Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection

Given that the Greatest Hits is a dead art in 2019 with only those 3CD "Gold" collections doing any numbers, this has still done very well. Her (adopted) National Treasure status is cemented now.

I don't think any of the Gold ones are doing real numbers - none of them seem to have any staying power. Still, how many other acts are even bothering to release GH now?

I imagine Queen's GH (and that's before we consider the movie soundtrack), ABBA Gold and Bob Marley's Legend will outsell all of them quite easily. Again.

Well, none of them have any streaming clout at all. On sales, the Belinda Carlisle one is #3 and its the one that has the most chance of sustaining so far. But yeah, GHs are a thing of the past.

1. Into the Blue
2. I Was Gonna Cancel
3. Chocolate
4. Did It Again
5. Some Kind of Bliss
6. Word is Out
7. If You Were With Me Now

9. Freemasons Megamix (I Should Be so Lucky, What Do I Have to Do?, Hand on Your Heart, Better the Devil You Know, Shocked, Step Back in Time, Confide in Me, On a Night like This, Your Disco Needs You, Spinning Around, Love at First Sight, Can't Get You out of My Head, Slow, The One, All the Lovers, Dancing)

"Oh shit, we forgot Into The Blue."

"Ah crap."

"It's ok, bung it on an extra disc."

"What, like after everyone has already bought it so they have to buy another copy?"

"Of course. Oh and I know what will make the fans really want to buy it again: I Was Gonna Cancel!"

While this is ALL QUITE TRUE, I know I'll be SPUNKING SNOWFLAKES when I get my hands on it

And I haven't bought the original, for this very reason :D

I Was Gonna Cancel :D

It's No Secret :D

And poor old Finer Feelings still ain't good enough to make the cut.

No, bollocks to any "megamix", not biting. But the DVD/live album thingy looks more promising, price depending (cos, srsly, who needs the CDs?)

The Amazon listing which prompted talk of the Step Back In Time reissue has been deleted!

I wish they’d do a third disc so they could be properly comprehensive and whack any remixes on a fourth. It’s surely going to be a fan only purchase ANYWAY by this point...

That cover is fucking RANK.

Is it some sort of painting (:D)?

There’s a look of Jill Tyrell (the original, not the Peter Kay fictionalist) in one of her lovely Beauty By Jill promo pics. I’m not sure whether that warrants a :disco: or a :side-eye:

So there's still some omissions from her singles even with those extra tracks:

Finer Feelings, Where Is The Feeling, Better Than Today are the glaring ones. The former two for sure over I Was Gonna Cancel and It's No Secret. I thought she LIKED Finer Feelings. I mean, the single version is even produced by Steve Anderson who she's consistently worked with since.

Giving You Up as well, an actual top ten hit. A few oddities would have been nice as well (SKIRT) but the rest of the charting singles, maybe one more from Golden (Music's Too Sad) and then a shorter megamix would have been quite straightforward.

No one needs a megamix anyway. Full Freemasons mixes of certain songs would be much more fun...

Still no Giving You Up? Fuck this shit!

And no new artwork either? What's the actual incentive to buy here? It's just completionism which is really taking the piss out of hardcore fans. I'm actually a bit against these multicopy purchase tactics constantly used by BMG.

If they want a second dip, they need to go for one of those 4 disc book packages but they've already spunked that format on the original release.

Who even LISTENS to megamixes? Andrea Berg always insists on including them on her deluxe edition albums but then every song sounds more or less the same anyway so it’s basically just one long song (which I never bother listening to) :side-eye:

They are very big on the WOO GARY DAVIES radiogram show

Only because it gives him more time to disappear to the lav for a flick through his maquillaged twink pics I should imagine :side-eye:

Sorry, hang on, Gary Davies still has a radio show? *Googles* Blow me down, on Radio 2 as well...AND doing stand-ins! Well, you live and learn.

Yes, he took that show over from Sara Cox. Obviously THRILLED for her promotion, but that's one lousy exchange.

Gary Davies is on Radio 2? Those TOTP repeats have served him well.

I don't mind the odd megamix. I like the Saturdays one and the Corona one is a real good treat.

I see the three disc version is up on Amazon now with the same leaked tracklist, so there go any hopes for some last minute improvements.

I see you can now get a Step Back In Time watch for a mere £450 in her store. In fairness it’s a Bamford watch, but I think I’ll pass.

Chatting and performing (a 'special version' of Slow, apparently) on Graham Norton on November 22nd.
