Best vocalists from 90s-00s pop groups

As VoR posted, no one else in All Saints could have carried off The Burt Bacharach song but then Natalie's voice is the most suited to that style.

I'm sorry but she sounds flat in that performance (and I do actually quite like her).

She's certainly NO Karen Carpenter. I found that comparison hilarious.

I love how no one answered the original question.

I don’t know about best vocalist, but out of the bunch I’d say Bunton and the two POC Sugababes maybe have the most pleasant vocals.

And I agree with VoR on All Saints; the other two sound too nasal and whiney.

Disappointed at the lack of Kym Marsh in this thread :(
Agreed and this level of slander will not be tolerated

I would like to say that I
Never meant to make you cry
I think about you every day
No matter what your friends might say

Oh I am fascinated by this twist on the Mandela Effect giving some people the impression that Natalie Appleton could ever be regarded as anything more than 'one of the other two', never mind the BEST SINGER

I ranked them! :oi:

I can’t remember the Appleton sisters getting more than the odd solo line here and there during the All Saints heyday. It was all about Melanie and Shaznay for the vocals.

The Appletons were just there to get the band into the tabloids and celebrity gossip magazines.

I only know that because I picked up their TELL ALL book about EVIL SHAZ AND MEL forcing one of them to abort Robbie Williams' baby, from a charity shop once.

I agree with whoever said that All Saints and Sugababes feel more like ensemble vocalists rather than relying on someone specific to bring the vox credibility to a song

I also agree with @VoR that Natalie has the best voice of All Saints. Not the most recognisable but based on singing live, it’s definitely Natalie. Shaznay is probably the best known and Mel has a lovely tone on record, but she could be ropey live back in the day. Saying that I’ve seen them live twice in the last 5 years and they have definitely improved with age, they didn’t put a foot wrong the entire gig. Although I’m still not convinced Nicole doesn’t mime the entire time. She never has any solo parts except the speaking bits!

It would probably have exited the womb being noisy, pretending to be heterosexual and demanding a BiG BAND so I can see where they were coming from

I’m sure they’re lovely IRL (:)) but the Appletons always had a look and vibe of two grabby groupies who somehow got lucky with a record deal. I did quite like this though, for whatever reason

I agree with @Beverley. Mutya's tone is everything. I think that texturally, Mutya and Mel B are my favourite British girlband vocalists. Easther Bennett being, of course, the best technical vocalist, in terms of range, power and resonance.

We probably need another topic on favourite voices, although for what it's worth I would probably always go with Imperial Era Mariah and mid-late 90s Lauryn Hill, whose tone and texture is just *chef's kiss*

Emma absolutely has the best voice in Spice Girls. It's difficult to compare to Mel C who is technically better, for sure, but they're so different. Mel C's voice is perfect for what she does with it (i.e. ad libs) but solo albums can grate.
Mel C is a much better technical singer than Emma!

I don't think it can even be argued. Emma has a pretty voice but it's completely unremarkable. Mel's can grate but she is a lot better at pretty much everything.

Disagree, it's pretty and also very strong! She stands out a lot to me in the group melodies. (As does Menly)

It is definitely nice but Mel could sing everything she's ever done with just as much technical skill if not more.

Obviously that's disregarding personal preffz

Emma stands out because in all of their songs her voice was mixed/mastered on top. It always had me fuming.
