When do we find out who we are sending to Eurovision?

Although sending our Samantha on stage in tight pvc with a "Fuego" number (so an even less appealing "Touch My Fire" then) would be an attractive game changer.

Of course we´ve had worse. :D It´s just that that has been the recurring theme from about 2016 onwards. "Oh well...it could have been Electro Velvet or that Josh Lad".

Better than Lucie would be how we should go. Lucie ticked singing, not unattractive, nice song and pretty staging - we hit mid table. Sam at least loses one of those ticks.

Although Sam belting out some unashamed shlager would be quite a treat :disco:

I wish they would just get Alexandra, by kidnapping if necessary. Not that I object to Fleur but she's not exactly as vocally gifted. I can't imagine it would hurt her stage career either. A huge pop banger would be ideal but a rousing lung stretcher like "The Silence" would be just the ticket too.

In fact they should just send her with that, no one will notice.

I've always thought The Silence was the greatest Eurovision song we never sent.

Sam can obviously sing, and I maintain getting the song right is most important, but I do think she isn't the sort of act who indicates that the UK is taking the contest seriously again.

As we've said before, turning it around for the UK is going to be a process which is likely to take 4 or 5 years to reach fruition - and the frustrating thing is on the (rare) occasions it's looked like we've tried or started that process, we've gone and fucked it up immediately after.

I'm not convinced Sam Bailey is the person to turn that around.

Lucie was an example of how a credible and proven performer CAN pick up points for us. She could have easily been top 10 with a much stronger song.

I hate how they didn't build on that potential, but then I remember this the same UK who went from 5th place with the then-future Sugababe, to Josh Dubovie. Then from Blue, to Engelbert...

Those of a paranoid nature might think they didn't have a clue or simply didn't care :side-eye:

Dubovie was a symptom. Pete Waterman was the problem.

Just to be clear, I'm in no way in favour of picking Sam Bailey. It's just the level of sheer horror at her potential involvement makes it seem like the last act we sent was Kylie :D

I think if it was/is her, just by default she'd probably be in the top half of all our entries from the last decade. You know it'd be a safe but serviceable number that she could probably deliver...in a safe, serviceable manner. Not credible, no, but unlikely to be a disaster and with the potential for better.

We 100% should be aiming higher though, not necessarily in terms of names, but just with a full package of song/performer/staging and I hope the BBC surprise us.

I just don’t think Sam Bailey really fits the brief that BMG were given. Tour de force Fleur however... :disco:

Anyway can’t we just get someone from the Masked Singer?

We should send a Masked Singer, not tell anyone who they are and only take off the mask if we win.

HAZELL DEAN is the latest rumour. She tweeted that she will be announcing something tomorrow that she´s been working on with the guys from BMG.

    I KID YOU NOT. :D

Hazell’s got a reissue out on Friday, so it’ll just be something to do with that

That Hazell tweet doesn’t appear to exist either- and it’s mentioned on one account

The acts that are actually chosen very rarely drop hints on social media anyway. The BBC don’t like it.

When was the last time anyone we’ve sent had more than Susan from the office following them on twitter though?

I like the idea of probably-Nicola-Roberts dominating on a wider scale but still no one ever really knowing that it was actually someone off a Dolmio advert all along.

Is the official Fleur topic now?

    New single out today:

I take it this means she is not our entry.

I was thinking earlier, why don’t we just send AMY MACDONALD.

She can sing and write a song (This Is The Life was deeply uncool but a gr8 pop song), has lots of live performance experience and is the right side of 40. She would obviously do it if asked also.

As I said before, I think the core team that work on it have good(if not misguided) intentions.

It's just the higher ups who hold all the cards. "Oohh...we'll get Bonnie...she'll do...she still has her own teeth right???? Let's yank her out the cupboard and dust her off she'll do fine"....never mind actually being FUCKING COMPETITIVE.

It won't change.. at least whilst it's with the BBC.

I’ve said this before and I’ve said it again. All it will take is someone big(-ish) to do it in a quirky “fuck it, let’s do this for the UK” style for it all to change. The brand is so toxic in the UK, that’s easier said than done, but I genuinely could see them persuading someone like Sheeran to write a song for it.

I read a rumour that Foxes (who I fucking love) has delayed her album to consider Eurovision. Of course it’s likely to be rubbishgai about to be slayed etc speculation but who knows.
