They're both pretty shit but Jessica is so the superior of this retarded celebrity family.
i really loathe her, but like i said i have a thing for IWLYF
VoR in voting for bland shit SHOCK.
Actually that's not such a bad list of songs at all if you ignore the covers.
Although I was tempted to vote for her version of Angels because I love it. It is PURE MUSICAL COMEDY.
"I'm loving Angels INSTEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHH*grunt*AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH"
A Public Affair is her most effort, but With You pushes all my bland breezy pop buttons.
In This Skin is an OK album actually. I somehow have all her pop releases, but that's the only one I'd even remotely consider listening to beyond the singles.
Angels is AMAZING!
I Think I'm In Love With You for the great sample of Jack & Diane.
Oh that's pretty good! Works better if you don't look at the ugly bitches though.
I LOVED Irresistible at the time too, although I remain bitter that that got to be a top 11 UK hit while Mandy Moore's spectacular In My Pocket went unreleased.
I can't believe If You Were Mine wasn't a single, it's a great little song
i actually think jessica's singing/face-wraping on the jewel duet is one of the worst and most amusing/amazing things ever
I wanted to vote for 'I Wanna Love You Forever' and 'A Public Affair'. Heart both of them probably a bit too much. Still listen to the latter regular.
I remember when I thought 'A Public Affair' was going to be HUGE and finally break her properly in the UK
Anyway I went for 'I Think I'm In Love With You' - I remember being OBSESSED with it at the time. It had a Mariah Carey Fantasy esque video if I remember correctly. Loved it!
I have a thing for 'With You' too
Infact I think I am a bit of a rubbish gai Jessica Simpson fan
Never bought one of her albums though
can someone put iwlyf in papa joe's token of affection for jessica please?
I think A Public Affair was ultimately TOO GAY coming from somebody nobody really liked much to make any kind of impact in the UK, but it was still fucking fabulous
Irresistible got my vote, but I really liked pretty much all her stuff up until the re-release of 'In This Skin', the annoying Newlyweds video for With You and the hideous HIDEOUS 'Boots...'
I remember when I picked up the Irresistible and Mandy Moore's self-titled albums in the US summer 2001, Entertainment Weekly gave Mandy's a B (or possibly a B+], and Jessica's got a D....but there's so much to cringe but secretly enjoy about all the over-singing with Jess' LP and especially the spoken phone interlude bits on 'Hot Like Fire'
I've not even HEARD a single one of them. How have you UK lot managed it?
You surely can't hear them by accident living here, but i can't imagine anybody intentionally seeking them out either.
Six of them were top twenty UK hit singles. Three of them top tens.
I remember hearing I Wanna Love You Forever and I Think I'm In Love LOADS back in 2000.
I remember hearing she was the new Britney, and seeing a clip of a video when she stood in front of an aeroplane, but i assumed it just flopped totally and she became one of those people who are really big but only in america. Like those 'Gosselins' i keep seeing about but have not clue who they are.
I watched a load of music tv back in 00 as well. I must have just kept flicking and have since selectively edited her from my history.
They're all AWFUL except A Public Affair which is quite fun
That's 2000 #7 smash I Wanna Love You Forever
I Wanna Love You Forever: #7 April 2000
I Think I'm In Love With You: #15 July 2000
Irresistible: #11 July 2001
With You: #7 June 2004
These Boots Are Made For Walking: #4 September 2005
A Public Affair: #20 February 2007
She's a bit like Leann Rimes though, in that she scores the odd hit here but never goes beyond one or two singles per album and as such has no career momentum in this country whatsoever.
As Utterly atrocious as it is, These Boots Are Made For Walking is my favourite, not least because almost everything else is of varying shades of shit.
Was Jessica Simpson ever big anywhere?
yes, in the boobs department
I can never get enough of this SPASTICATED HOT MESS
Jessica Simpson is almost like a PISSTAKE in it.
I thought Jewel was a proper singer-songwriter-musician type. What is she doing with HER?
She was a decent enough singer back then wasn't she? (GOD knows where her voice went) Her main problem has always been that her body language screams CUNT but I don't think she can help it. She jerks and twists around like a severe ADHD case.
As an aside, they had their own variety show?!
I'm fond of I Wanna Love You Forever, I remember it was HUGE in 99, LAtin MTV wouldn't sotp playing it along with channels that usually show videos in between shows like Sony TV and Disney.
I also have a soft spot for BOOTS and Angels
I remember PAPA JOE saying Jess was gonna win a Grammy with Angels
She has some good pop songs but she's such a crap popstar, frankly. It's that she has absolutely no identity and was kind of just thrown into the pop landscape by mistake or something, it's bizarre. She was being shifted around as this Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera carbon copy and going back and forth between being 'the voice' and then a generic pop slut (see: Irresistable era). And when people realized she had really nothing to bring to the table, her career just took a nosedive right on cue.
With THAT said, I do think she found a niche by the Newlyweds and 'In This Skin', the way she was marketed as a celebrity and reality star who also happens to be a pop singer is something we all frequently look down upon but she pulled it off quite well and she IS a personality rather than a serious pop artist at the end of the day, so there was no reason to pretend that she was destined to be this massive teen popstar competing with Britney and Christina's early massive successes.
Of course once the reality show ended and Nick and Jessica were no longer a couple the entire PACKAGE of why she was successful just fell apart right there. Her "If You Were Mine" song off of her Public Affair album was indeed as was "B.O.Y." but they weren't hit songs.
09 I Wanna Love You Forever - she COULD sing at one point
00 Where You Are
08 I Think I'm in Love With You
07 A Little Bit
07 Sweetest Sin
07 With You
05 Take My Breath Away
06 These Boots Were Made for Walking
07 A Public Affair
02 I Belong to Me
08 Come on Over
?? Remember That - I don't REMEMBER it, for reals
For someone who seems as clean living as Jessica to have lost her voice in her mid twenties is pretty frightening surely? How has she lost it may I ask?
This wont let me embed but although she is oversinging a bit she is still pretty brilliant.
Kate is obviously unaware of Jewel's "ironic" slutty-pop-princess era
That song Intuition from her time as a pop bitch really was dreadful. Poor Jewel and her unfortunate jaw
HAVE A WORD
I didn't think she had lost her voice?
I always thought she had really strong vocals she just didn't know how to use them properly and just shouted everything
When I was a 17 year old terrible gay I LIVED for the Soda Club Mix of I Wanna Love You Forever. It was so fucking MELODRAMATIC like a Bonnie Tyler video for the MTV Select generation.
The Public Affair album is equal parts excrement and amazement. The Spin Me Round non-cover/non-based on a sample THING sums up the whole album. It defies explanation. Fired Up is the type of song I would RUN INTO THE GROUND in my terrible fictional club night alongside Lindsay Lohan's Bossy and If You Were Mine is to the power of infinity.
A video like this shows just how much her voice has changed (as opposed to "lost"):
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ihOSPTVonm4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ihOSPTVonm4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
To be honest, I don't think she attempts to sing like that anymore, and I imagine in part, she was fairly young when she could hit the high notes without straining. On the first three albums you can hear a gradual change, the straining had already started on 'Irresistible', though it was 'In This Skin' where it became REALLY noticeable.
She seems to have just been one of those unfortunate singers whose voice didn't mature and maintain the qualities it had around the time she launched.
