The Funky Friday Afterparty - "The Armada Of Groove" Friday 16.10.20 **8.15PM**

Right

the Black Light BIG FOUR are coming up in a second. Brace yourself, kids.

somehow I never connected that Roisin's Andy Cato was GA's Andy Cato :D wow. THE PEDIGREE.

You Know Me Better is probably one of my 10 favourite songs of all time. It's soundtracked various phases of my life quite religiously in the last 13 years. Electropop perfection - those flippant BLIPS and BLOPS popping off under her WISTFUL vocals! oh it's really all just TOO MUCH.

I was actually flagging a bit, but I've been perked up a bit!

(I'm planning to dip out when it gets to the new album, but I WILL catch up on it)

8. I Won't Kneel

the first single from Black Light, which might actually be the greatest dance album of the past decade.

I'd also have to say that if I had to choose the greatest pop song of the 21st Century, I'd say a 3 way tie between Shura's "Touch", Solange's "Losing You" and this. It's just that good.

Featuring the extensive talents of Saint Saviour, who deserved to be massive on the back of this album, but she's sunk into folk music and not really getting any success. Shame.

I don't think I've heard this before. They'd rather stopped having singles success by this time and I never quite found a reason to investigate. I think I like it.

I vaguely remember being briefly obsessed with I Won't Kneel at the time and then forgetting about it. which has nothing to do with the quality and probably everything to do with shifting from iTunes to streaming and losing a lot of good shit

It's fucking BLINDING. the chorus makes me feel ALL WARM

9. Shameless

I debated including this as it's a bit of a comedown after "I Won't Kneel", but it's just beyond stunning. Featuring an inspired Bryan Ferry cameo, this is another of the Big 4 Black Light pop tracks, which set the album apart.

speaking in sexy subdued French on a sweaty disco track is a surefire way to TURN ME ON

and also how ahead of its time was this song/album?

the new wave / synth wave vibes, and it's from 2010...

both of the Black Light tracks so far have gone straight into multiple playlists

10. Paper Romance

The other single co-penned with Saint Saviour and featuring her on co-vocals with someone i don't know, this is almost as good as it's predecessor, and that's a huge compliment, anchored again by it's absolutely massive chorus.

DON'T WANNA TAKE A CHANCE ON YOUR PAPER ROMANCE

ANYWAY

I love the lyrics of this song.

Fenech-Soler are great, although I don't think I've had any cause to think of them for quite a few years now.

According to YouTube this was massive on Fifa 11. I mean who knew.

Saint Saviour brought SPARKS to this project that's for sure. shame it all fizzled out on her own...

11. History

It's absolutely criminal that this song doesn't have a video. Possibly Will Young's best ever song and I don't say that lightly. What a vocal performance.

I mean yes it's a total Bronski Beat rip off. But WHAT a rip off.

I don't know if I've heard History before but I'm certainly curious (and surprised he hasn't featured on more dance tracks). great start

I spent about the first minute of this song thinking that Will Young was ruining it, but now I'm not so sure. It's starting to work for me.
