What was the best thing that happened to you in 2017? I graduated and got a cat.

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017? Employment problems.

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)? Blondie, Steps, Charli XCX, Lana Del Rey

Your favourite Moopy poster(s) 2017: Mugatu, Suomi or Octophone.

What was your greatest achievement in 2017?: Oh the degree without a doubt.

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things): Maintain employment(!) and start a Masters.

What took you by surprise this year?: That I was living with a lying alcoholic. And that I really fucking love London.

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2018? I don't think so, it's hard to tell.

Do you have more money this year than you did last year? Again, that's hard to tell. Student loans vs full time wages makes it hard to tally up.

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life? Probably, but little to shout about. I went up The Shard.

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018? Probably just lose a bit of weight. Stop smoking again, but I don't see that as an immediate concern, as it's so inconsistent these days. Also probably get off the mood stabilisers. I miss knowing how I feel.

What was the best thing that happened to you in 2017?: Finally quit my shit job, moved back to Brighton and met some cool new people. The course isn't as great as I'd hoped but I'm broadly still enjoying it, even if I'm not sure I'm actually going to end up being a journalist in the end.

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017?: Wasting eight months working as a receptionist, realising that most of my friends are drifting into the boring serious relationship stage and I'm not quite there yet.

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)?: Lorde - Melodrama

Your favourite Moopy poster(s) 2017: monsta, Gangsta Nancy Lam, Zu-Klara before she had to go in the home over Christmas

What was your greatest achievement in 2017?: Hit the reset button on my shit life and went back to uni, which I think worked out pretty well.

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things): Graduate with a decent final grade, get something published, avoid moving back to the Midlands permanently, go on a few dates or some other gay shit like that.

What took you by surprise this year?: My own laziness

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016?: Yeah, I can remember my responses to last year's questionnaire being incredibly fucking depressive. I really agree with what Ag said in a daily thread about the start and end of life phases, I feel like I'm nearing the end of this one but I don't feel that bad about it (yet).

Do you have more money this year than you did last year?: About the same, although living in Brighton until at least September (and hopefully longer) will fuck me financially.

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life?: Got fairly radicalised politically, I guess! Full-time work, being extremely online and the world slowly turning to dust will do that.

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018?: I need to plan out work way better than currently. Be less cynical and do something about my anxiety/stop being a mental

What was the best thing that happened to you in 2017? - Having my fanny installed.

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017? - the recurrence of my depression and hitting the "treatment resistant" category.

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)? - Kelly Moran. She's a pianist and composer from New York and she's mindblowing. Also, SOPHIE's recent one-two suckerpunch of "It's Okay To Cry" and "Ponyboy", Lana Del Rey's "Love". Charli XCX - "Boys" and the mixtapes. Some great reissues too from Art Of Noise, Yoko Ono, James and The Fall.

Your favourite Moopy poster(s) 2017 - Zu Klara, lolly and Ag. Come back Z-K, ya daftie.

What was your greatest achievement in 2017? - still being here at the end of it.

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things) - I've been threatening to make a punk album for a while and I think it's finally brewing.

What took you by surprise this year? - finding out that I was actually highly regarded at work. Some people are so bloody stand-offish and then they hit you with that out of nowhere...

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016? - Yes. Unquestionably. I may have Venlafaxine to thank for that for the moment but so be it.

Do you have more money this year than you did last year? - no but I had been saving up last year as I was anticipating a longer layoff from work than actually occurred

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life? - fingered myself in front of a stranger. Sure, she was a specialist nurse in the hospital but why spoil a good headline?

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018? -less chocolate, more books, more time outdoors.

And a fabulous 2018 to you and yours as well @Star.

What was the best thing that happened to you in 2017?: When i woke up with a stinking hangover in Bosnia and went for a swim in a freezing cold lake. I know it doesn't sound much, but the instant relief caused by all my senses being shut down may have been the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. (also, i got promoted at work, that was nice)

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017? Being a bit more unhealthy than i thought.

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)? Sorry, what?

Your favourite Moopy poster(s) 2017: Octophone's resurgence has been pleasing.

What was your greatest achievement in 2017? I had a pretty pleasing drilling experience earlier in the year. And growing peas. Ooh, and i am adding to my hipster lifestyle by brewing beer from scratch.

