It gets better. There's way too much Carol Kane for my liking this series, but Titus, Mimi Kanasis and Jacqueline/Jorqueline make up for it.

Maya Angelou's episode(s) is worth it all though.

I pushed through and it starts getting good around episode 5. I agree it feels like a slog at the beginning though - it's one of those shows I have to really be in the mood for.

I actually find Carol Kane quite hard to understand - she gets given long lines and the jokes don't land because of her enunciation.

Same. Those first two episode were... hard work.

the first two episodes are great and I hope it gets better, SEASON 2 on the other hand was a chore at the beginning. what show are you watching?

must be a foreign thing then :( Mimi is so hit and miss though, her lines feel so contrived

I wasn't well on Saturday and had to cancel my plans so I just binge watched the whole series. Worked out quite well there.

I couldn't get past the first quarter of episode one. It always take a while to get into this.

I'm finding Season 1 a struggle at times but am only up to the sixth episode! The flashes of brilliance are just so so good and dark and FUNNY that I'm sticking with it for now. I can't escape the fact that I do find Kimmy herself a real irritant which is clearly not helping things. Jane Krakowski is just DIVINE however. I suspect the fact that she has been missing for the past two episodes has not helped things.

Keep watching, it does get better, and season 2 is better. But yes most of the humor is too childish and Kimmy (and her Chinese bf) is the biggest irritant.

Dong is going to be a feature?! I just watched 80s rom com "Sixteen Candles" with my niece last week and that also features a "comedy" character called Dong (Long Duk Dong in this instance, OH HOW WE LAUGHED :manson: :zombie:). He does throw it back to Kimmy in the show though which I suppose is the get out clause.

Dionne Warwick alone was enough to make this series a winner. The solid hit rate of gags was just window dressing.

The Dionne Warwick is fucking sensational. I can't believe it's happened. Best pop star impression since Tina Turner on Psychoville.

3 episodes in and I'm still enjoying it, but it's the Russ character I really struggle with. I love David Cross in other things (well, Arrested Development) but I just don't find him funny at all in this. Just gross and boring.

I'm almost done with the season, I like it but I don't love it. For me all the pieces never quite fit in together (Kimmy and Titus are on a show that is different from Jaqueline and Carole Kane is doing her thing on another show).

I also physically cringe whenever Jaqueline's "heritage" is brought up.

I think my biggest laugh so far was Kimmy ghosting the guy at the library.

I still love it, BUT I do think it was a mistake to move from 25 min episodes in season 1 to 30 min plus eps this year and last. The whole of that first run felt so much tighter and episodes just zipped by.

Loads of highlights for me this year, including the Dionne Warwick ep (obv), plus the Rachel Dratch one, Titus' boobs song, and pretty much anything with Titus and Jacqueline in fact.

There's so much that I don't like about it. It is a SLOG. And Titus carries the whole thing.

It still has some killer lines ("She's trans-ghost" killed me) but yeah this season has lost something for me. I just don't think they've identified an interesting story to tie this season together, compared to the stuff with Kimmy's PTSD and her mother last year.

    Also, not enough Mimi Kanasis.

I don't get why she started school and then it's never mentioned again for about 3 episodes; how the HELL does she have so much free time or did I miss something?

It's also kinda sad Kimmy went from being the main character to a supporting one, this is basically the Titus/Jacqueline/Lillian show. They really have the strongest storylines (and the best zingers) that carry the whole show.

I like Lillian, but I definitely think she's best employed sparingly. Giving her her own (largely boring and repetitive) plot lines in the past two seasons hasn't really worked. She only really pops for me as a foil for Titus. On her own, or paired with Jacqueline as she has been a fair bit this season, she just isn't as funny.

"My HAIR is a cape" is still one of my favourite lines from the show.

My fave line so far is the sex worker one, Kimmy saying 'thank you for your service' to her reflection in the mirror. :D

Problem with UKS(more and more) to me is that there's just no beacon of (relative) normality like a Liz Lemon or Jack Donaghy to try and glue all the Jennas, Tracys, Kimmys, Lilians and Tituses together. It's just wall to wall madness and way out there plots/characters and the punchlines just haven't been strong enough since season one for it to hold up that well.

I thought Lilian's new BF, Russ and Xanthippe (which as much as I loved her in Season 1 is TERRIBLE in this, poor girl) were supposed to be the "straight characters".

Just started watching this and it's insanely binge-worthy.

Best line so far: "I'm like a lollipop with a question mark on the wrapper. I don't know WHAT'S going on inside". Ugh, bitch preach.

I don't think Kmmy Schmidt screams CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE though, perhaps they mean a NETFLIX Original Movie? :side-eye:

Perfect excuse to bring A-List actors in the mix and expensive CGI.

I never really see the point of making a film out of a TV series (apart from CASH) although Sex And The City 2 was of course INCREDIBLE

The last batch of episodes dropped at the weekend, which I have to say I very much enjoyed.

My favourite line was Lilian "where's the gimp?"

The first part uploaded late last year was such a downer, zero laughs and they seemed to last an eternity. In fact watched 4 episodes back to back this weekend.

Seems intentional they saved the best for this last batch. I just CAN'T at the Sliding Doors parody episode :disco:
