I love the blend of melancholy *and* torrential fury:

    I hope you're HAPPY, wherever you are-hoaaaaaah
I wan'ed you to KNOW THAT

Hard to tell if she's sniping or sniffling, or both frankly.

She was scarily like a really pretty Disney horse in a wig, but I couldn't fault the look (okay, the wig was more floppy than some of her 70s output, but it was still fine). The 90s Loraine Kelly jacket was the finishing touch.

My favourite moment was the face she made when showing off her impeccable pop culture knowledge as she made a Father Ted remark.

Poor Jen Saunders. Loved icy (as in Wrigley's ice fresh) Mish when Graham brought up the mint story that was quite deliciously awkward.

That really is an accurate description of her.

Poor Michelle, needing to be reminded that she was in Hairspray, her highest profile role for a decade. She and Jennifer Saunders are only a few months apart in age.

I'm watching now. I love that Cher was LATE so just arrives halfway through and takes over. Poor MISH died of superfluity at that point.

Oh, and those vocals were on-point. Another wonderful, classy performance from the Goddess of Pop.

I can imagine the discussions betwen Cher and Bobby D's managers and the show's producers on who gets top billing. Giving Bobby D all the build up at the start, only to have to shuffle down the sofa when Cher made her entrance must have seemed a fair compromise.

I loved that too. I was annoyed that DE NERO was getting top billing at first but then CHAIR walks on and well, shoves him right down the CHAIR

The show would have been much better with Cher and Saunders, they have a good repore. MISH and De Nero were not really feeling any of it.

It was also fabulous to see that Cher's face was still considerably more ANIMATED than MISH'S :D

Is it too soon to call it a sleeper hit?

I didn't expect her to get in the top 75 with any singles from this album so I'm calling it a HIT!

It would be good if she could keep this afloat with Alan Carr, Strictly and Jonathan Ross for three more weeks. And then finally a video in January.

She's gone home now, hasn't she? Which means there won't be any promo over here anymore, unfortunately.

I do think it's done brilliantly well though- it's an actual hit, albeit a minor one, rather than just a fanbase fuelled chart entry that collapses. It's back to #30 now- how far had it fallen? Will she stay top 40 this week?

Seeing that the album has gone top 5, I do think there is a chance she will be back over here for some more promo before Christmas. I'd love to see her on Strictly and a few other shows.

I meant NOW...to keep the single afloat.

It wouldn't surprise me to come back if they throw another single out (which they should, albeit that I can't see it doing anything)

Yeah she's definitely done here for this single, but with all the good will around her at the moment, it would be good for her to come back and promote the album for Christmas sales, even though she probably won't get another hit single from it.

From the New Year she'll probably go into rehearsals for the TOUR. I am getting worried about UK dates not being announced now.

Is there another single that will particularly help sell the album on it, even if unlikely to be a hit in its own right?

In terms of "catchy song"- there's loads. But because this is Cher in 2013, she's going to struggle to get anything really, beyond this initial rush of goodwill. But yes, perhaps "My Love", or if they want another ballad, then "Sirens" possibly...

I can see Radio 2 playing I Walk Alone. It strikes a very good balance between contemporary and just mature enough to appeal to that audience.

    #36 this week.

Who would EVER have predicted that a Cher single in its second week in 2013 would still be charting higher than the PEAK of the last Madonna lead single? :D

I don't know - both are spent forces commercially. Cher really promoted, and had the better song, so it's not that surprising.

Take It Like A Man is the next single? Wikipedia says so anyway, but I don't have the energy to fish it out her twitter feed. Great choice, it has the biggest and most hefty chorus for the masses to grab onto out of the dance songs. It's impossibly slick: I like the pulsating slow-down of the middle-8, but there's not a gasp gone to waste on it.

Take It Like A Man is a bit BASIC for me.

But nothing is going to do anything so it's sort of moot really.

Her granny gravel as she delivers the line "but we rise again to FACE THE TRUTH" is something else, and from that moment on it slips into a disco coma with all that "on and on" huffing and puffing.

I shouldn't get so excited though, I've yet to get the 411 on it from my mum of course.

Next week, Cher is a guest judge on Dancing With the Stars, she's standing in for Len Goodman as he takes a break.

Putting people down on live TV was her 70s meal ticket (not that she ate), so I'd say so yes.

I'm glad it's just as a guest judge, this sort of thing is so beneath her. The 2 songs are all I care about.

I'd say a darn sight more than Emma "FUCKING" Bunton did on "Dancing On Ice"...
