Nothing for this weekend then? :D

Grace really is becoming a FOH - I'm quite pleased to see a groundswell of resistance to her horrendously affected voice.

Holly Tandy and Rak Su are my joint faves :)

I saw Saturday's but then didn't bother last night. George Michael theme yet we have an act doing Adamski and Rak Su basically turning Faith into another original.

I only bothered with the last 20 minutes of each show. I clearly can't resist the drama of who is going to win the prize.

Grace's shtick is wearing very thin, isn't it?

And I'm not sure if the stylists hate her, or if she just doesn't look good in ANYTHING.

Surely this is a great thing? The worst thing about X Factor is how it's just a bunch of people doing karaoke. I've been begging for them to do a show with acts doing their own songs for literally decades, so I bothered to listen to their version of Faith - and I think it's great!

I can’t believe someone would pick Killer/Papa Was A Rolling Stone out of everything in his catalogue.

I loved Nicole constantly making subtle digs... "oh Rae-Elle, that's one of my favourite Stevie Wonder songs... oh Grace, that's such a great Bonnie Raitt song".

Must we have Simon's son mentioned (or even worse ONSCREEN) every episode?

One of the worst things for me this series is the cut-to shots of the other contestants dancing along side of stage.

What I think has been a big downfall of this show as a whole is the judges comments/reactions - so dull, so unhelpful, so beige and cliche, plus constant standing ovations for mediocre performances.

Crap viewing figures aside, this is having more iTunes success than it has for a few years, isn't it?

    Ram Su are #1, #17, #21 & #32
    Grace #23 & #80
    Cutkelvins #44
    Lloyd #50 & #53
    Kevin #61 & #77
    Sean & Conor #74

I think they are only streaming on Apple music, so presumably that's the reason why they aren't charting. Or have they chosen to exclude them from the final chart? I'd have thought Rak Su would have had enough combined sales to break the lower end of the top 100.

The iTunes performances are strong but then digital sales are down since the show’s heyday so there will always be a bit of inflation I guess.

To an extent there is that, but iTunes positions are decidedly stronger than last year, and they haven't dropped that much since then, so I don't think that explains more than a small proportion of it.

There is also the fact that a lot of the performances by the guest stars that week aren't hitting as big as they used to, but despite that the contestants are.

And it's also interesting that it's the original songs that are finding an audience most.

I'm sure Cowell is smarting from the viewing figures, but there must be some satisfaction from the fact that he can at least attempt to claim chart relevance from the show. Not that I'm convinced that anyone other than Rak Su will have any sort of endurance.

The six left seem like the 'right' six somehow. Lloyd is very Rhydian-era but I actually love his voice.

I see Matt Terry’s quietly-released debut album debuted at #29 this week.

Presumably dropped by the new year then.

So that was the final last night? :D

Oh well there's not much to say anymore really. I had it on in the background and was aware that they were all pretty good, probably better than a lot of final line ups over the years, but I just don't CARE anymore. It's singing show fatigue but everything is so self aware now and each act seems to be nipped and tucked each week in an attempt to make them chart friendly.

I know that was always the case but it was never so bad, people used to come out, sing, and just get on with it and I'm sure there used to be a lot less "ringers" too who weren't obviously sought out beforehand. The more marketable and popular acts would reveal themselves naturally.

I doubt even a few years rest would save it, it's fucked now

i think the decline started and continued because everything became the greatest ever - there are only so many times that you can believe the validity of comments that say some performance of Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow was the best vocal of all time in the history of television. Gone are the days when Sharon Osbourne would tell one of the finalists that his performance was fucking shit and that he was an arsehole. :disco:

Yes, when 8 of 10 performances are getting a standing ovation and Louis is trying to gee the crowd up every fucking second you know the magic has gone. In series 5, getting a standing O was a big thing cos it rarely happened.

It feels more like a competition for acts who are on the cusp of making it rather than an unknown talent search. Imagine Tesco Mary on it now :D

Rak-Su win and release a Latino single (oh how surprising) featuring Wyclef Jean chanting SHAKIRA SHAKIRA in the first line of his verse :D

Oh is it over then? It will be interesting to see how this does when it barely creeped over 4 million viewers.

Not that it's an real indicator of endurance, but crap viewing figures or not, on iTunes it's had more impact this year than it has for a few series.

Have they chosen to exclude them from the chart though? I know they have only been streaming on Apple music, which obviously would have harmed chart position, but I'd imagine Rak Su would have sold enough to end up at the bottom end of the chart most weeks.

Pretty sure we'd get at least 5 pages for an X-Factor final episode let alone for a whole series. To say the magic has gone is an epic understatement.

And I think Rak Su have a better chance of a career of a few years than Matt Terry or Louisa Johnson had. Surely SyCo will put her out of her misery now.

Just for reference in terms of Moopy posts:

    2017: 184
    2016 - 678
    2015 - 900

Before that there were weekly topics.

    Says it all!

Rak-Su should definitely perform better than Louisa and Matt but I still doubt their longevity... one decent album campaign before the novelty wears off.

It was really strange to see her doing a karaoke turn on Alone amongst the eighties act on that CiN special the other week.

I wonder if they will launch Rak Su earlier than they usually do the winners, considering they have half an album's worth in the bank as performed on the show. Get them ready for BGT maybe, while the iron is as semi warm as it is going to get?

I agree, one possibly OK performing album, then a TV personality future for Myles beckons.

2016 would have been WAY worse if it had not been for Saara I expect. Astonishing though how it has just DIED so badly on it's arse though!

They performed a song called Touché on the final which I thought was quite good.
Do they write their own songs? If they do so, I think they can do well.

I'm sure they will get something out a lot sooner than Q4 2018. It would be madness not to, when they have performed half an album of original tracks on the show already.

Why would they? Unlike Matt Terry, at least her 'flops' are profitable.

They might be hanging around a bit, but you don't get any real sense that her career is gaining any sort of traction, do you? And still no word on an album. I know albums are less important than they used to be, but the fact that they have made her wait this long with still nothing confirmed hardly bodes well for faith in her.

I wasn't trying to claim that he was in any better a position than her. I assumed he pretty much was already toast after the album limped in this week.

I definitely spy a March/April release for the Rak-Su album. Hell, they'd even do well releasing it for the Mother's Day market. My mum's 57 and she loves them.

Although in sure Cowell will get some comfort from having Rak Su having the entire top 6 on iTunes, except Sheeran at #2. And Grace at #8.
