Coming to HBO next month, an adaptation of Michael Crichton's second best known work, from the creative minds of Jonathan Nolan and JJ Abrams.

The trailer is incredibly spoilerific for anyone who hasn't seen the film or knows what the story is, but they have got a truly outstanding cast with all manner of award winners, and the Hemsworth brother who isn't Chris or Liam.

I can't wait! But does this mean the new season of The Leftovers won't be out until after this is finished?

Absolutely loved this. Great opener to set up the series. Curious that Thandie Newton is second billed after a relatively quiet first episode. Evan Rachel Wood was great and I'm hoping it will follow in the footsteps of Game Of Thrones and turn into female empowerment drama. Sidse Babett Knudsen's role was originally going to be played by Miranda Otto and after her dazzling turn in Homeland I can see her perfectly in the role.

And an inspired use of Paint It Black.

The opening episode has had amazing reviews. Only the next 3 have been seen by critics, and word was not so kind there.

Well I enjoyed this, though I'm not sure it was quite Game of Thrones level as an opener. I was left with a lot of questions that I hope the show answers - such as why Ed Harris is allowed to stay overnight at the park and vandalise the robots, whether Thandie was off-script when she shot the other robot through the face (that looked like a very expensive bit of damage for them to be allowed to improv) and exactly what accent Sidse Babbet Knudsen was attempting. I found the British guy a real weak link acting-wise. His sweary rant was really quite embarassing. I also rolled my eyes a bit at the lesbian who kissed the robot as soon as her colleague left the room. A few things like that didn't quite land for me.

But on the whole it was a solid opener and I'm suitably intrigued to stick with it.

Just watched this - certainly a solid start and intrigued to see where it goes. Completely agree with VoR about the annoying British guy though.

Oh I thought the British guy was cute :shy:

I also really liked older boss lady with a weird name.

As a first episode I thought it was excellent, enough mysteries and intrigue and a nice balance between the humans and the park. I struggle to see how it will work as a long format though, are we going to get stuck in an endless loop? Because once they revolt there's no point in staying at the park.

The credits scene was grand and I can't wait to get my hands on that Paint It Black instrumental.

Also episode 2 is out for anyone with HBO Go or equivalent so it should be hitting the torrents soon.

A pleasantly surprising Thandie-centric episode. Still confused/intrigued in a good way, especially with Tony H's scene with that boy. The BB group sex scene was like something out of GOT, but more brief.

I was reminded on another thread that when Jurassic Park was released it was billed as 'Westworld with dinosaurs'.

As easy to mock as she is, Thandie Newton can certainly act. The sequence where she woke up in the operating theatre was chilling. I hope she continues to play a major role.

Finally got round to watch the second episode. I'm really enjoying this. Everything is beatifully done and unlike The Leftovers which really took a long time to take off I'm feeling this one is so far easy getting into.

I kept thinking of Halli when watching because of Thandie. She's my favourite. The English guy really is the worst!

I'm intrigued by the series, I however don't love it yet. Episode 3 contained too much filler.

Maybe it's too obvious but I'm guessing Ed Harris is Arnold?

Erm, didn't we even see a pic of Arnold (a young Ed Harris)?

I thought episode three really dragged.

It's pretty normal for an early episode like this to drag, they're getting into the groove of things. Episode 4 is supposed to be the best.

I believe people have already scrutinized the picture of Arnold and confirmed it's not a young Ed Harris.

It definitely feels like this show needs to ramp up the stakes and soon. As well made and (mostly) well acted as it is so far, I can easily see it turning out to be one of those overly ponderous HBO shows that heamorrhages viewers going into the second season.

and as lovely as our SIDSE looks on screen, her accent really steals focus from anything else in her scenes :zombie:

The pace of this isn't putting me off in the slightest. I'm still a bit confused by things, like when Jeffrey Wright talks to Delores does that always happen when she's asleep/off line and how is he physically with her?

there are a lot of things i don't quite get yet (what was the bit with cigar special effects about?) but i'm ok with not caring that much as long as the moral conundrums are there and the dialogue is good.

I've trouble figuring this out as well. do they have two replicas of the same host with one mind or do they haul them down every time they want to chat for five minutes?

Could Ben Barnes be a young Anthony Hopkins and Jimmi Simpson Arnold?

Evan Rachel Wood deserves all the best actress award nominations she'll surely get in a few months time.

And when it come to full frontal make nudity, that water pourer really had it going on.

I can't read the last bunch of comments because I still haven't finished watching last week's episode. I've been tired but I keep falling asleep when watching this show. The slow pace and the soundtrack makes it hypnotising and puts me to sleep rather then gets me excited.

any info on how many seasons they've planned for this?

the mystery of Dolores's autonomy is pretty much solved now, no? this Arnold planted something in her before he offed himself. and did he off himself because of her? Hopkins tearing up suggested some kind of menage a trois melodrama

Maeve was quite something in the last episode, the bit where she takes a walk was one of the best sequences so far. I hope Elsie is not dead. I guess Arnold is not dead or at least he downloaded his consciousness into a host and is fucking with Anthony Hopkins.

I think they said they have five seasons planned but that's what most people tend to say. It doesn't mean they know what they're doing.

A few people I've recommended this too think it's boring and dull but fuck them. I'm really enjoying it and the pay off when it comes will I'm sure be worth it.

Thandie Newton has been a revelation as a robotic woman.
