As much as I despise them, especially Sam Gyimah who completely ratfucked Emma Dent Coad in Kensington, we'll regrettably need them to hold onto their handful of affluent seats to eventually get a hung parliament.

To pick a kernel of sweetcorn from this turd of a result, the majority of the country voted pro-remain/PV, and the Tory vote share was only 1% higher.

I will continue to wish every possibly tropical disease on anyone who voted Johnson because they ‘couldn’t bear to vote for Corbyn’, and I so dearly want to pop round to Darren Grimes’ house and kick him repeatedly in the spine.

Oh don´t get me wrong it´s fucked and completely baffling to me that people would consider the Tory party and it´s leader(in 2019 more than anypoint in the last 50 years) to actually be the lesser of two evils(I mean....:manson:), but thanks to the bastion of "unbiased" media coverage in the UK amongst various other influences that is where we are. :(

It’s one year since this shit tip of an election today.

#YouthQuake

Would any of you have voted different? My politics are certainly more aligned to the Greens these days but I’m in a lean Conservative seat so would still vote Labour.

If this year has told us anything, it's BROADBAND COMMUNISM and NATIONALISED SAUSAGES are the future.

I voted Labour as a marriage of convenience last year, I'd vote for them on principle this year because Starmer is the best shot at a half-decent PM we've had in years.

If there is an IndyRef next year or in 2022, and it passes, the 2024 election would be fascinating!

I'm currently reading this, and before the Corbyn stans start on me YES, I know it isn't gospel. But it's a very interesting / depressing account of just how terminally dysfunctional the Labour party actually was under his leadership.

I'd actually say he himself doesn't come out of it *that* badly TBH. Mostly it just underlines my main frustration with him, in that he broadly meant well but was fucking useless at being a party leader.

I stopped paying my membership about six months ago but I'd still vote Labour.

I can imagine the idea of an election without Scotland would be a nightmare for Starmer's chances of electoral victory, but my dad's Scottish so NOT MY PROBLEM.

IT WAS RELEVANT TO THE CONVERSATION :oi:

No, but it’s all just a bit “oh I know the Corbynistas will moan at me, and I’m not entirely against him, but...*INSERT MASSIVE ANTI-CORBYN RANT*”

IT’S TEDIOUS. He’s gone. Move on.

I also wish to say the same to Momentum, I might add...

The math seems IMPOSSIBLE without Scotland

It’s going to be WEIRD if we end up with 591 constituencies

The fascinating thing this, we wouldn't leave instantly, so that 2024 general would include Scottish seats too, so the SNP could be in a position of propping up the government whilst also negotiating to leave the UK. If they didn't like things, they could bring it down! It could be amazingly batshit insane

That's fascinating. Weird political situations seem to be getting more and more common

@WeihnachZenGiraffe is there any way that the SNP can get Indyref2 through under the current government though? Surely Boris and co can block it with their insane majority?

As for whether I would change my vote, no. Right now, don’t see me voting for anything other than Labour ever.

Yes, maybe. There is a legal theory that the Scottish Parliament is the same parliament that enacted the Act of Union with England in 1707, and so would have the sole authority to repeal it. It is thought of as unlikely but not impossible that the supreme court would rule this way, but is the most common backup option I've seen talked about if the UK government doesn't allow a referendum like last time

I SUPPOSE it could turn out like Catalonia then? :eyes:

Well no. A sovereign decision by a sovereign Scottish parliament wouldn't be illegal, nor seen as such by international law. And with the UK breaking international law anyway, the international community wouldn't be rushing to take the UKs side
Oh GOOD! Let’s just hope the GUNSHIPS aren’t sent up from the Channel and onto the Clyde.

Hate this country so much right now. Full of absolute thick selfish cunts who deserve everything they get. I would still vote Labour but holding my nose.

Holding your nose? Why? Because voting for something that represents a compromise and could possibly be the start of a shift to the left is such a problem?

Labour have shown horrible disregard for trans rights for one thing. I can fully understand any reluctance to vote for them when "SIR KEIR" won't take steps to wipe out the growing TERF-ist strain of the party, which is in danger of becoming a bigger problem than the anti-semitism stuff was/is if unchecked.

What constituency do you live in (if you don't mind of course)?
.

I'm fully aware that voting Green won't make a difference, but I can't vote Labour in good conscience. That said I hope they win.

I appreciate that I'm in a pretty privileged position living in a country where Labour are basically out of the equation entirely, but if I wasn't I really don't think I could vote for them in good conscience at the moment. Having said that a lot of people now have the dream Labour Party they've spent the last several years trying to obtain, and I wish them the best of luck with it.