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things): Total destruction of anyone who opens packets of crisps upside down.

What took you by surprise this year? Haberdashery

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016? I'm a pretty consistent person. No more happy or sad.

Do you have more money this year than you did last year? Yes. Middleclass4life

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life? Nothing significant.

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018? Gonna actually quit smoking in the new year. Yeah i know. but, health.

What was the best thing that happened to you in 2017?

Getting a new job and realising that I could function outside of a work environment I felt trapped in. Also going to Vegas and seeing Britney with my mum was pretty special.

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017?

I haven’t talked about this on Moopy but I tried to kill myself in the summer after months of my boss making my life hell and also my inability to deal with guilt over my previous relationship that was eating me up. I was found by Mr. Slave and months of counselling later I’m in a much better place but it was fairly horrendous.

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)?

Carly Rae Jepsen - Cut To The Feeling

    Your favourite Moopy poster(s) 2017

I didn’t vote in Moopyrate because I’ve reached a point with Moopy where I’m just glad we’re all still together and we’re still here. But I do miss Star on a personal level, still the most impossibly nice person I’ve ever met.

What was your greatest achievement in 2017?

As above, after six years of working in the same place, taking the plunge and moving to a different job when I’d been wanting to for such a long time but never felt like I was capable of.

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things)

Lose the 2 stone I’ve put on this year.

What took you by surprise this year?

The return of Steps in a manner that was not as thoroughly embarrassing as it had always threatened to be.

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016?

Yes. This time last year I didn’t honestly see much of a future for myself. Now I feel like I’ve got everything to live for.

Do you have more money this year than you did last year?

I’m earning more but I have less in my savings.

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life?

I went go-karting and paintballing. The former was a lot of fun, the latter was one of the least enjoyable things I’ve ever done in my life. Painful, expensive and far too serious.

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018?

Eating. Or more specially, eating out of habit when I’m not hungry. Oh, and I want to get better at replying to text messages instead of looking at them and then not bothering to respond.

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017?: I hated my job and that brought me down for a few months, but then I quit.

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)?: Cut to the Feeling

    Your favourite Moopy poster(s) 2017: Erm...Mugatu maybe.

What was your greatest achievement in 2017?: Volunteering in Cambodia

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things): Find a job that I'm quite happy in.

What took you by surprise this year?: I think I was thrown through a loop with the teaching job and having to leave something was a shock but a growing experience.

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016?: Erm, I'm trying to remember last year. I think I'm about as happy but maybe more content, if that makes sense.

Do you have more money this year than you did last year?: Yes but not by much.

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life?: This is hard. I went to Asia but I've mentioned that twice.

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018?: Worrying so much. Biting my nails.

    Happy new year!

What was the best thing that happened to you in 2017?
    Giving birth

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017?
Losing my beautiful Granny Star just weeks before Baby Kylie was born

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)?
Hmmm. I've not had much time for music this year!

    Your favourite Moopy poster(s) 2017
    Love you all obviously

What was your greatest achievement in 2017?
Giving birth. I actually loved it.

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things)
I'd love to learn not to give a sh*t about certain things. Not in a bad way to be mean to people, but my mind never stops working and it keeps me awake at night. I'd like to learn not to let things bother me so much. But part of me thinks I always will be bothered because I care too much...

What took you by surprise this year?
People always say the moment your child is born is the best moment of your life and suddenly you have a reason to live. I certainly shed a tear when he was put on my chest, but I didn't have that 'moment' where suddenly my life had changed and all of a sudden had purpose. The day Baby Kylie was born was very much akin to my wedding day - it feels like a dream. But I couldn't pick one day over the other as being the best. I absolutely love being a mother, but it just feels very 'normal' to me rather than 'amazing'. I think lolly summed it up really well when he said it sounded like motherhood was evolutionary rather than revolutionary to me.

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016?
Happier now. How could I not be?!

Do you have more money this year than you did last year?
Less. 12 years of service and I get given statutory maternity pay.

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life?
Did I mention I gave birth??

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018?
Stop being such a perfectionist :D

I don’t have a solution as such but I can only reiterate what you already know about this very bad habit.

