I wonder which stone you need to evolve an Electro Velvet into a Shell-yann.

Hope is a dangerous thing for a messageboard like Moopy to have - but we have it.

Perhaps Shell has been roped in just to sing back up from in the shadows?

It would suggest that they've got something that actually passes as half current (or at least they THINK :eyes:) or its someone KNOWN to R1s demographic.

Either way five more days of clinging to hope before the annual disappointment of being a Eurovision fan kicks in!

Yes. A bit of detective work shows someone there is at least pretending to be in the know. 'Pleasantly surprised' was the phrase I saw.

And yet the horror that this could all be true and the song could still be a dreadful dud or we end up with a frightful live performance :zombie:

Rita Ora would be a LOVELY surprise. She'll clearly appear on any old shit so why the fuck not this?

Since my scurrilous rumour mongering set so many fannies a-fizzing yesterday, I thought I'd pop back with a bit more. I've gone for a blind item format this time round - it's quite cerebral and will keep you guessing until the very end, so don't feel thick if you don't get it.

Which musical offspring might be representing the UK at Eurovision in May? Eagle-eyed fans have noticed a two month gap in her diary from April, as well as a convenient bit of space on the day our song is revealed. She has new music coming out this Friday, and her manager Tweeted about a massive project at the start of the year. I don't know what her mother's stance on all of this is, but if it's negative don't call me up.

Also, a lady with impeccable table manners has Tweeted about some big news she's announcing later this week.

I’m not really allowed to tell and will get into trouble if I do but I feel obliged to calm nerves and exclusively reveal that the UK entry will be performed by LINDA BARKER :disco:

If it was Mabel, that would be quite the coup. It’s not. But then I live in a world where Nanne just won Melodifestival, so who am I to judge some hot fan fiction? :disco:

The radio 1 thing has set expectations unreasonably high, which is quite fun to watch.

I do think that a bigger artist has nothing to lose by representing us. We're at the lowest possible point, so just getting us onto the left-hand side of the board would be seen as a triumph for them.

I think someone like a Mabel does have a lot to lose. Didn’t she just win a Brit award for best female? Eurovision is seen too much as ‘uncool’ in this country, so it could damage her image. Particularly if she doesn’t do well.

that said, she is on BMG already so let’s just roll with it

Yep. The Radio 1 thing does give the impression that it's probably a step up from Electro Velvet or Joe and Jake but those that seem to have gotten it into their heads an ACTIVE A-Lister is going to do it are going to be sorely disapointed come next week.

The other(more realistic) rumour that seems to have gained some pace is JLS. They've recently reformed, and one of them and his Saturdays wife are on the BBC payroll so that would also fall in line with the Radio 1 thing.

If it was them it could be worse, but at the same time....MEH.

I wouldn't mind JLS, if it came to it. It would be their comeback single AND promo for their tour, so I'd assume they wouldn't just slap out any old shit.

I don't want JLS. Not because I don't think they will be good, but because I don't think choosing a boyband making a comeback is a sustainable way of moving forward for the UK.

Did JLS ever have any hits in Europe or were they strictly a UK / Ireland concern? Wiki rather suggests the latter

True, but when it's a given that current stars don't want to touch it(I mean Mabel...LOL yeah sure), unless you want to go back down the route of picking OAPs that may or may not still have their own teeth, then what you're left is that middle ground of acts who were big 5-10 years ago who aren't THAT old and WILL probably see this as an opportunity to get back in the game and make a comeback.

I don't think we need a star. I'd like them to start with the song, not the act.

Which is why relying on a star is foolish in the first place. To most viewers across Europe, they will be unknown. They don't need to be famous. They need to be good. With a good song.

JLS wouldn't be my first choice for the reasons lolly stated (Groups don't tend to work all that often, Eurovision as a comeback vehicle isn't that much of a step up from previous years) but I'd be confident that they could at least deliver a professional performance and a not-terrible song.

For me it's not so much a question of 'fame' as whether they're experienced enough to handle an arena show. That's where we often fall down too - talented singers with zero stage presence. So I'd ideally want somebody of some profile for that reason.

Someone with presence and experience absolutely. Someone with star quality - but they don't need to be a 'star'.
