So I was going to do my Top 50 Albums of all genres but then there were so many :black: ones that I thought OOH THAT'LL BE DIFFERENT!

I do have some sort of life so I'm not writing reviews for each album I'm afraid. I will just post some pointless/interesting info and maybe some pretty pictures & videos. I thought I might do some sort of rating for each track in graphic form but how I'm going to do that I don't know. We'll see.

Prepare for very few male artists, A LOT of rubbish female artists, blah blah. I'm also preparing myself for the inevitable THAT'S NOT R&B crap but whatevar.

    Enjoy! x

    Terri Walker

    (2003)

    UK Chart Peak: #118 :D

The debut album from UK R&B/Soul singer Terri Walker, nominated for a MOBO award and the Mercury Music Prize for album of the year. I also liked the follow-up to this, L.O.V.E., her attempt to go more commerical. I thought she was really talented, but even I never bothered with the last album. Poor Terri :(

    Track listing (singles in bold):

    "Love Fool"
    "Drawing Board" (Promo only)
"Guess You Didn't Love Me" (Featuring Mos Def) (#60)
    "It's All Good"
"Ching Ching (Lovin' You Still)" (#38)
    "Fake"
"What Will I Do" (Featuring Blueblood)
    "Love You For Life"
    "Deutschland"
    "Dirty Weekend"
    "4 Feet Under"
    "Da Business"
    "For Life (Reprise)"
    "Brand New Day"

    US Chart Peak: #16 Heatseekers

Back in the day when I would buy anything that my bible, Blues & Soul magazine, told me to, I was quite into this little album, which featured production by Nellee Hooper and Mark Ronson. The track "Black Mona Lisa" was covered by X Factor reject Maria Lawson. All tracks were co-written by Lamya. I went off it a bit when my bastard ex-boyfriend told me how much he loved it, but it remains a beautiful album. She ended up singing back-up vocals for the reformed Duran Duran.

OMG apparently she died of a heart attack in January! :o :(

    Track listing (singles in bold):

    "Empires"
    "East of Anywhere"
    "Black Mona Lisa"
    "Never Enough"
    "Judas Kiss (Brutus Diss)"
    "Full Frontal Fridays"
    "I Get Cravings"
    "Splitting Atoms"
    "Never's Such a Long Time"
    "The Woman Who"
    "The Perfect Girl"
    "Pink Moon"
    "Black Mona Lisa (Single Mix)"

According to HMV it was Jan 99. It would so be Top 5 otherwise.

    Whitney Houston

    (2009)

    UK Chart Peak: #3
    US Chart Peak: #1

So a more recent entry now, and I'll probably get some stick for it being low but it's still fairly new to me. Remember I waited until it was ON SALE to buy & listen to it. Writing and production from the album includes contributions from Swizz Beatz, Johntá Austin, Alicia Keys, R. Kelly, Danja and Akon. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 1 with sales of 305,000, beating her previous career best of 205,000 with Just Whitney in 2002.

    Track listing (singles in bold):

    1. "Million Dollar Bill" (#5)
    2. "Nothin' But Love"
    3. "Call You Tonight"
    4. "I Look to You"
    5. "Like I Never Left" (Featuring Akon)
    6. "A Song for You"
    7. "I Didn't Know My Own Strength"
    8. "Worth It"
    9. "For the Lovers"
    10. "I Got You"
    11. "Salute"

My favourite track, "Call You Tonight"

    47. Fear Of Flying
    Mýa

    (2000)

    UK Chart Peak: #98
    US Chart Peak: #15

Let's go all the way back to 2000 now with the second album by American singer Mýa, featuring songs from all the big players at the time: Wyclef Jean, Swizz Beatz, Rodney Jerkins, Robin Thicke, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Amazingly, it sold 1.2 million copies in the US. I remember listening to "Case Of The Ex" on repeat when I was, what, 16? :shy: The Janet-esque follow-up "Free" was pretty ace too, as was "Again & Again".

