This time at a centre for people with learning difficulties. Up to 20 believed to be killed.
I was gonna do this topic, but I did the last one. Good to share it around.
Maybe we should just do a "US mass shootings - December" thread to cover us for the next few weeks
The thought passed through my head to do a 'Generic US shootings topic' so can cover them all. We'd need extra bandwidth to cover them all.
Must be weird for usual suspects to see a shooting committed by Muslims but isn't terrorism, and isn't referred to as terrorism by the right wing media - it goes against all those "clever" memes that say the media refers to all shootings by Muslims as terrorism and all shootings that aren't by Muslims are "lone wolves".
I can kind of see the difference. Someone doing it with jihadist training or with jihadist flag waving is different to someone shooting up a primary school because they're sad. Fuck knows what these two nut jobs are.
Apparently an ISIS attack
Yet oddly only notable for being an ISIS attack.
Has it been confirmed as an ISIS attack? It still says motive unkown in MY SOURCES.
Although it does seem odd that they had so much ammo and PRIMED PIPE BOMBS ready to go in the event of a workplace dispute.
You can imagine ISIS disassociating itself with this particular case of mass murder.
They had all that ammunition, explosives and pipe bombs and they used it to settle a petty workplace squabble when they could have slaughtered far more people in a cinema attack or on public transport or during a Black Friday shopping day.
There's probably a #notinmyname campaign being started somewhere.
Another chance to see how immune news viewers have become: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41880511
Can't believe it's been over 3 months since an apparently major one. One at a Florida school today.
At least 17 dead. Worst school shooting since Sandy Hook.
Is it just me, or were some of the students being interviewed on the news SMILING? Or at least very nonchalant about the situation?
It's a stark contrast to the likes of Columbine, which was the first major one I remember.
I've not seen any coverage yet, but I guess perversely they're probably as immune to the horror of it all, much like the rest of us. It was still VERY SHOCKING in the 1990s. But there's been what 4-5 mass shootings with 10+ casualties in the USA the last couple of years?
Can't be bothered to read the details on this one. Absolutely no point as nothing will be done about it.
There's literally nothing new to report about it.
In the last 2 years there have been 4 mass shootings with 17+ casualties. Probably a lot more with 10+.
I saw the news report saying it was a "safe neighbourhood". No neighbourhood is safe when any loon can walk into a store and buy a gun, so that was pretty much a pointless statement.
So I guess I'm with you - nothing will ever be done about it, so move along and wait for the next one.
What's so frightening about these attacks beyond the obvious is that they're not just done by little pistols, but by these huge professional-grade weapons. I don't get the cognitive dissonance that America has on this. Like surely it makes sense to make sure that the average joe can't get their hands on these huge monster guns, even whilst defending the right to bear arms.
It would be interesting to see the reaction to a mass shooting at the NRA headquarters.
“WE NEED MORE GUNS TO DEFEND OUR CHILDREN!!!111”
Only because it's affluent and white enough. Indeed that's not a qualifier when even kids can get their hands on assault weapons
Apparently a white supremacist group has claimed a link. It's ok, cos there's good people on both sides.
Most of the comments I've seen on social media appear to support the pro-gun argument of "this isn't a problem with guns, it's a problem with PSYCHOPATHS".
Which isn't exactly WRONG, so it's hard to discount the sentiment of the latter part of the argument. But there seems to be no joined up thinking in that yes, clearly it is a problem with individuals who have such tendencies as opposed to the whole gun owning community, but the fact that it's so easy to indulge that tendency is hugely problematic.
Nothing will be done.
Individuals in the US have the RIGHT (godammit) to stroll into a shop, and purchase weapons of mass destruction.
This right is sacred.
Thoughts and prayers to everyone.
Two words - population control.
So now they are trying to pass legislation to arm the teachers but all legislation to ban assault rifles gets voted down.
Don’t the teachers get a say in this? I’m sure this isn’t what they signed up for when they began in their professions. I can see there being mass resignations and a low uptake in teacher training in the future.
Obviously I don't think more guns is the answer at all, but if they MUST insist on guns in schools then surely it should come at the expense of trained security professionals, not teachers.
They had that in Parkland. He didn't go in.
It wouldn't surprise me if you did.
I tried to come up with a funny quip on this issue. I couldn't. The US is far too gone with their gun obsession.
America keeps finding new ways to keep the stupidity fresh. I mean, honestly, imagine me and Cwej running around with AK-47s
Just imagine that image with a bunch of brown people and see what the US government would say!
You didn't get a picture of the HEAD LOON with the GOLDEN GUN
In hot gun new, after confirming he wants to arm teachers, Trump came out in favour of limited gun control yesterday (age limit up to 21, better background checks) plus the bonus of suggesting the police should be allowed to seize guns from anyone they think is dangerous as "due process can come later"
He also told Republicans not to be scared of the NRA even though they are more dependent on them than him
Naturally both sides are rather WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK about it
I didn't realise that gun blessing lot were a rebrand of the Moonies, so a lack of rational thinking comes with the territory.
Why does nothing good ever come from an organisation with an acronym ending "RA"?
Is that Caitlyn Jenner in the first pic?
Can we just get all of these loons - of which there are seemingly tens of millions - in one city for a big convention or something and then drop a missile on them and wipe out the problem in one go?
I'm sure we could just blame Russia and all will be fine.
