Obviously this is totally spoiling it for everyone who’s now desperate to see it after our hot promo, but I do recall having ACTUAL HOPE that they’d leave and never come back :(

God it was AWFUL
 
Tarr is easily in my all-time top 5 arthouse directors. And this is of course such a highlight. Anyone fancy a night out? :disco:

 
I have two free tickets for any Picturehouse (from winning a few film quizzes) and unfortunately the are no non mainstream films even playing at them at the moment that I couldn’t just use my Cineworld pass to see. Where are you seeing all of this arthouse stuff?

most days hope is the last thing I register so I am still eager to watch it. preferably on a sunny day with the blackout curtains firmly shut

the national film institute runs a fantastic (arthouse) cinema. surely London can offer something similar?!
 
I’ve seen most of my miseryfests over the years at the ICA or various Curzon cinemas. (I’m still furious about the renaming of the Renoir.) And I saw ‘Nobody Knows’ at The Phoenix in Finchley the other week. I’d not been there before. Quite exciting
 
Of course the SWISS CENTRE in Piccadilly was always arthouse central in the 90s but that’s now the horrifying dystopian hell that is M&M’S WORLD :gross:
 
Oh yes, I’m not a huge fan of Curzon, but again they seem to be heading for more mainstream stuff anyway these days. I’m a BFI and Prince Charles member but that’s usually best for classic old films.

I always forget about the ICA as I’ve only been there once or twice. Looking now though and the show times of most films are ludicrously inconvenient for anyone who has a job.
 
The ICA is great because you hardly ever get anybody eating in there. Mind you, there was rustling during ‘Diamantino’ the other week (which I wasn’t that impressed by, so I can see why someone was seeking distraction in sandwiches)
 
I would go to Rich Mix as they have the odd thing on and it’s just down the road, but the name (for whatever inexplicable reason) makes me feel so sick that I can’t even

Actually the times ARE a bit weird. Quite a lot of the films in the evening seem to start at 20:00 or thereabouts which I just can’t be bothered with

I can report that ‘Madeline’s Madeline’ is indeed arthouse EXTREME. It only gets 7/10 though, as there was a lot of handheld business which always makes me feel nauseous, not to mention the camera persistently going in and out of focus :wired:
 
Anyway back on the topic of HUNGARIAN HILARITY, for some reason Mr S wants to go and see SUNSET (if it's ever on anywhere more convenient than KNUTSFORD). LOVELY HATS I HEAR

It’s not what it seems, it’s very out there/makes no sense so be ready for a confusing 2 hours.
 
It's coming to my local CINEMA at the end of the month so I'm going to have to FORTIFY MYSELF and BRING MY KNITTING
 
I think some of the arthouse cinemas in the UK are following the BFI is doing a retrospective on some of Kore-eda's early films? Tonight I watched his first film, which was miserable and dark and beautiful and everything I wanted it to be.
 
I saw The Souvenir with Tilda’s daughter. It was fine but I’m burned out on addiction stories, I just don’t feel sympathy anymore.
 
So I've just been to see Sunset. Mr W was quite shocked that I'd watched all HOURS of it without having the faintest idea what was going on. That's ARTHOUSE darl!
 
I want to see Christian Petzold’s ‘Transit’ today as I’ve got a surprise day off but none of the screening times exactly meet my requirements. I feel quite sure that this isn’t at all metaphorical :side-eye:
 
I do hope that ‘Transit’ isn’t as internal organ-drainingly dry as ‘Barbara’. I mean dear Christ I know it was meant to be emotionally arid, but surely there are limits. I wanted to scream by the end

and turned up the French drama with Deneuve and Binoche. WHAT

Just got to a particularly jolly part where there's a particularly HARD WINTER and all the babies die of DIPHTHERIA :disco:

I’m going to try and get some TIFF tickets tomorrow (if there’s any left for commoners like me). I’ve got my eyes on Instinct mainly.
 
Got tickets for Instinct (starring Carice Van Houten), Bacurau and Maria’s Paradise about a 1920s cult in Finland.
