This was a GREAT way to hear the album, lambz :emoji_poodle::emoji_poodle::emoji_poodle::emoji_poodle::emoji_poodle::emoji_poodle::emoji_poodle:

I think her fandom genuinely has a special connection. Like its a thing that people either want to be in on or they think we're ludicrous. Its not like other loon fans. Lest we forget Mariah named her fans like 15 years before it was a thing. Maybe someone should do some research papers on why people find the LAMBILY :D

What I WILL say is that Out Here On My Own is absolutely sublime in the context of this album. Slipping Away is the 4th Daydream single that got away, but with those lyrics we understand why.

The Asian Beauties were problematic even back in 2001 but by God they were funny :disco: :shy:

Sungggguh!!!! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!! UH HUH Uh UH BABY!!!

God remember when white queens could get away with writing things like ihihihihihihihi Janet forum redecorate like luxury bathroom

To think that was a time when Janet was the world's biggest diva, Marge was cool af and Mariah and Whitney were flailing. What a difference twenty years makes.

I just realised that Mesmerized also interpolates Firecracker! Meta queen. Unafraid to reference or not reference.

Does it?! :o

Do we have the little notes she has beside each song in the booklet yet?

I mean, I hear the "I want it, I want it, I need it, I need it" melody line in the chorus of Mesmerized - I assume that comes from Firecracker, rather than her own Loverboy melody?

The quantum power of Mariah to create a temporal paradox wherein both versions of Loverboy can be called the original :emoji_scales:

I had my own listening party this morning and honestly I am spoiled. I don’t think I’ll recover from the treat she has bestowed on us.

The myth. The legend. The chanteuse.

I need to listen again with headphones to envelop my ears and digest every lyrical morsel like thIs Michelin starred cuisine deserves.

What a time to be a lamb.

OK SO

which ones are the BOPS (uptempos) I can dive into this morning?

OMG! One Night is an absolute BOP! pure joy :disco: how did this not make Daydream?!

Preliminary rate:

08 Here We Go Around Again - I would have loved to hear Whitney on this
07 Can You Hear Me? - she's more vocals than melody, but we love to hear it
09 Do You Think of Me? - like a girl you knew from afar in the gym but now she's in your friendship circle
11 Everything Fades Away - we already stanned; we had no choice etc.
07 All I Live For - a cute girl but not the best Marianasieff moment
08 One Night - a cute Waterfalls moment; I always appreciate those layered 90s gospel-ish vocals. @funky will stan.
10 Slipping Away - I wish this had made it onto Daydream, it would have tipped the balance and turned it into an actual R&B album. God, actually, imagine if she took out Open Arms and When I Saw You and replaced them with this and One Night? It would have SLAPPED the fuck out of us 10-15yo urban-oriented queens.
11 Out Here On My Own - I just love it; "I may not win; but I can't be thrown" is one of my favourite Mariah moments in years
16 Loverboy (True, Stolen Version) - When he ask me over, I cum every time *hymen snaps* WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
06 I Pray - the kind of song you expect "I wrote it for a competition winner on Oprah" to be
07 Cool On You - could be a grower, the vocal damage seems most evident here though, but it's E=MC era so what were we expecting?
09 Mesmerized - the best of the latter-day tracks; could easily have replaced some stuff on Elusive Chanteuse. She was really confused during this time about what direction to pursue....
07 Lullaby of Birdland - I mean, what can I say, it's better than the Gags jazz album
08 Save The Day - I was underwhelmed at first, but now I kind of love its messiness and I will never not love hearing Mariah sing that la-la-Lauryn part
09 Close My Eyes - cute re-do, but the original remains the definitive

All I Live For is fantastic.

she sounds pretty good on Mesmerized, but it would have been wildly out of place on Elusive Chanteuse. a nice song without being a great one.

Cool On You is really dull.

You don't hear it? The Jackson 5 influence is obvious, but something about the vocal delivery gives me early Whitney.

Ohh I thought you were implying that Mariah singing it wasn't enough for you...that you wanted Whitney to sing it. Yes I totally see what you mean actually! Her vocal has that early Whitney bounce and effervescence!

I thought the story was that Slipping Away was rejected from Daydream but why is it labelled 1996?

And therein goes my endorsement.

Adding to my Friday evening listenage.
