I know it's a complex show but the amount of cock-ups already is shocking. I expected so much better from Germany.

    * DREADFUL sound during the first few performances last night - arguably costing countries like Albania and Norway their qualifications.

    * Overrunning by a good 15 minutes last night

    * Commentators being cut off across Europe

    * Spain losing the sound entirely during the Norwegian performance (I'm not sure if this is Germany's fault or a domestic issue, in fairness...)

    * Loads of tech issues in the rehearsals, particularly with Russia and Sweden

I hope they get it sorted out for Saturday.

I find the overrunning really annoying. I wasn't at home and therefore taped it with only 5 extra minutes since it never is longer than 2 hours.

Apparently even if they'd given her a 12, she wouldn't have qualified. :(

She would have been royally fucked over by the juries the same way Allez Ola Olé was last year. :(

That could mean they came quite low then, unless of course there was a big gap in points.

Not technical, but some of the camera-work was SHIT

    That's always a given, sadly.

The Russian backflip was particularly underwhelming thanks to the way they shot it.

Alexei was visbly bricking it last night. I imagine if he'd fucked up and they'd missed the cut he might have "gone missing" on his return to the Motherland. :hitler:

The camera work at Eurovision has been getting poorer over the last few years. It used to be better and there's really no excuse for it getting worse year on year.

The sound mix was dreadful last night too and the presenters seemed less professional even than the Serbian ones. It's really not what I expected from a German broadcaster.

EXACTLY! Especially re: Stella, watching it at the time, I felt that the camera-work really let her down and made what was quite a charming performance become static.

Yes, what a waste of the backflip. And sometimes you could see cameras flashing through. Not really convincing work in general.

There is one more thing to add:

Some people were injured by the bright spotlights during the welcoming party of the major.

Why do we mess this up so much?

Watching Russia back, I think the backflip was more a problem with its place in the routine, there was a decent shot of it. It was just shoved in between two lines of the chorus!

As for sound problems, I certainly didn't hear anything wrong with Albania, don't really remember any with Norway but I'm sketchy. Poland's sound levels were HORRIFIC though (or maybe it was just her)

Alex looked extremely nervous yesterday, shaking his microphone. I hope he won't do too well Saturday.

I think it might have been a bit of both, she was a little shaky vocally at points, but the sound mixing was awful for most her performance.

I was also thinking the Poland sound was beyond awful. First she was screaming and second the sound just sounded dog rough.

San Marino's sound was AWFUL as well. I'm still not sure whether she WAS that quiet or whether they fucked up the volume levels.

The stuff I saw (about 4 songs I'm afraid) looked more than decent to be honest and the staging/screens were quite sensational.

I don't get the fuss about Norway. Dud second rate track that got what it deserved :disco:

I'd expected better from Germany to be honest, not that I'm stereotyping countries or anything.

Oh and YES, I agree with the general sentiment. I expected better, too. I'm hoping for a massive improvement for semi #2 especially soundwise.

Well, it would be a TRAVESTY if the entries in the second semi had the luxury of getting their individual performances without any technical problems like TWICE IN A ROW.

    Ugh.

Did you really think that the jury's were going to favour him anyway? Especially after last night where the majority of the weak singers didn't make it through.