My Mum has driven herself into a depression this year because she CANNOT stop worrying about everything. To the point where she worrries about worrying. It has left her absolutely exhausted and granted my issues this year haven’t helped, but sometimes she worries about things in my life that I don’t even worry about.

Don’t let that take over your life. You’re of course always going to naturally worry about Baby Kylie but don’t let it get out of hand or you might not even be able to enjoy the things that you should enjoy.

I sat down and had a stern word with my mum because she’s worried now about her parents ailing health. She’s taken every Monday off of work to do something with them but instead of ENJOYING it, she just worries incessantly that it’ll be the last time they do anything together or that they didn’t really enjoy it.

    Don’t become my Mum, Star.

Star babes, you need to take up mindfulness - it will help clear your mind from racing thoughts. I did a 10 week course through work and it's really helped me sleep better.

Thanks for the xmas card xx

How did you find it? I did a 4 week course a few years back, really got on with it, and so did a longer one (I think 12 weeks) about a year ago. I really struggled towards the end of it, though. Particularly with a lot of the mindful movement stuff. It brought up lots of pain issues I didn't even know I had.

Oh I didn't like the movement exercises either. I have to be sitting or lying down. Some of it was ridiculous but I took what I needed to from it and at the very least it's made me stop rushing around so much.

I do a bodyscan meditation before bed whenever I'm really stressed and need to switch off, and it usually helps me get off and sleep through. It's helped me with my nerves at work too, to focus and calm down before giving a speech or presentation, or holding a scary meeting etc.

I probably do a body scan about once a month. I do the three minute breathing space thing quite often though, perhaps 2 or 3 times a week. Usually sat on my own in between clients.

Bought a new car, had some nice holidays, got a pay rise...

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017?
I've applied for a few jobs and haven't got them, which is always disappointing, but I'm resilient and optimistic that the right thing will come along.

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)?
Probably Lana Del Rey. I don't really buy current music anymore.

What was your greatest achievement in 2017?
I was awarded the National Professional Qualification for Headship in January and got to the final round of interviews for the Headship of a prestigious prep school. I didn't get it - ultimately I was relieved as it wasn't the right fit but proud of myself.

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things)
Sell our flat in London, buy a house in Devon/Somerset, get settled there, find a job. Oh and we're getting a dog!

What took you by surprise this year?
Husband accepted an amazing new job in Somerset so we are moving at Easter. I had complete faith in him but it was still a nice surprise after years of planning and talking about moving.

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016?
    Yes

Do you have more money this year than you did last year?
    Yes

Went to Croatia. It was very nice. Saw Celine Dion live and cried.

Going a whole year without psychological therapy

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017?
Getting screwed over by the company I've worked at for 3 years, and panicking over the loss of immediate post-graduation employment that I always thought was guaranteed.

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)?
A solid year of music, with an especially high number of Eurovision entries being camp and credible.

    All hail Octy

What was your greatest achievement in 2017?
Holding my own concert, without autotune, backing singers, nor a single fuck about pitching

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things)
Just hold my shit together. Baby steps go a long way Jæ

What took you by surprise this year?
The unraveling of Hollywood's sex scandals and the ensuing moral panic. The sustained spread of right-wing politics was totally expected though.

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016?
Definitely, having an exchange to look forward to instead of another gruelling semester helps a lot.

Do you have more money this year than you did last year?
YAAASSSS. I worked myself hoarse many times over for it.

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life?
I smoked and made out with a man. Forgive me Kylie, for I have sinned.

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018?
Start working out, which I have stopped since 2014. Those mermaid lines need sharpening.

What was the best thing that happened to you in 2017? Getting our bunny, getting far more responsibility at work, a friend of mine coming back from Guernsey to work with us.

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017? Erm...nothing major. I guess this year i finally realised how little my dad cares about me and my brothers but it hasn't majorly bothered me.

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)? Reading that westlife may reform :disco:

    Your favourite Moopy poster(s) 2017
    Lolly / Ag

What was your greatest achievement in 2017? Keeping my rabbit and cat alive :) And getting more responsibility at work.

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things) Work together with my head nurse to make our practice the best it can be.
Go on lots of holidays. Remain healthy and happy.

