Madonna claims she has antibodies and is going to 'breathe in the COVID-19 air'

It feels like any major pop star or diva who spans a career of 20+ years ends up with some kind of complex. Because their peaks were so iconic, anything past their peak inevitably becomes dismissed and ridiculed.

Dolly and her iconic peaks seem to have done alright too.

Tbh I don't think Madonna has gone nutty. I think she's out of touch, arrogant and enjoys being provocative and while those have all been part of the charm, it doesn't really play well in the age of the Instagram story. She'd be better off taking a step back from the socials like fellow megalomaniac Beyonce has always done.

Everyone loves Cher. People are incredibly fond of / concerned about Britney. Mariah's rebrand to Christmas / meme queen has been very successful. Some queens quietly stan Janet. Céline is everyone's favourite batshit-crazy aunt, living her best life post spousal-death. Kylie, amongst Brit and Aussie gays, remains an angelic figure.

Madonna is the ONLY 80-90s "diva" to be so reviled these days.

Doesn't she think VEGAS is beneath her too?

Get ready for the new residency announcement. To include a stand up section of course.

You can just FEEL Renee Zellweger rubbing her hands together in lockdown thinking of her next biopic opportunity, can't you

.

Yes agreed. Cher, Kylie, Dolly, Celine, Tina, the list goes on..

But I'm also talking about the music. I hate it when people say "Stop making music. You had a good run, now pack it up and call it a day". When in reality, a lot of them continue to make excellent post-peak music. Kylie, Mariah and Dolly especially.

Technically she’s not had any bad album, it’s just that the last four were so bad by her standards, but would also have sounded much better with someone else’s voice.

Again, they only say that about Madonna (and mostly because for the last decade, she has insisted on collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Diplo which did her no favours). New Cher music is always warmly received by online gays; Caution gave Mariah her best reviews since Emancipation; Janet's recent album announcement earned positive buzz (after her previous album was a critical hit). I would argue that 2020 is the best time to be an "ageing diva" for everyone EXCEPT Madonna since about 2000.

MDNA had some great moments (Falling Free, Love Spent); Rebel Heart was dire; Madame X... overrated - I only kept God Control.

Confessions was her last end-to-end great album.

Yeah, MDNA is not a good album full stop. It’s not TERRIBLE, but it’s really, really average.

The problem is that for every brilliant thing she still does, there’s a horrific misfire. Ghosttown vs Bitch, I’m Madonna, if you will.

I agree with the Confessions bit, but Madame X is very good. I go back to it a lot.

The fact that she thinks Bitch, I'm Madonna is THE era-defining song of the last decade says it all.

There's enough to LIKE on her post-Music albums, but the only one I would rate as comparable to her 80s and 90s work quality is Confessions.

I think time will be very kind to Madame X, after the AMAZING/amazingly messy tour I have a lot more love for it.

It could have done with a bit of pruning, but there is a strong, cohesive piece of work there - I just have to be in the right mood to listen to it :D

I have no interest in buying the vinyl for MDNA which says it ALL. Even I’m Addicted which I thought was wonderful at the time sounds a bit tinny and cheap these days. I do have a soft spot for the hot trash of Girl Gone Wild however :D

I’m Addicted was my favourite but it hasn’t aged well at all, you’re right.

I still love Masterpiece.

I like "Some Girls", "Falling Free", "Turn up the Radio" and "Masterpiece" :shy:

Never got the universal dislike of TUTR.

Sorry but Girl Gone Wild is not shit. It's a solid dance track with a great hook.

I still love I'm Addicted but I wish she was LOUDER in it, especially at the beginning.

I think Crave is my favourite post-Confessions song.

Of course we have had threads about this, but MDNA, like Rebel Heart, had amazing moments and contrasting shite moments, but it was not a bad album.

All of the tracks mentioned are sublime, especially Masterpiece and Love Spent. However I see no nod for 'I Fucked Up' which despite its title, is mature Madge at her best.

I forget, was that a deluxe track? I know Beautiful Killer was, which itself stands well next to the likes of 'Don't Tell Me'

Hancock Pancock

I should have kept that one to myself because on a scale of one to ten, it's about a minus three but I;m having fun now.
