Featuring the voice talents of Beyoncé. The trailer has just dropped:

If this is even HALF as good as the live-action Jungle Book, I’ll be pleased. It looks like they’re sticking fairly close to the original, keeping all of the songs and getting James Earl Jones back as Mufasa.

Between this, Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2, I am already slayed by Disney next year.

    Jungle Book was so good.

    I'm excited.

Didn't move me I must admit.

It's basically shot for shot the opening of the original and given it's not really live-action I don't see the point really?

Like with Jivafox, I’m not sure what the POINT is but I am looking forward to it! Disney is in for such a big year. Also looking forward to see Toy Story and Dumbo, but not so much Frozen. I’m more excited for Secret Life of Pets 2 than Frozen.

what on Earth is Frozen 2 going to be about? talk about beating a horse to dead, My body is not ready to be attacked by whatever sequel they come up for Let It Go (and this is not gay hyperbole)

Out of all of them definitely this (with massive reservations obviously)

Frozen was ok but I'll remain forever baffled by how huge it became. It's so half baked compared to the better Disney films. If it wasn't for that song you do have to wonder.

The Lion King seems like a waste of money making time but I'm here for it anyway

I think Frozen just came at the right time for them after they'd rebuilt their brand of animated movies.

I completely fell in love with it long before Let It Go. It's hard to put my finger on exactly where it hit the mark, but somewhere around For The First Time In Forever, I started to feel that it had shades of Beauty and the Beast about it in terms of the way the musical sequence built.

I think Tangled is actually a much SMARTER movie, but it lacks the soundtrack; whilst the lantern sequence is absolutely STUNNING, I think I had to try a lot harder with the music and there was nothing that would ever really stand up in its own right.

Anyway, I think the hype for The Lion King will be INSANE. Toy Story 4 comes out exactly one month before, so there's already going to be a crazy amount of promotion (and it absolutely wouldn't surprise me if they drop the entire Circle Of Life sequence into the adverts before, like they did with the original). They'll absolutely sell this one on nostalgia value in the same way they did Beauty and the Beast.

I can't see anything wrong with a stylish, well made update of the original. This looks great! Can't wait!

I kept reading this was a "real-life version" of The Lion King and all along I thought they were going to do something like the musical :D:shy:

I guess there’s a bubble l, but are they going to make live action versions of all the big Disney movies as rapid fire as this? Dumbo, Lion King and Aladdin all in the same year? What’s next?

I guess Little Mermaid next? And Mulan if they want some Chinese money?

Mulan is already in development. As is Lady and the Tramp - although that’s going straight to their streaming service.

They're clearly going to keep doing them until they start flopping, which Dumbo appears to be, so with any luck that will cool their enthusiasm as least a bit.

Where did all this start then? Jungle Book?

I feel like Beauty and the Beast was a much bigger deal than the other ones

I guess it started with Malificent - but the major criticsm levelled at that one was the story wasn't very good. So I guess from there it made sense to align remakes closer and closer to the original plots until they were almost shot-for-shot remakes.

Lord, have Disney ever released so many movies in one yet?

And that’s before we get to Marvel and Star wars

No, but then they’ve never owned as many studios as they do now.

A lot of the live-action ones they seem happier to have a less consistent style, which I guess accounts for the number of them.

Getting decidedly mixed reviews so far. Apparently the visuals are amazing, but also incredibly boring.

This side by side of Hakuna Matata would appear to illustrate the problem :bruised:

That’s the big thing for me about this. Photo realistic animals can’t ACT. There’s nothing inherently fun about a lion for me.

This is going to just be a movie on Apu and Iago isn’t it..?

I’m not sure personality powerhouse Beyoncé is going to change that much

I watched a clip and it looks awful, like they pasted dialogue over a wonky Nat Geo documentary.

Not to overly shit on it before I've actually seen it, but Beyonce's new song for the soundtrack is boring as shit.

It’s funny that it looks like it’ll be the exact opposite issue with Aladdin - hiring dancers who look good but aren’t vocally as strong as the theatre queens they could use for an animated feature.

Here we HAVE the animated feature, and the voices, but animated in a way that’s too removed from the cartoony way (and action) of the original.

If they fuck up Just Can’t Wait To Be King, it’ll be over... that and Hakuna Matata are the big colourful moments (the others are ballads played straight, so no problem)

Yes! Had a listen to the soundtrack this morning. It’s mostly exactly the same apart from Be Prepared which doesn’t even seem to be a song any more.

The soundtrack isn’t great is it? The original songs are brilliant but this pales in comparison.

The Beyonce track isn’t great and the Elton track feels like it was out of his archives

This will be deeply unpopular, but the original film bored me almost to the point of tears. This one looks even worse.