What took you by surprise this year? The fact that some of my friends don't like David Attenborough . Oh and finding out a few things about my younger brother which shocked me.

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016? About the same. I have a relatively simple life. I love my job/friends/family/home/Mandy/social life. I live cheaply but happily.

Do you have more money this year than you did last year? Probably a bit more because my mum gave me some but i don't live extravagantly.

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life? Watched a James Bond movie. Visited different places abroad and in the UK.

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018?
    Maybe gossip less. Bitch less.

You know what, I've actually looked into this before! Someone recommended the headspace app and I had a go. I need to go back to it I think. I think the reason it's bothering me right now is because I'm up a good few times in the night, and having to resettle my mind each time to sleep rather than think about things. Like last night I was up at 2:30am for a feed, took me ages to settle back and then 4:30am was up for another feed. So it feels like I haven't slept!

Oh just how badly he treated his ex. She's lovely and they were together for years but it seems like he was pretty vile to her.

Didn't I post about the headspace app before? I've certainly used it. There's a good one called Calm as well.

The thing is I think you need to use them regularly. Not necessarily all the time, but pretty regularly. Particularly when you think you don't NEED to. A lot of it I think is kind of rewiring your brain.

    Relationship status - Married, bizarrely

Rate 2017 out of 10 - god this is already difficult. It should be 9 or 10 but good comes with bad. I'm a bit of a misery which effects everything so I'll say 8 as I've felt shitty about a lot, even some good things because there's been crap attached to them. Some of that is a reflection on me, some is just fact. But it would be selfish to say less than 8.

What was the best thing that happened to you in 2017? The fact we were able to cobble together the most basic of deposits to apply for a mortgage and actually be approved. Then get a house. That has caused all levels of other shit but I can't not be grateful.

What was the worst thing that happened to you in 2017? I suppose this would be setting my mum up on her own and hoping she'd be okay. She has lived with us for 4 years after losing her husband and has never lived alone in her life. For multiple reasons the time had come, but I have been FRAUGHT with worry ever since - especially as we are now several towns away which was not part of the plan. She is in our life in some way almost every single day and visits frequently but I know she finds it tough. There's too much to explain about the whole thing but let's just say my only wish is we had enough money for a place big enough for us all while still retaining our own space

What was your favourite music related thing in 2017 (song/album/artist type thing)? STEPS

Your favourite Moopy poster(s) 2017 - It's like Slave or someone said, it's more that it's nice to see lots of old faces (and some newer but sadly rare it seems) keeping the place going. But praise should go to a lot of the topic starters actually trying to generate interest whilst keeping in the evolving moopy style. So Ag, VoR - even Jark.

What was your greatest achievement in 2017? The mortgage thing I guess. Marriage but is that an achievement? I suppose in a sense. And finishing the Brighton marathon for a second year running at just under 4 hours - I've never felt so exhilirated by an event or possibly by anything ever.

What would you like to achieve in 2018? (can be one or many things) A NEW FUCKING JOB. And save more cash, make our house more liveable and less likely to self destruct, be more frugal, drink less (yes it has to happen), keep up the running/general fitness since I won't be training for a race this year, be more tolerant and less bitter about my own past etc, work at marriage, oh it would go on and on.

What took you by surprise this year? Again, the mortgage. How quickly things changed in our lives (not all for the better but hopefully long term). Also it's not a surprise but the realization I'm so scared of change/new things/generally a nervous wreck is, I hope, going to give me a wake up call that only my own negativity and frequent self hatred stops me being happy. Yeah, it's self help by numbers. But it's true and I basically I need to stop worrying and MAN UP.

Were you happier at the end of 2017 than you were at the end of 2016? Like the rating it's difficult. As of right now I think it's the same because so much is up in the air/new. I'm optmistic that I will be happier.

Do you have more money this year than you did last year? Yes, in a sense.

Was there anything you did this year for the first time in your life? And again, marriage/house buying. Also I joked about it before but deciding to give up alcohol for a month in summer was a big step and I was pleased I did it.

Do you have any habits you want to change, cultivate or get rid of in 2018?
Drink less. Stop putting pressure on myself. Etc etc. Be kinder to one's self and that kind of crap. I truly intend to try this time.