    Track listing (singles in bold):

    "Turn It Up (intro)"
    "Case of the Ex" (#3)
    "Free" (#11)
    "Pussycats"
    "Again & Again"
    "How You Gonna Tell Me"
    "Grandma Says (skit)"
"Takin' Me Over" (featuring Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes)
"The Best of Me" (featuring Jadakiss) (US #50)
    "Lie Detector" (featuring Beenie Man)
    "Fear Of Flying"
    "Fear Of Flying (interlude)"
    "Now Or Never"
    "Man In My Life"
    "Can't Believe"
    "That's Why I Wanna Fight"
    "Ride & Shake"
    "Get Over (outro)"

The AMAZING "Case Of The Ex"

I bought the Mya album after obsessing over "Case of the Ex" when I constantly had it on repeat on one of those old NOW! compilations. Ironically enough, when I got the proper album I only listened to "Case of the Ex" and rarely anything else on the album, although strangely enough I do still vividly remember "Pussycats". Are those singles positions for the US or UK? Cause the album charted so poorly in the UK considering...

I of course love the Whitney album, one of my favorites of the year.

I'm trying to keep it all UK unless otherwise stated.

Yep the singles did quite well but the album didn't. She could've been so much bigger if she'd had a good album ready after Lady Mamalade. I do like Moodring <s>but, let's face it, it's a bit shit</s> - OMG it's amazing!

God it's been ages since Moodring, even Dido has released something since then. I recall the two singles from that album being rather good, even if "My Love..." was a bit :|

Bless her though, considering she's had at least several quite huge hits (from a US perspective anyway), she's never really had ANY momentum as a popstar whatsoever. Which probably explains why she hasn't released an album since 2003. She should just release something now, her profile has gotten a boost cause of a very successful run on Dancing With the Stars.

Better know as Missy Elliott's back-up singer. I started to obsess over her when Mariah played "Superwoman Remix" on her Capital Radio Takeover show. She is a fabulous singer and this album is HOT. I love blasting it in my drop top when I roll thru my Surbiton hood. This was her second album, featuring guest appearances by Fabolous, Lil' Kim and Missy Elliott among others. Strong black women y'all.

    Track listing (singles in bold):

    "Intro"
"Why Do We Fall In Love"
    "Doing Me Wrong"
    "4Ever" (featuring Fabolous) (US #37)
    "Ten Commandments" (featuring Lil' Kim)
    "Ain't No Reason"
    "Heaven (Interlude)"
    "Brand Nu"
    "1st Time"
    "So Lost Without You"
    "Shoulda Known"
    "Disturbing Phone Call" (Interlude)
    "Get Over It"
    "It's Your World"
"Letter From My #1 Fan" (Interlude)
    "Letter From My #1 Fan"

To be fair, even Usher was utterly shit and without stage presence there. There are only 2 people who can sing that song. One of them was in the audience, the other was on stage.

Debut album released by the two Neptunes guys and their friend Shay. It was originally released in Europe in 2001 with typical Neptunes electronic production. The album was re-recorded in 2002 with 1960s-style power pop band Spymob, giving it a more of a rock-oriented sound and making it easier to tour the album live. It's great to play really loudly when you're angry. Incidentally, if anyone knows where I can get the original album, please let me know - it is a rare item these days and I would love to hear it.

    Track listing (singles in bold):

"Lapdance" Feat. Lee Harvey & Vita (#20)
    "Things Are Getting Better"
    "Brain"
    "Provider" (#20)
"Truth or Dare" Feat. Kelis & Pusha T
    "Tape You"
    "Run to the Sun"
    "Baby Doll"
    "Am I High" Feat. Malice
    "Rock Star" (#15)
    "Bobby James"

    Stripper anthem "Lapdance"

Lil Mo did a really lovely cover of Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. That's the only thing of hers that ever really entered my radar though.

    44. More
    Tamia

    (2004)

    US Chart Peak: #17

Tamia's third album, which kept getting delayed because of the poor reception of the first single and her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. The follow up to this, "Between Friends", never got a UK release, did it? I remember some of the tracks being amazing on that too - must investigate. Anyway, she's got a lovely voice and some great songs. Shame she never took off - she's probably in a wheelchair by now. "Into You" became a big hit for Fabolous Featuring Ashanti, but the original version with Tamia, which samples her 1998 song "So Into You", is far superior.
