I think it's a decent vocal. Visually it's hardly voter friendly though, is it?

It’s only a live lounge ish perf isn’t it? I think onstage it’ll be better. His vocal is decent, and the BREATH!! bits are a bit less jarring.

he’s quite busty isn’t he? He’s carrying himself like a darts player

    BUSTY :D

I think I actually prefer him in a coat. He’s got the look of someone who’d want to chat about CAMRA and Nottingham Forest :(

iMO the problem here is not (just) the song, is the lack of charisma. Will go unnoticed, nobody will pick up the phone to vote for this.

People keep arguing that you don't need a star, but really you kinda DO. Sometimes if an artist has been chipping away as a session/background singer for decades, there's a REASON.

They don't need to be an established star. They just need to have the potential to be one.

Well that was what I was getting at. There's a difference between a star and a celebrity.

Nobody knew who the fuck Netta was outside Israel, but she absolutely radiated star quality (albiet for a very brief window of tolerability).

Mind you, Duncan Laurence hardly has charisma to spare.

Maybe not in the same way. But every live performance of Arcade in the lead up to Tel Aviv was really quite spine-tingling. He was clearly able to bring something to it that elevated the material.

I agree, Duncan breathed a LOT of life into the stripped down versions of "Arcade" he performed early on and it sounded like a winner straight off. Not an exciting one, maybe, but it had winner vibes.

All I get here is "one song past his welcome at the Radio 1 Live Lounge".

He actually did something with the last chorus, thank God.

I've no problem with him coming back next year, I just hope he takes notes and goes more down the Therapy route than the guitar ballad route.
