If I join a girl group and marry a footballer, will I get a medal too?

Yes, because that's clearly the extent of Victoria Beckham's achievements.

She was the least useful part if the sum of the Spice Girls and has an uninteresting fashion label.

She's HUGELY acclaimed in the fashion world! Her show at the various Fashion Weeks is pretty much standing room only every single year.

She would not get that crowd without the context of her life. I'm not saying she's entirely undeserving and she has made some smart choices, but she doesn't deserve this.

She also wouldn't be selling out pretty much everything she sends to Selfridges each year if people didn't like the clothes. It's not like any of the other various popstars who've chanced their arm at fashion have been able to pull it off! If you're shit, people don't bother turning up again. They certainly don't shell out several hundred quid for your dresses either.

Also since when was OBE a genuine meritocracy? She's achieved more than most people who get one.

He was made an OBE in 2003.

This means her fantasies from the Let Your Head Go video have finally come true.

Has she REALLY contributed to fashion?

    This is a serious question.

I always kind of assumed she was a 'designer' in the same way the Katie Price was an 'author'. But what do I know?

Katie Price barely makes any secret of the fact that she's an opportunist. Churning out books is one facet of her overall brand, it's never been something she's put at the centre of her career.

Victoria Beckham has dedicated the last decade or more of her life to the fashion industry. Every interview or article I've ever read on her her made a point of how hands-on and focused she is. She's given up enormous financial opportunities to reform the Spice Girls to focus on her current career.

What more, exactly, could she be doing?

I did choose Katie Price. I could have (but didn't) say Joey Essex. But whatever.

I'm not calling lolly a sexist per se, but I do think the assumption that she's not talented or involved in the work that she's doing wouldn't be made so easily if she were a man, or from a more 'worthy' background than former Spice Girl.

Do we assume that prat from Blur doesn't make his own cheese? (I'm reaching for a comparison, because frankly not many former pop stars DO make notable success in other industries the way she has).

Each of them deserves a nod for being part of the most successful girl group of ALL TIME, a feat that will most probably never ever be repeated. QUEENS!

The Beatles are all MBEs (until John sent his back). OBE is a rung above that, right? Does this make Victoria Beckham officially bigger than the Beatles?

    Except Sir Paul obvs

I meant what more could she be doing that the likes of you and lolly wouldn't assume she wasn't fundamentally good at or dedicated to her job enough to be 'worthy' of one.

If all she wanted was an OBE, I suspect she'd have spent the last decade fronting a major charity or something.

I just looked up whether the Beatles had OBEs, and apparently George Harrison refused one because Paul McCartney had a knighthood and he felt it was a snub :basil:

The issue is whether she deserves a royal honour.

Well for all your comprehensive knowledge of VB, her award is jointly for her philanthropic efforts!

I REALLY doubt it has anything to do with gender here. I'd still ask the same question if that prat from Blur decided to launch his fashion line. It would be the case for anyone trying out a whole different career really. No one can deny that she had an easier access to the fashion industry based on her celebrity status, regardless of her gender.

I imagine the fashion industry was an easier jump for a pop star who already wore high fashion, than a pop star jumping into the food/ agricultural industry.

You guys needs to watch Abz on the Farm.

Of course she did. But aside from the token Lollipop ladies and dinnerladies, the vast majority of Royal Honourees are people who were raised wealthy and well connected. So what's the difference?
