Nearly finished. Only have the Bahamut left. The fight in the tower was actually GOOD STUFF.

I've started it a year ago, lost interest and got back to it a week ago.

So anyway, I'm in some place called The Feywood. Holy cunt if all the things in here don't keep nailing me something chronic.
I've been used to walking around near impervious for some time now, then all of a sudden evil tomato's, big stone like flappy birds.... all really beating the fuck out of me.
Ended up in the Henne Mines Phase 2, two bats in there killed all my people in one hit. Nasty, but managed to get away.
Oh and no map doesn't help much! Having Ally KO would be useful but no.
Especially with Larna or whatever his name is, on a constant die-a-thon.

Is the Feywood that trippy place with the snow?

I only remember running through this snowfield and seeing weird curvy reflections of yourself coming towards you

It was quite nice to see that after getting through the Feywood, the next section was full of things that were indeed very killable by me. Two marks done too, the Trickster and some Feral Wolf. The Trickster was a PAIN IN THE ARSE, mainly due to the presence of an Elemental pissing about. In fact, the bloke from the clan helping me got nailed. Did it in the end though... basically 2 x Quickenings.

I feel a bit cheaty using them.

So anyway, in another Raithwell-y tomb style place and am really near the end (had to go save this morning, work and all)... but I'm starting to feel the game a bit more.

I've picked up the thread of the story a bit more and enjoyed some lengthy bit which involve the nasty bloke assassinating his father. Vayne is it?

Find it quite bizarre that for now, Vaan is a bit of an afterthought, Ashe is the main focus of the story.

I'm hoping that FF13 sees the return of 'specialist' characters. I rather liked it when FF9 re-introduced the job class style of play. I find that everyone ends up the same otherwise, but merely with a different skin.

I went back for a week and left it again. I keep forgetting the game mechanics...

I think I left off having done a few marks, picked up a few optional Espers and done a few sidequests. Levels are decent but some of the more powerful Espers are still beyond me. I've given up on the Hunt Club completely - what a load of NONSENSE. Back to the story tonight.

Agreed. That's what I really like about Final Fantasy Tactics (BEST GAME EVAH!), the sense that all the characters are quite distinct. You also got that feel very nicely with FFX-2, which I still maintain is thoroughly underrated :shy: :D

I've only got one esper! Finding this a bit concerning.
Remember I don't use guides to play the game either...

I remember there was some Sandstormy area near Rabanastre which screws your radar up and forces you away. I might go back there to check it out.

I've got a few level 5 marks on, but I'm trying not to attempt them until I get some more licences. I really need to get ones that deal with remedying status/KO etc.

Oh, when I meant job, I didn't mean as drastic as the Tactics ones, but heading towards FF9 and 10's set roles. You know, white mage, knight, thief, etc etc. I liked they way that everyone had their set fortes and developed down those paths.

FFX-2 had a wonderful battle and levelling system but a woeful story and game structure. Plus the 'new' elements added to the game were awful, I hated tromping around the same locations again and again, especially since I'd pounded them so much in X when trying to get the monster arena populated.

I really want a £2 copy off FFX to pop up on THE BAY sometime. I'd give it a go again!

Aw, I love a good job system :( But the character archetypes worked pretty well in IX - I really must play that one again some time, I absolutely loved it at the time.

I don't think I'd ever play X again - I really didn't enjoy it much - the setting, the story, the characters... I didn't find any of it particularly appealing. It's also one of the most horrible PAL conversions ever. Squashed characters, glacial speed... Getting Tidus' ultimate weapon (or whatever they're called) was pretty much nigh on impossible for us lucky Europeans. I almost burst a blood vessel with that chocobo racing.

well really. I just read that you don't have to have Ally = KO or Ally = Poison in your gambits... you can just have them set to Ally Any and they will use as appropriate.

Quite the purpose of having specific Gambits, I don't know, unless its for purely targetting certain afflictions with items. I'm going to reset all my gambits tonight into something a bit more cunning.

The Ally=Any gambits work fine until you get pummelled by baddies with multiple status attacks. That's when you want/need to get specific with your curing.

    When I sold my PS2.

Which I then went and grabbed a slim one, and then upgraded to PS3.

    So this can be allowed!

    YAY :D

Widge: You think FFX-2's story is boring compared to the Phantom Menace-esque political 'thriller'?

Up until the end of Chapter 3 (when I canned it), there was no story. Just nothing at all.

At least Phantom Menace had lightsabers

I actually LOVE FFX-2 up until Chapter 3. The Spherowhatstheirname SHIT in Season 4 completely KILLED it for me.

The Garment Grid system while horribly named :zombie: was wonderful. Reminded me quite a bit of FF5's Job System which I love. Before FFXII, FFX and FFX-2 had the best combat systems which was even more remarkable because they were complete opposites of each other. I loved the thoughtful tactical turn based nature of X and the frantic all guns blazing approach of X-2.

I got in the zone with the lightning quite easily so it wasn't a chore. The chocobos on the other hand were UNFUCKINGCONTROLLABLE

I also remember farting around with catching butterflies being immensely irritating but I can't even remember what that bit was FOR now.

I'm starting to spam this thread now. :D As much as I love Nobuo Uematsu I do love alot of the music from FFX-2, and some of the Piano Collections of them are just glorius. Shame about the FFXII music. :( The music in the FFXIII trailer sounds good though.

    Yeah, he's back for XIII

But I agree, XII was a big letdown music-wise.

The FFXII music is lovely. I play in Pro Logic II and they've put alot of work making the score come at you in full surround. Really well done, totally encompassing.

    Help with Nabudis Medallion Hunt

Anybody completed the Nabudis Medallion Hunt? I need help please. I've already completed FFXII but thought I'd go back and finish some of the side quests, one of which is the Nabudis Medallion Hunt. But there's conditions that you must fulfil before you can start. One of them is to have defeated the Orthos and obtained the Blackened Fragment. It's weird though 'cos I defeated the Orthros ages ago,but I don't seem to have the Blackened Fragment in my Key Items. I've tried searching for the Contrite Thief again in Lowtown, who was the Petitioner for the mark Orthros, but can't find him. But I did manage to find Samal, who's supposed to give you the Blackened Fragment, but he didn't offer it to me which suggests that he already did so when I defeated the Orthros a while ago. So where is it? If anybody's read this far, thanks, please help 'cos I'm going mad. (I already am mad I know.)

I did do it all, but I'm afraid I can't remember what I did. Are you sure you haven't given it to the bloke in the downtown already? That's the only thing I can think of.

No apparently it's the Bundle of Stolen Articles that you return to the Contrite Thief, and then Samal arrives and, amongst other things, hands you the Blackened Fragment. I can't understand why it's not in my Key Items though. So when I try to open and close the No. 11, No. 4 and No. 3 waterways in a certain order at Garamsythe Waterway, in order to obtain the Shiny Object, it's not there. Oh I know it all sounds complicated but isn't it really annoying when you have to carry out a load of tasks but just one thing doesn't work and you can't figure out why. Grrrrrrrrrr!

Is LOOT important? Apart from being able to trigger bazaar goods? There is no point to hanging onto it is there?

I mean why can you buy gyshal greens from the clan provisioner?

Is the black doodah loot, and thereby accidentally sold?
