TV Ratings 2020

I watched the new bit of Dibley last night and have to say I got a bit bored (especially when the kids popped up), which isn't ideal when it was only ten minutes long.

Last nights Dibley was the KYLIE episode too. She looked NATURAL and MAGESTIC.

Good grief.

2020. Pandemic. More solo Christmasses than ever. What do we get? Bradley Walsh twice.

Call The Midwife is still a (relative) hit but it can't have many years left in it. I only watched that and the Strictly best of from the top ten.

That’s absolutely awful for Christmas Day. Isn’t it?

Compared to last year

The Queen up 0.4m
Strictly down 0.7m
Call The Midwife up 0.2m
EastEnders down 1.7m
Coronation Street up 0.1m
Mrs Brown's Boys down 0.6m
Emmerdale down 0.5m

Why do you think it doesn’t have many years left? Is it not still one of the UK biggest rated shows?

I don’t think I have ever watched The Queen on Christmas Day.

I don't think I have since I was a child. And that was only waiting for TOTP or whatever was on after. It was never a tradition for me.

Not being a British native it was never a thing for us so I have never had the urge to watch. I don’t MIND the old crow, but I couldn’t listen to her for longer than 30 seconds.

Oh! Less awful than I imagined. I assumed Christmas Day ratings were usually a lot higher

Eastenders WAY down

Shame it's been very good recently :(

It is still a ratings puller, and they've done well with replacing key characters, but it definitely isn't as fresh and they must be into the late sixties now, and I can't see it going that far into the seventies.

If and when Sisters Monica Joan and Julienne go then it is definitely time to call it a day.

Edit: it has been renewed up to 2022, which apparently would be 1967, so not quite as far on as I thought.

Didn't that other popular Sunday night drama for pensioners Heartbeat manage to make the 60s last two decades?

I hope it lasts FOREVER. It is my absolute favourite and the only show now that still makes me feel warm and fuzzy while I watch it. I am glad to hear it has been renewed until 2021 and it still has a couple of seasons left. I think it still pulls in around 9 million viewers per week when the full season starts which is still big for this day and age.

Sister Monica Joan must be in her 80’s in real life now, and has been doolally since the first series. I love her.

“It’s pleasing to see the sensational adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People take top slot as the biggest series of the year and there have been other brand new drama series among the most popular, such as Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You, The Nest and The Secrets She Keeps as well as hugely popular returners like Killing Eve and The Split.

“Top comedy series was the third instalment of This Country and top entertainment series was MasterChef, with Strictly yet to complete its run. There’s a series waiting for us all on BBC iPlayer this Christmas and plenty of films to enjoy before the new year when we will be widening choice even further as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air returns to the BBC and Pretty Little Liars arrives for the first time.”

The most popular film over Christmas was Grease with 4.142m on Boxing Day.

Call The Midwife wasn’t top ratings on the daily’s after Christmas Day was it @lolly? What was?

The Queen's Speech wasn't even listed in the chart for the week. Strange. I know it was split between two channels, but it was overwhelmingly viewed on BBC1 and was watched enough on BBC1 alone to chart. It would have been #1 for the week combined. I doubt it had many viewers on catch up, but it would have managed it on live and VOSDAL alone anyway.

At least Lesley Joseph will have got good viewing figures in the second Sewing Bee, presumably.

I was pleasantly surprised when it returned to ITV, and enjoyed the newer seasons but that Christmas episode without Pauline Quirke was just UNCCECESSARY.
