Taylor Swift - folklore [New Album]

Well, it looked like it from here.

you misunderstood me there. no one is pitching women against each other. we are pitting them against each other. please don't make me have to explain my jokes again. :amlife:

in other news, this is me trying is my favorite album track of 2020. it even trumps The Kill. the cadence of vulnerability in at least i'm trryyiiin' and the oomph in i was so AHEAD OF THE CURVE, the CRUVE BECAME A SPHERE does things to my poor, poor hymen.

If Taylor Swift is "massive in the UK", then how would you term Adele's success? Or Gaga's? Do you realise that Gaga sold more in the UK of her first two albums than Taylor Swift's 8 albums? She's popular...NOT massive.

Taylor is massive, I think female artist that can sell out STADIUMS over here like Wembley Stadium is 'massive' - both in her chart success now and culturally. Might not be at the level of the US, but yes Adele and Gaga have been beyond massive if you ask me and not really comparable.

Oh so “Betty” isn’t a lesbian song, she’s singing from the perpective of a man.
Disappointing
(I’m sure this was buried in page 3 or something and is news to nobody)

Betty is a nice song, but I struggle to get past how mind-blowingly rude the central conceit of turning up uninvited to somebody's party in an attempt to fix a fight is. :D

So there's Betty and her once-errant bloke all over each other like a rash in one corner while VoR discusses the "optics" of his approach in the other.

On-brand. :eyes:

Although I can’t shake the fact that it sounds near identical to ‘Should’ve Known Better’ by Sufjan Stevens.

Jark cancelled for skipping "this is me trying".

What I've found is that the sequence from "this is me trying" through to the end works an absolute treat (although I'd be tempted to swap "epiphany" and "peace"). It's a few of the tracks in the first half that are a bit too generic (like "mirrorball").

For me it's all about that middle section. Seven -> This Is Me Trying is an amazing trio of songs. Fairly certain August is my favourite of the whole albam.

It peters off towards the end I find, but it's all still brilliant.

Still loving this album and listening to it regularly. Definitely my favourite of hers though it has led me to (re-)discover LOVER, REPUTATION and 1989.

Let it be known that 2020 is the year I became a Taylor Swift fan proper (i.e. stan).

the top ten is pretty on point and includes all the absolute essentials - Woods, All Too Well, State of Grace, dynasty, Cruel Summer :disco: taste!

On certain days 'Cruel Summer' is my Tay Tay no. 1 and one of my favourites by anyone ever.

The point they make about it being the lead single really hits home for me. I can’t believe it never was a single at all, but it would have been the perfect lead.

Absolutely. It's just SO GOOD and we could have had digital/limited physical maxi singles with PROPER remixes :disco:

Cardigan is really crying out for some poppers o'clock gay remixes - I'm thinking Purple Disco Machine, Tensnake, SG Lewis :disco: omg it has to happen!

Ooh "The Lakes" is my latest revelation.

Tonight's TS song of choice is I Almost Do

I bet you think I either moved on or hate you,
Cause each time you reach out there's no reply.
I bet it never, ever occurred to you
That I can't say hello to you
And risk another goodbye.
:(

Folklore becomes the first album to sell 1 million copies (pure sales) in America in 2020. Here is a breakdown of sales for each album:

Taylor Swift (2006, 5.75 million sold to date),
The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection (2007, 1.08 million)
Fearless (2008; 7.21 million)
Speak Now (2010, 4.71 million)
Red (2012, 4.49 million)
1989 (2014, 6.25 million)
Reputation (2017, 2.28 million)
Lover (2019, 1.22 million)
Folklore (2020, 1.04 million)

Quite sexy sales

what are those figures @POP!? the Lover and Folklore numbers seem to be pure sales but the others (Rep, 1989) are SPS or pure sales a well?

I believe they are all hard/pure sales only per Soundscan. 1989 was reported as selling 6.2m by the end of 2019 and made #3 on decade's top sellers. Its SPS (streaming, album equivalent sales etc) is at over 9 million apparently.
