For the first since about 2004 we actually have a rival for #1 to the X Factor...

and currently Rage Against the Machine are #1, with Joe at #3

Even though this will probably change later, I'm actually surprised RATM are #1. Does it count towards the chart if I buy it from here? Coz I might just bother.

No it does not (I don't think)

I think it might be closer than we all think.

That's probably because RATM were available for all of Sunday.

I guess enough people has to endure 2 hours last night and have gone straight on and bought RATM...

I would have definitely stretched 29p on Amazon to download RATM if Olly had won. Now I don't really care.

It's like choosing between two cups of cold sick for me really. The Rage one has more metaphorical chunks of carrot in it though, so i pick that one.

I don't care whether it's more money for Sony or more publicity for Cowell, it winning would mostly show that X Factor isn't some universally adored and all conquering commodity, which would be nice i think.

Joe'll surely be number one within an hour or so though.

According to the super soaraway Sun -

Also why does the first word or two of every article in The Sun have to be in capitals? It just looks stupid there

Doesn't it depend on what the seller buys it for in the first place as to whether it's chart worthy?
However surely they're not ALL going to try and sell it at a loss?

Oops. Voted for the wrong one, obviously. I of course am backing RATM. It's an amazing song as well. But I think Joe will win.

Obviously I am backing The Climb, I don't like the whole X Factor monopoly on the charts very much, but it is a damn good song.

Yes. Sony will be getting paid 49p per download regardless of what the stores are selling it for, and they will all be chart eligible.

Unless you are a chav or a pre-pubescent girl you'll be backing Rage Against the Machine. And believe me there are a lot of chavs/teens in this country.

Anyway, I am backing The Climb. I don't even like Joe much, or the song, but I hate the 'real music' brigade more than the black plague and The X Factor is far preferable. At least the show keeps us entertained for months on end. What the shag have Rage Against The Machine done for me in the last few months? SOD ALL.

I'd probably back a campaign if it was for a jolly Christmas song to get to no. 1 in Christmas week.

That said, if I actually liked the other song, I would probably go for it.

No single from any reality outing is worth more than a 5/10 at the MOST. If ANY established artist released that, or any breakthrough artist, we'd RIP THE SHIT out of it like a pack of RABID DOGS and the offending artist would usually dissolve without trace.
Nothing redeeming. Nothing at all. Musically and vocally its void of any personality.

It's musical WAFERS. It makes TAP WATER look like the FLAVOUR OPTION. It shows Westlife off to be STADIUM ROCKERS.

A ridiculous generalisation. Lots of other countries have amazing reality show singles.

Just like, say, Miley Cyrus, who released this song in April 2009, and is one of the biggest selling recording artists in the world?

Lot's of other countries of GREAT GOVERNMENTS and LOW CRIME RATES, doesn't stop it being a PROBLEM

She hasn't even had a top 10 hit in the UK. Certainly not with this soppy sack of wet pillows.

I was just saying it was a generalisation.

No. 11. And seeing as she's selling millions in the biggest music market in the world, I doubt she's overly concerned about it 'only' getting to no. 11 in the UK. Fact is, it was a hit for a major recording artist, thus disproving Widge's theory.

I am in full agreement with you that it's SHIT though.

Of course its come from a big single. They always do. They take a big single, remove anything that made it vaguely interesting or special and then pump the vocal over it. Its the equivalent of painting your house entirely in beige when you go to resell. You are left with this tidy, nice yet utterly empty void.

I, as I'm sure we all are, am waiting with curiosity to see what the midweek sales will be like tomorrow. I think RATM supporters are going to be disappointed; I expect Joe to be quite a bit ahead. It took RATM far longer to get to climb to #1 on itunes than it took Joe.

And it would have to be released in its CURRENT format for US ... as in this forum ... to rip it to shite. We so would. I mean its below par Westlife fodder and we're barely restrained against them. Its the very incarnation of music that this forum stands up against.
