Very nice indeed. And note to Isis: That is how to belt out a glory note.

    Essay question

Would Isis Gee have finished better than DEAD LAST had she not been orange/had that repulsive barbie doll blonde hair? Discuss.

I genuinely think 'For Life' is a lovely song. It's one of my most played 2008 songs these days. It's just her terrible pronunciation (Bizarre as she is an English speaker AND she wrote the song!) and the fact that she absolutely murdered it on the night. And, yes, she looked absolutely dreadful.

I agree with the tag - why are most of the posts about the 2008 mediocre entry?

Isis Gee brought shame to American entries in Eurovision. Katrina Leskanich must have hung down her head in shame to behold Isis' orange plasticity in all its "glory". I'm hoping Oscar Loya is slightly less orange in this year's finals so we yanks don't start to get a bad (worse) reputation.

To the point, this is a lovely entry and nice performance, but the melody is not that compelling to me. Definitely worth the eight points I awarded, but would have got more if it were a bit more immediate.

one of the first entries i really loved, even though it was several years after the 1994 competition that I heard it. I own all of her albums, strangely

yes, there's a great song she did called "The Story So Far", which I'm surprised hasn't been covered by some more successful Western act.

All I can find on youtube is a slight mix of the song, the original is a little slower:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zDLsAqmogTs&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zDLsAqmogTs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

She also recorded the original version of "Perfect Moment" , covered by Martine McCutcheon. It sounds pretty much the same but, err, more original

oh here's the Polish version of "The Story So Far" , which gives you an idea of what I meant by the song being slightly slower in it's original English form:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8NqeIEuw5Ys&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8NqeIEuw5Ys&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

In many ways Edyta was a pioneer of late 90s UK chart music

Please leave the Mighty Isis alone

I did think it would do so much better, but her orangeness and horse teeth were akin to fellow semi-final savee Charlotte's hairline and surgery (to the viewers) :(

Not that I am in anyway comparing the two actual performances (just the character visuals)

I demand we start having polls about entries nobody likes.

When it comes to this one, in 1994 terms it stood out, among the turgid ballads the class of it shines through, in a fairer world she would have been fighting it out with MeKaDo for the win.

However I can only give it a 7.

I kind of did the same with 'Niin Kaunis Onn Taivas', then realised that I really like it.

I wouldn't go THAT far (that would be 'Hullu Yo') but definitely in my top 3.

And I like quite a few Finnish entries.

Edyta's version of One & One is my revelation of this week. I played it at least eight times today walking to and from work.

I love the Robert Miles' version but it is nice to hear it being sung by someone who doesn't sound like she's suffering from severe ashthma.

By far Poland's best moment! I can honestly say this is the only Polish entry I have liked.

This so deserved to win over those two boring tossers from Ireland. That said, I'd have been happy if Germany or Hungary had won aswell. :)

I was speaking to my housemate's Polish girlfriend yesterday and I asked if she knew (of) Edyta. Apparently she was hugely popular until she sang the Polish national anthem at some sporting event and murdered it, and since then everyone hates her.

She would easily have won if she sang in English.

I wonder how well this would do in a modern Eurovision.

I love her but she is nothing compared to the AWESOMENESS that is Kasia Kowalska.
