"

Boo they'll be number two tomorrow or Wednesday. But still, should do 35-40k which is fab. And GH back top 20, and single top 40. Amazing

:o #1 is great. I thought after the single flopped that the album would struggle too, but it looks like it's going to do ok.

How can I start to tell you, like your favourite pub, there's hardly any. They just reform after 17 years, and like they've forgot about the sweat and the long journeys in the back of vans. They're just running on Rememberance, and remember this is an encore time at the end of 90 minutes on the stage. They appear out of nowhere and like expect you to treat them like an equal, while they've been decorating or teaching for like the last 10 years, having a life and a wife and a kids. And they say a tenner an EP, get home for half three. I smell the brown mews in the dark, I recognise the sparse carpet weekend '89. Deep seated, early finish. Rust, rememberances are dust, the early push, the fear of parking fee.

    FACTS:

    1. Lead cut to around 1000 "sales" today
    2. Actual cry of "It's stocking problems" from middle aged gay on Facebook Steps group ( :D )
    3. Even better cry of "How do I stream it?", "I won't have time to do it more than once- will that make a difference?" from middle aged woman on Facebook Steps group
    4. Loose Women tomorrow, not sure if performance or LSL talking about her impending menopause, but either way...

    GAME ON SHEERAN :disco:

I always remember an indignant Lisa Scott-Lee on CD:UK complaining that stocking problems meant that "It's The Way That You Make Me Feel" only being #2 to Rui Da Silva's "TOUCH ME". I hope for a televised repeat next week.

I thought that was just a myth.

Not that I have any sales figures to back it up but I thought 'Touch Me' sold far more that week than Steps would have made up with the sales from the previous week added.

I legit bought ITWYMMF a week early at Woolies. I was DELIRIOUS.

But if they contributed to denying Steps a number one (with their best track) then I'M GLAD they went under!

Nah....ITWYMMF sold 1,000 the week in advance. They were 15,000 behind Rui Da Silva the next week. They were never number one.

So they'll be 34-37k. Great result overall, really a #2 with such a strong opening (must be top 10 of the year openings?) is amazing. And the GH back in at #17.
