    Well, where ARE we all?

I've been BRUSHING up on tactics in the strategy guide, just so I don't piss up my licence board wasting my time.

I think Vaan will be my 'tank', the pirate guy will be my damage dealer, and the bunny girl .. will be something else. The guide is hinting that the other two main girls (Penelo and someone else) will be the best magicians.

Tanks are supposed to be heavily defensive and draw fire from the enemies while your damage dealers get cracking with the HACKING. There's ALL sorts of status effects that could be useful apparently

I have Balthier & Basche as tanks. Penelo & Fran as Black Mages and Ashe & Vaan as everything and anything.
I am a bit worried that i've fucked up the liscence board as i'm having a lot of trouble keeping my characters alive at the moment. Which can't be a good thing as i've spent a fair amount of time leveling up.
I'm currently about to go into a jungle after going to paedo village and having Lamount (Larsa) joining me as a guest for the second time.

It's still too early for me to have made any real in roads into the licence board. Right now, I'm setting everyone up with basic armour, accessories & white magic, with the odd bit of offensive abilities thrown in. I just gave Balthier a big stick (rod?) I found in the mines which is very powerful - much better than the rubbish old gun he had before.

I've got him wacking everything he sees whilst Fran dashes in with a 'steal' gambit before the creature is dead. I'm ending up with loads of items to sell in the towns which means I've been able to buy all the magic available so far plus extra armour and gambit abilities.

    Woo :D

yay you! I think I was too KEEN. I've only JUST got a party, so I should only be thinking about licences now really.

I want these Gold armlets I read about, double licence points!

The sphere grid was never this complicated :(

You do have to think and plan quite a bit, tis true. I initially kept getting licenses for things I hadn't been able to buy yet. I'ved learned THAT lesson the hard way... :daf:

Gold armlets you say... double licence points...?!?

I think it's fair to say that the licence board is not especially easy for beginners .. maybe it's just that you aren't really led through which characters do what. I mean with something like FFX's cast, it was pretty obvious, Yuna was the healer, Lulu was the witch, and the others were the muscle.

I just want my guide to say DO THIS :D

oh dont ask where the gold armlets come from, it could be a million hours later for all I know!

I'm waiting till I get the full party (they keep on LEAVING ) before making specific choices on how to move on the licence board. That way I can compare their basic stats & what not.

I'm keeping it as generic as I can right now but it's not that easy....

Did you guys pick all this up just from playing the game? Or do you ALL have strategy guides?

Well, if you want the inside SCOOP..

the Yuna lookalike and Penelo develop best on the magic side, Vaan should be alright for a tank ... that new guy I just got is supposed to be not so good as a tank, so i guess he should be a damage dealer.

It's so complicated just USING things. I guess it's good you can choose which skills to learn, but they dont make it very clear what's going on. I didn't know i had to BUY magic as well as get the licence, but just a one-off fee, right?

MOST UNGOOD. I want Water magic when i meet this fire dog monster :(

I'm doing it without a guide as I want to be surprised. However, so far I've missed out on village paedos and psycho bunnies so I'm not doing too well.

Diddy's got the guide. I'm remaining virtuous - but will be badgering him for tips & hints every step of the way :D

Yeah, magic is a one off purchase.

Added some extra gambit slots last night from the licence board which was a bit of a waste as each character only uses two right now as I haven't got enough conditions yet. Having said that, I did buy a ton of new ones in a town somewhere north of Rabanastre last night so will have to fiddle with them tonight.

I know, I know... Yuna girl looks like a white mage so I've got her pegged for that. Penelo's got that Rikku like quality which makes me think thief & support character... hmmm.

What about Fran - is she hard enough to be a damage dealer or should she be lurking at the back somewhere. She's got a cool silver bow at the mo which means she stays out of trouble mostly, only casting heal occasionally.

maybe you should think about making her a magician SLASH warrior. Long range weapons are good if you need someone at the back healing people. UP TO YOU

My nephew always trains his up really weird, i think his Yuna was a kickass warrior. JUST SEEMS SO WRONG!

oh i'm not getting used to these benign creatures. The rabbits I could accept as no threat, and at a push, the same for the paedo in the desert.

How do you tell again? I know it's green if they aren't going to attack you, but it's there some colour code for checking if the baddies are doublehard bastards who will tear you a new arsehole?

I've got a gold sheild, and a few gold armour thingies. I bought them from the bazaar. Are they them?

I did a lot of that, then stopped as I realised I should onlu be buying the liscences for things I need. But now i'm too far behind and i'm buying swords but not knowing where they are on the liscence board so nobody can use them.
This is great. When you get Ashe for the first time she is loaded with liscence points for you to do whatever you want with her. Then later the same with Penelo, but she has far more!
No, I don't like using guides my first time through. I think it spoils the fun slightly. But I do go on gamefaqs if I get really stuck.
I still only really use about 4 gambit slots. Most of my characters have Ally HP <70% cast cure. Then they either have a magic cast and then attack or just attack depending on who they are. I haven't bothered with status effects and any of that. If I need it doing I just do it myself.

Im pretty sure it was a gold armlet .. i assume they would've mentioned it if the other gold doodads did it. I'll look up where to find them after work.

If you want, my guide has a licence board map, so I can (attempt to) try and tell you where you should be aiming for if you want to use a particular weapon. Just tell me which ones you HAVE unlocked and I can give directions from there.

There's some dead clever gambit combos you can use :D *excite*. I think i'll be spending a lot of points in that Augment section of the licence board!

Gambit recommendations sounds good! Apparently, you can get away with winging it at the start but to get the tough optional bosses you need to use those gambits in a clever way.

I'm trying to make money so am saving up for the Poach technick. That way I can do a "Enemy HP:Critial then Poach" gambit for lots of MOOLAH. I hope...

Oh actually I lie. I think i've got Balthier to go right into them. Telekenesis is the only one thats vaguely interesting.
I wish once you get Libra it would be automatic. Luckily Ashe has a sheild which makes it automatic at the moment. But its rather annoying having to cast it every time you need some info.

OK following up on some of these things:

Golden AMULET is the one you need for 2X Licence points
You can get them from shops in Mt Bur-Omisace, Mosphoran Highwaste, Lowtown (and others it seems), as well as the bazaar.

To get it from the bazaar, you need to sell a "tattered garment", which you can get from Scythe Mantis (Zertinan caverns) and Biding Mantis (Goldmore Jungle). So you need six tattered garments to kit everyone out with one.

There's a bunch of other places you can get them apparently (The Shred, Phase 1 Dig, North Liavell Hills), a reward for the Dalmascan Patient subquest, and a reward for killing Enkelados the mark.

PHEW. OH and you need the Accessories 8 licence, which is 1 right and 3 up from Accessories 1, and costs 45LP.

POACH, i think you might know most of this already, but you use it on an HP critical enemy. If it works you kill it and get an item (high chance it's common, low chance it's rare) but you get NO LP, EXP, GIL, CLAN POINTS, or anything else. So don't bother unless you are after something in particular from a baddie.

Oh, and I have Libra because i'm wearing a BANGLE. Whether or not it makes me walk like an Egyptian is another MATTER.

I DEMAND POSITIVE LOVE for my services to geeks these last few days :D. I'm sliding down the moopy rep rankings :(

Well I played it all day on the day it came out. Probably for about 8 hours straight! Then i've been playing about an hour every other day since.
I have done more than enough levelling up! I spent 2 hours last night just levelling up again and again. I must be doing something wrong.
    A gate crystal?
