    THIS.

They either need this, or someone like Ella Eyre or whatnot, sent with something like that 'Came Here For Love' track she did w/Sigma. I.e. an active, proper performer (though not A list), with what would be an actual charting song in its own right (not just a cheap knock off of one).

We don't need to win, just a competitive stab that can finish in a nice 9th place and then build from that as the stigma of it all goes down a bit.

The problem is that the BBC have squandered that sort of goodwill in the past. Great result for Andrew Lloyd Webber? Page Pete Waterman! Blue nearly made the top 10? Send for Englebert!
A couple of years in a row of moderately successful performers getting respectable results would definitely start the rehabilitation process. I just don’t trust the BBC to not think the best way to celebrate Foxes coming 10th is to immediately draft in Bernie Clifton.

I keep hearing the FOXES rumour also

i mean I'm not against her, but she needs a good song.
Whilst 'Body Talk' was amazing (if too subtle for Eurovision), it's not as if anybody CARED about her first OR second time around :D

A bit of Foxes (with some more bombasticness) would be great.

Also, in regards to the BEEB. From what I've heard the show team are all huge fans, but the show is handled by a lot of the same people that do Strictly, and is seen through the same lens - a fun, campy entertainment show.
I can't really see the strategy changing too much in the next few years. It's got to the point where the UK entrant is pretty much irrelevant, as is their performance. Eurovision is a really successful show for them, and gets a strong young audience too.
Perhaps BMG supplying the talent might make things better this year - having the entrant supplied also means no costly selection show to produce.

DEAR GOD at this Scooch talk. I can't believe that BMG would decide the solution to our woes is to bring back salted nuts and friends. :D

Foxes does seem like a reasonable (and believable) get. On the positive side, most of her singles would be an improvement on all our recent entries and hopefully we'll get a song that doesn't sound like it could only exist as a UK Eurovision entry. She's a good enough live singer, though I'm not sure she has the most impact as a performer. Hopefully people wouldn't expect too much just because we've got serious and entered someone who had a top ten single five years ago.

Come on, don't you think that DESPERATE Scooch said that now to bring some attention? :D That happens here every year, when TVE is about to announce who is going to Eurovision, all those Z-list singers say they have a big announcement coming soon to have 3 eurofans talking about them for 15 minutes.

I did, I loved both her albums and she always gets a great turn out at her gigs which makes me wonder how she hasn’t fared better in chart stats numbers.

Re: Foxes. Clarity was the only good thing she's done. Of course it won't be Scooch.

Body Talk is my favourite Foxes song, but Clarity would be a close second.

All this speculation is going to make the eventual announcement of some complete nobody who maybe made Paloma Faith spin her chair around on The Voice once seem all the more underwhelming.

    Ah well, twas ever thus...

I mean....not that I don´t think the BBC would sink as low as Scooch(they absolutely WOULD :D) but the only reason I honestly don´t think it´s them is because the speculation is about them saying something if people want them representing the UK again in the future on Twitter.....

It´s WAY to obvious, the actual act NEVER drops hints on social media, in fact I´m pretty sure BBC has some type of embargo on it.

When is it usually announced who we actually will be sending?

The last few years we've had a selection show; before that I think it's been a bit random. Electro Velvet was some Saturday night (possibly a red button announcement), can't remember the others.

Has the selection show not usually been on by now? I take it we are not going down that avenue this year.

I think it was confirmed a while ago that we're not doing a selection shows this year; it'll be an internal selection by the BBC and BMG.

We were usually one of the last to declare in March or whenever the deadline is, but I think we were a little early last year or the year before

We were early during the recent national final years but prior to that we were always quite late when we chose internal, no?

Which leads me to think we´re still a good couple of weeks away from hearing anything concrete yet.

Let's face it, BMG are probably still deciding which office junior will be given responsibility for selecting the inevitable mess.

They´ve totally gone the same route as last year(randoms) but just picked who THEY wanted rather than leaving the decision up to the great unwashed in a national final. :eyes:

I've no issue with internal selection. If there's the possibility of a decent song I absolutely wouldn't trust the public to vote for it.

I have no issue with internal selection in the hands of a broadcaster who knows a decent song and performer when it bites them in the arse. As it stands I´m not sure who I actually trust less..the BBC or the public.

Electro Velvet was really a massive step backwards after Molly. I can't believe how much we failed to build on the approach we'd taken for 2014.

Well it sounds like France may have a UK Eurovision appropriate song going spare.

I'm quite surprised that the UK are yet to go down the route of sending a previously successful act.

Oh, shit, it's probably The Fizz.

Alexandra Burke was the red hot rumour yesterday, so I’ve set my hopes unreasonably high. *BBC parachutes Cleo Laine into Rotterdam*
