Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection

I wonder if it's the one cut with "Fashion" from the tour? Promo for the DVD set?

More Christmas promo :disco:

Fresh from her Glastonbury legends slot triumph and a raft of sold our tour dates throughout the world, the quintessential pop princess Kylie Minogue will cap off a Golden 2019 as the subject of a very special secret night this December on Channel 4.

A must see spectacular, Kylie’s Secret Night, produced by BBC Studios, will allow viewers to celebrate with Kylie like never before. The 90-minute programme, filmed in front of an audience of passionate – and unsuspecting – fans will see a specially invited audience arrive for what they believe is a Kylie themed fan extravaganza hosted by Alan Carr. Little do they know they’re going to be spending a secret evening with the lady herself…

Over the course of the show Kylie will treat her guests to the ultimate thank you through heartfelt and hilarious conversation with Alan, memorable performances, surprise money can’t buy gifts, hidden camera VTs and laugh out loud stunts.

Throughout the episode, we’ll hear from a cross section of Kylie fans who will regale her and the audience with moving, uplifting and heart-warming tales of how she’s touched their lives including inspirational Barnsley music teacher and superfan Simon who runs Kylie music classes for adults with learning difficulties. He got the shock of his life recently when a surprise guest made at an appearance at one of their rehearsals.

Some very special fans will be joining Kylie on the night including a select group of people who’ve been named in homage to her and some very shocked people will also be taking a cab share trip like no other.

Encouraged to do so by Alan and the audience, Kylie will also reveal which of her tracks is her personal favourite and there may well be some surprises of her very own in store too.

And if that’s not enough of a treat then immediately after the show ends, Channel 4 will be showing the UK television premiere of Kylie’s smash hit Golden tour. Packed full of incredible hits, spectacular visuals and fabulous choreography, we’ll see just why she’s the original pop princess.

Kylie Minogue said,This was such an incredible show. It made me laugh, it made me cry. It was like time stood still and I was able to hear some amazing fan stories, reminisce and really take stock of the journey we’ve been on together. All in all, a wonderful celebration, and a reminder of what a privilege it is to be able to connect with people over time and borders and to inspire me to do it all again!”

Steven Handley, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment at Channel 4 added, “Kylie Minogue is the ultimate pop icon and we couldn’t be more chuffed to be working with her and Alan Carr on what promises to be appointment to view television for fans and viewers alike. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll definitely sing along – there really will be something for everyone.”

Lee Smithurst, Series Editor at BBC Studios said, “We’re delighted to be collaborating with Kylie on what promises to be a must-see extravaganza. The combination of pop music royalty and Alan Carr means Kylie’s Secret Night will be a fantastic night of music and comedy. As well as performing some of her most memorable hits and getting up close and personal with her biggest fans, we’ll also get to see Kylie like never before as she fools unsuspecting members of the public with some entertaining hidden camera pranks.”

Kylie’s Secret Night is a BBC Studios production and was commissioned by Steven Handley, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment at Channel 4. The Executive Producer for BBC Studios is Kat Lennox and the Series Editor is Lee Smithurst. Kylie’s Secret Night will TX later this year on Channel 4.

I don't know if it's usual for the BBC to produce for 4, but 4 commissions everything, doesnt it? As in it's broadcaster, but doesnt produce anything itself. So I assume it can commission from wherever it wants - although how that works with the licence fee I've no idea.

Hopefully the Alan Carr programme is better than it reads. I assume the Golden show will be edited as they are releasing the DVD.

Can't say I'm surprised. It's not so much a 'mix' as a series of edits slammed into each other.

Of course it's shit, how much effort do you think went into it? They couldn't do a disc that completed her singles catalogue because (a) they'd get slated for not doing it in the first place and (b) it would essentially be triple-dipping. They couldn't put new songs on it because they'd have been slated for that. So what do you get - a rubbish "megamix" that might pass muster at 11pm at an office Xmas party but in no other circumstance.

I don't think it needed to be that at all. The Freemasons have done some great stuff with her in the past- I think everyone expected it to be a remixmegamix rather than just megamix which, let's face it, is not very 2019.

I'm not really one for remixes in the first place I suppose. I like mash-ups, like the CGYOOMH/Blue Monday one or the Slow/Fashion one from the Golden tour.

She looks fucking amazing on Graham Norton. Is she going to release this version of Slow or this promotion for absolutely nothing?

Just caught up on Graham Norton. That mix remains tremendous, she looked incredible and it was great to have a different kind of tv performance than she has done in a while:

Oh hang on the Slow/ The One remix is :disco:

Oh YES, though that's like the one bit they made an effort with (and it could have done with being a bit longer).

I know the shittiness of this re-release has been discussed at length but it is amazing just how half arsed it all is. It wouldn't have been thrilling but they could have lost I Was Gonna Cancel and It's No Secret, bunged on Finer Feelings, Where is the Feeling, Giving You Up and Better Than Today which would have left plenty of space for a shitty megamix and at least covered all her UK top 40 hits except Higher and Santa Baby (though being the season I am almost surprised they didn't stick that one on).

So is there anywhere to stream/buy that version of Slow?!

Perhaps there might be some kind of licensing issues but if they can they really should make it available.
It's utterly ridiculous to perform something on TV that nobody can buy?!

here's a mini mix for i'm not sure what purpose other than to remind you of how much good stuff kylie has put her name to over the years.

:eyes: at no come into my world or in your eyes.

Better!

I really need that One/ Slow mashup in FULL. We deserve it!

Not only are the Alan Carr thing and Golden tour highlights on Channel 4 on 25th December but at the same time BBC2 are showing her Glastonbury performance.

QUEEN OF CHRISTMAS :disco:

Had the Greatest Hits really only sold 100k? I know we live in an era where they are a bit redundant but it really feels like they had to do a lot to get those sales.

100k in a world where not only are sales in the toilet but GH are pretty redundant is a spectacularly good result, no?

I’d say in this playlist era that’s a good result as I know several, including myself, who didn’t bother with this collection as one new track wasn’t sufficient for me to buy old rope.

I didn't bother with it either. I imagine there is a small cohort with it multiple times though.

I can see what SDF is saying, but yes, with GHs being redundant and sales through the toilet, expectations need to be significantly lowered.

I imagine it's probably top 40 of the year, isn't it? And I expect higher still on sales only.

Yeah, I think in the current climate, with GHs being a dead duck, 100k is more than decent for an album of songs that have, in the main, already been compiled multiple times before.
