The alcoholic kind.

So over the last two years I've been working on building up my collection of spirits based on recommendations and trying them myself (OBVS). I've become kind of geeky about it and now have at least 8 GINS and 6 VODKAS on the go as well as bourbons, ryes, single malts, blends, Japanese Whiskys, vermouths (technically not a spirit but still) spiced RUMS, mixer RUMS and TRIPLE SECS in my drinks cupboard. My current obsession is sipping quality Reposado and Añejo tequilas. Tequila is possibly the worlds GREATEST SPIRIT.

Any other moopy people care about what they are drinking and do you have any recommendations? Spill here.

I like them all. They like me less.

I don't drink enough spirits to warrant buying them to have at home.

I've always dreamed of having a WELL STOCKED liquer cabinet, but unfortunately the bottles never last LONG ENOUGH in my house.

I've lusted after one ever since Nigella showed off hers.

I have every intention of taking pictures of my pride and glory and posting them (as well as my pantry porn in another thread)

My friend runs a spirits Meetup group and since lockdown we've been doing tasting nights via Zoom, usually using samples from Master of Malt (BEST WEBSITE EVER)

I have been a fan of gin and whisky for a long time now anyway but thanks to these nights I recently got into dark rum as well. I'm afraid I still can't bear tequila though. I had one Añejo that was OK but not enough to warrant a bottle. I DID however discover that I like mezcal.

Vodka is fine but I wouldn't buy it to sip unless it was a flavoured one. Still don't like American whiskey/bourbon/rye. SCOTCH or JAPANESE whisky please and the peatier the better.

Our next online meetup is infusing our own shiz at home. I'm trying 5 different things in vodka :basil:

Pretty much exactly what Kate just said, except for gin.

Love a single malt whisky and I have a few bottles at home. Dark rum is also lush.

I was annoyed recently when I bought my friend a £50 bottle of tequila for his birthday and he threw the whole lot in a punch bowl with 3 cartons of Prince's pineapple juice and 2 grams of MDMA.
that is DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR.

also sad that I wasn't AT THAT PARTY.

Ooh Kate. I'm expecting you to be an avid contributor to this thread. Keep us updated.

Oh and I'm with you on the Whisky vs Whiskey debate but I do also like bourbons and ryes too. You can't make an Old Fashioned without one.

Mezcal is nice but I find you have to pay a pretty penny for a decent one.

my absolute favourite spirit is:

and my favourite DRINK is a BLACK RUSSIAN, but most places don't know how to/won't do that so I usually take a White Russian instead. also:

in its OG form - have not tried this new Velvet flavour yet but I'm TEMPTED

and of course the EVER RELIABLE GO-TO

Is it annoying that some people will not refer to Disaronno as amaretto when that's absolutely what it is.

I think I would quite enjoy being the person whose JOB involves taking SEXY PHOTOGRAPHS of LICQUER BOTTLES in SUNNY CLIMES!

most people I've spoken to don't even KNOW ABOUT DISARONNO. and probably wouldn't enjoy if they did. silly cunts.

Now cocktails are a slightly separate thing. Not a fan of dark spirits in a cocktail - I'd rather just have it neat. But vodka/gin cocktails YES ALL DAY PLEASE.

Have you tried an Old Fashioned? I'm certain you'd like it.

But then I'm a fan of a Negroni too and that makes a lot of people GAG.

Yes, they're Mr Kate's favourite. They're OKAY but I would never choose one. I do like a Negroni though. Gin not whiskey see!

That bottle always reminds me of The Botanist gin (which is a favourite btw).

The fact it tasted more like a whisky than a tequila :D Due to the barrels I guess.

Basically I can't stand the tequila-y smell/flavour that everything else has. I don't know if this is a ME thing cos no-one ever seems to know what I'm talking about. But that Maestro Dobel doesn't have it. You wouldn't know you were drinking a tequila.

Most Añejos are aged in whisky barrels though.

To me they are as complex as single malts if not more so!

I just went back to check what's in MoM's tequila tasting set and I did actually have that Vivir one! Didn't like it, sorry :(

Mezcal is also made from agave so it can't be the agave you have an aversion to.

Could it be that you just had too many cheap tequila shooters when you were younger?
