I said I'd organise the next few of these while @octophone's away so here we are. I've started a new thread so I can keep a list in the first post and edit as we go on. The other thread is here.

Generally speaking, it's "classics" on a Tuesday and "chilled" on a Sunday so we'll stick to that. If there doesn't seem to be enough interest I propose we drop the Tuesday listen, but let's see how the next couple of weeks go.

There is also a "flops" listen in the Pop Toilet on Wednesdays. Just sticking that here in case people who (understandably) avoid the Pop Toilet didn't know about it.

I've stuck JLP on for tonight as it was the first one that came to my mind before having got myself organised. In the other thread Octy said she'd planned Massive Attack to be the next Sunday one, so I've stuck that in. The next few days are empty for now.

    Upcoming Tuesday "classics" listens
    • 23/6 - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
    • 29/6 - Pet Shop Boys - Actually
    • 7/7 - Shania Twain - Come On Over
    • 14/7 - Bloc Party - Weekend in the City
    • 21/7 - Róisín Murphy - Overpowered
    • End of July - **Lolly's Big Gay Disco Party** :disco: :disco:

    Upcoming Sunday "chilled" listens
    • 28/6 - Massive Attack - Protection
    • 5/7 - Sinead O'Connor - Universal Mother
    • 12/7 - Goldfrapp - Black Cherry
    • 19/7 -
    • 26/7 -
    Upcoming 'Extras'

**/07 - Pre Spicevision Special - Spice Girls - Spiceworld

    Suggested albums (Tuesday)
    • Erasure - Chorus
    • Prince - Purple Rain
    • The Corrs - Talk On Corners
    • Blondie - Eat to the Beat or Autoamerican
    • Janet Jackson - Control
    • Madonna - Confessions on a Dancefloor
    • Christina Aguilera - Back to Basics
    • Tori Amos - From The Choirgirl Hotel
    • Kate Bush - The Dreaming
    • Diana Ross - Diana (1980)
    • Donna Summer - Once Upon A Time
    • Faithless - Reverence
    • Ace of Base - Happy Nation (US Version)

    Suggested albums (Sunday)

    • The Knife - Silent Shout
    • Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
    • Dido - No Angel
    • Kylie Minogue - KM94
    • kd lang - Ingénue
    • Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence

Suggested albums (Need help to classify!)

    • Lena Philipsson - Det gör ont en stund på natten men inget på dan
    • Mylene Farmer - L'autre or Anamorphoseé

Suggestions - GO! These can be to add the lists, to move the lists around, suggest alternatives, or anything that's been suggested that I might have missed.

I'll add any (serious) suggestions to the lists and try to keep them updated by removing any that don't seem to have much support.

Susanne Sundfør's Ten Love Songs unfortunately isn't available in its entirety on Spotify, so I think that needs to come off until it is.

I'd say kd lang's Ingénue probably sits as a Sunday listen rather than a Tuesday one.

If 'State of Mind' isn't for the flop listens thread, then I don't know what it's for.

I would have assumed that Lana del Ray would be a Sunday listen, but I haven't actually heard it so I guess it could be wall to wall bangers.

I've had an idea of another Album Sync thing that I'd quite like to do, prompted by @Ag 's post in the Vera Lynn DEAD thread. However, I'm not sure how much interest there will be, and this seems to be the obvious place to sound it out.

I'd like to do a series of them focusing on GAY ICONS of yesteryear. I think most of us are familiar with the big singles by people like Dusty, Sandie, Shirley, Dionne, Petula, Babs etc etc (hoping we wouldn't need to scrape as low as Cilla), but personally other than Dusty, I have no real idea of any of their studio albums, and I think that most people are probably the same. Not sure if I'd go as far as Donna or Diana, because I think their back catalogue is much better known here, and they probably could go into the main schedule.

As I said, I'm not sure what level of interest there would be, and if there is sufficient I don't know if best to do it as a separate stream, or to include them in the main schedule, as it looks like we are going to be having potentially three a week already.

To that end, I think I'd like to add Diana Ross - Diana (1980) and Donna Summer - Once Upon A Time to the Tuesday night schedule, please.

Maybe we can do Spiceworld around the time of Moopyvision Karaoke? (You're welcome @COB)

Tori Amos - from the choirgirl hotel

    Kate Bush - The Dreaming

    I guess for Tuesdays?

This is EXACTLY WHY I am making an effort to take part in the sync listens whenever it's an album/act that I am remotely interested in.

I think the Spiceworld around the time of Cobvision is a great idea! Maybe even directly before as it's only a short album.

Added the other two suggestions. I think as we've had two Kate's we should leave The Dreaming for a bit. I'd quite like to see the relistens become a bit eclectic.

    Added!

And I think your other idea is great and I'd be interested! Maybe it could be a one-off evening of 'Lolly's Big Gay Anthems' or something where throw in some "I'm Coming Out's" and "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" alongside some deeper cuts some of us won't know so well.

Well I was just thinking of studio albums in the usual format. But yes, perhaps a two hour at most Spotify playlist might be an idea? That would give us enough time to throw in the big hits, but also those deep cuts. There are a few I can think of immediately, but give me a few weeks and I'll discover some more :disco:

Perhaps schedule it in for mid July. That should give me a fair bit of time to come up with a playlist of 25 - 30 ish tracks. As songs tended to be shorter back then, that should be long enough to get a good mix in, without being too long for people to bear.

How about a sync watch of Spiceworld THE MOVIE? It's on YouTube and nobody seems to care to copyright strike it :basil:

I've moved next Tuesdays to Monday to not clash with Moopyvision. Was thinking we could do it before, but that's right at dinner time.

It's probably going to be a bit more sedate than you imagine.

I've decided I'm going to take it through to early/mid seventies - essentially up to the dawn of disco. That's largely because I think that's when a lot of us become more familiar with the women and music of that age, and I wanted this to be more a voyage of discovery.

I have added Bloc Party and Faithless to the Tuesday list, and I've randomly picked one for next Sunday.

Keep the suggestions and comments coming!

I'm struggling with editing at the moment. I mean i know You Must Never Do A Tango With An Eskimo by Alma Cogan is hardly essential listening, but I badly want it in there.

You did a 'listening to every #1 ever', didn't you? No doubt you'll remember that a lot of the music pre-Elvis is very ballad heavy and one note. And I think for female singers particularly it wasn't until the sixties and people like Dusty Springfield that things got a bit more lively. Alma Cogan is one of the few females of the early chart years who has a bit more life about her.

Yeah there's the odd 50s female worth giving a listen to. Doris Day, Petula Clark, Eartha Kitt and Rosemary Clooney obviously. Even Connie Francis. Anne Shelton 'Lay Down Your Arms' has merit.

60s the first female star was long forgotten Helen Shapiro.

Helen Shapiro is already on the list. Rosemary and Connie as well. Doris and Petula are planned, but i hadn't decided which tracks. For shame I hadn't considered Eartha - I don't really know her really early stuff. I'll investigate, because that's very much the purpose of this.

I've also accepted that 'gay icon' will almost certainly be stretching it for some of them - it's more a journey of female chart stars full stop. But I'm okay with that, as I'm sure Rubbish Gays existed back in the 50s and 60s as well.

Currently wondering if four different French language singers is too much.
