I think that means there are six acts performing three songs. All three songs will end up in the final, but the best act for each song will perform it.

So who chooses which of the versions goes through to the final vote. If its the public, I assume that they'll choose the most self-consciously wacky version of each song because it's fun for Eurovision.

Seems like a bad idea to me. It'll make for a very dull NF to have to listen to the same songs multiple times.

Sounds like a right mess. All this STYLES nonsense. Still, should provide multiple opportunities for moaning :disco:

I’m optimistically thinking this means a fair bit of effort will have gone into the songwriting though. It won’t matter what style it’s in if it’s the same old basic shit, surely?

So, we're pinching failed ideas from that notorious Eurovision colossus, Spain? Let's just send Ruth Lorenzo and have done with it.

They can always add some hot EDM sounds to give it that vote-winningly zeitgeisty edge if there’s no actual tune :disco:

I really have to ask who on earth writes a song with the notion in mind of it being performed in various styles :side-eye:

I'm assuming it will be Rylan and associates, similar to our selection in 2008 where the six acts were facing off in three different categories. And look how that turned out :side-eye:

2007, and in a typical Spanish preselection it was taken to the extreme. All 5 finalists had to sing the same 5 songs, so you had 25 possible combinations to vote for. 5 of those made the cut, so they had to sing them again to choose the winner (NASH, later renamed D'NASH).

We did it best in 2010 with Ik ben verliefd (Sha-la-lie). In the end Vader Abraham had to give the final decision but initially refused to do it. He even suggested flipping a coin.

This sounds like a terrible idea on paper

And it will be a terrible idea in execution

Just get one good pop song and a decent performer. That’s all.

FUCK I remember that NF. it went on FOREVER. Poor Mirela came second. I loved the song 'Tu voz se apagará' but they picked the wrong person to sing it.

Yes :D It went on forever, but it was worse in 2009, when they decided to have the third semifinal and the final the same night, one after another (due to poor ratings), it lasted 4 hours at least. Some people in the audience died exhausted.

    I know right?

So there must be 2 artists who each sing 3 songs each but those 3 songs are the same but in different styles? (That’s how it seems to read)

Or 6 artists of course which makes more sense

I think each song is sung twice, and then the winning version makes the super final of 3. Then the winner is chosen.

What we don't know is if the first round is jury or there's a televote - it's quite a complicated process and might take a bit of time to validate the votes. What is for sure is that it will be a very long-winded show. We'll eventually hear each song THREE times before a winner is chosen.

Well at least we will know if it’ll be bearable or not by that stage

    So it’ll be like
Song 1 (written by Cathy Dennis during a signal failure at Harrow), performed in a early 00s Atomic Kitten midtempo style by the third Bedingfield sibling, and also in a Chainsmokers-ish style by some theatre school blonde wastrel with corn rows

Song 2 (written by Amelia Lily for attention) performed by one of the members of Clea in a sweeping ballad too big for her, and in a reggae style by one of the Overs from X-Factor a few years ago

Song 3 (written by an exciting new artist talentscouted from busking) performed in a pure pop style by a sort of fit bloke who likes The Who, and also in a hopelessly off-key EDM banger style by Rylan

Grand final will be Wastrel, Clea and Fit Bloke who wins, coming 28th in a field of 24. See you next year in Podgorica huns!

Isn’t this a bit like we did in 2010 too? 6 artists performed a PWL ‘classic’, and the top 3 all sang the actual song (in the same style)

    Oops

Mind you, don’t Lithuania do something a bit like this too?

Oh surely we can stop doing this? Please, it's just humiliating now. Or, at least, take the piss a bit, enter Russell Haswell with a mic'-ed up freezer and a distortion pedal or something.

That's what no-one has the backbone to do, mock the damn thing and the political voting. The UK will never do well in this ever again so why not mix it up, have a laugh. This is the country that voted "Boaty McBoatface" and for John Sargeant on Strictly. Let's have some FUN.

I think the public opinion misses how the BBC are at the heart of most, if not all, of our troubles at Eurovision

Is this just a reaction to last year where 'Legends' could have done really well if it was sung by someone who wasn't asthmatic?
