I really enjoyed the previous movie and thought this will be as good it oh my god it was so boring. Very little happens, it was so slow and so many slow motion shots of the apes (yeah we get the technology is out there now move it along). It was also very drab and colorless. The score was also very jarring.
I've never seen these films but the posters are all around at the moment and it irrationally annoys me that the film is titled War For The Planet Of The Apes as opposed to War Of, I'm sure there's very good reasons but it just shits me Rise Of, Dawn Of, War FOR? Anyway that's my contribution thanks for listening
I'm on an enforced trip to see this tomorrow which is a bit of a shame seeing as I thought the previous two were perfectly average. I've seen people putting it up there with the best trilogies of all time which seems incredibly rich.
I thought the second one was really good, which was surprising since I didn't care much for the first. Also this is super long, over two hours.
OVER TWO HOURS? OH NO! I'm very excited for this, it's got rave reviews and Matt Reeves is a visual genius.
7/10 for the emotional connection and Steve Zain's character. But the pacing was all off, particularly the first half. I never understand how these hugely technical films consistently fail to lay out a tightly plotted storyboard, bloating up the running time. I can understand some comedy film where a director gets carried away and sticks in too many of their favourite improvised scenes etc. but not so much for these.
Shave half an hour off and this would been really good, but it really was far far too long. Despite this, I thought it was the best of the 3. The first one really does feel like it's from a completely different set of movies though, it's SO different in style.
What annoys me much more than the War For title, is I really think Dawn and Rise should have been swapped. Dawn implies the very beginning... Rise implies the rise from the dawn...
I think this was probably the best of the three. Some beautiful individual scenes, great acting from the apes and an emotionally satisfying conclusion. I appreciated that it wasn't just another 2-hour CGI battle scene. They're all just so dour and heavy handed though - and the attempt at introducing comic relief with Dobby the fucking House Chimp didn't work for me at all.
The previous film was vastly superior. This one felt much too brooding, to the point of dullness. Wonderful score from Giacchino though.
