I finally ordered the super deluxe vinyl of Abbey Road last night when I was bored in bed. A friend keeps telling me it's their masterpiece but I've been waiting til I find their albums until I get them with The Beatles and I've just never found it cheap enough. I'm excited for its arrival.

More importantly, WHY AM I BORED IN BED, MOOPY? WHY?
I actually don't have ANY Beatles on vinyl. Sacrilege, I know. I bought that remastered big comprehensive CD box set ages ago and it's just sat there collecting dust...

I have to say, I still ADORE the single version (Soulpower Mix as it's known) of Love Don't Live Here Anymore. It eternally annoys me they remixed it for Something To Remember and then again- I want the single mix on the album.

Well she couldn't have done that at the time because it also didn't have a video. Indeed, LDLHA was a lot later- the US clearly wouldn't release without a video so it was filmed when she was heavily pregnant and well after the campaign had ended in the UK. I wish we'd got it as a single, but I think it would have been her biggest miss to date to that point.
I love those super dated LDLHA remixes I have to say...

I've got 5 or 6, I think? Mostly from when I've bought collections off my friend who clears houses and I buy, clean, sell and keep some of the vinyl. I've got a few on CD and I've got that "US Albums" boxset which I picked up for £20 because it doesn't have the booklet in it.

OT: Juno Records has Rebel Heart on vinyl which, for some reason, I didn't get at the time, for £30. Copies are listed as having a "crease in the top left cover", but a FRIEND OF A FRIEND has bought "B Stock" as they are known (returns, basically) from them before and said there was fuck all wrong, so FINGERS CROSSED :disco:

I love the Soulpower ones but I don't really remember any of the others, but I don't recall the era being a golden one for remixes.

Playing STR now and one of the things that upsets me most with OUR MARGE is the ignorance of This Used To Be My Playground. It really is marvellous.

£30 is a pretty good price for Rebel Heart! And I doubt they'll be pressing more any time soon. I've not played the vinyl in ages (the album is such a slog let alone flipping 4 LP sides) but I seem to remember it being a decent pressing.

Indeed, why I went for it. I remember at the time not getting it thinking it would go cheap and LET'S FACE IT, most of her albums did and then suddenly that AND MDNA went out of stock FAIRLY close in time. I like Rebel Heart a fair amount, so I'll be glad to add it to the collection.

Yes I was going to post that in the 'songs that artists hate' thread. In a Madame X era interview with Billboard the interviewer points out that 'This Used to be my Playground' is her only No. 1 single that she has never performed live, and her response is literally nothing - a blank look to most, but to my loon eyes there was a brief nanosacond where she made the infamous 'much disgust' face that belied how she really felt about it..

My biggest regret is not getting the Celebration vinyl. I can't even remember why I didn't get it!? I think it just slipped my mind at the time...

I'm not bothered by a GH vinyl, but yes, I wish I had as well. I can live without it, though. I'd rather have GHV2 in fairness :disco:

Oooh YES PLEASE to GHV2 on vinyl :disco:

That reminds me actually, reissuing Remember on a single LP was so stupid..

I used to stan You'll See because I was a British girl who didn't get sultry gems. But these days, Take a Bow is that girl. I miss that chocolate mousse layered voice she had in the mid-90s.

Didn't she say she finds it too sappy? I think the guy from the Inside the Groove podcast mentioned it.

That would be Edward Russel (some of us remember him :eyes: ).

And no she didn't say it was sappy. Just that it was 'laidback'.

Actually he mentions 'I'll Remember', 'Playground' and 'Rescue Me' - the latter did end up on the tour (as an interlude :zombie: )

But my point is that when he's mentioning the songs, I always thought for a brief second she almost makes a face at 'Playground' specifically - 6:19 onwards:

Oh and the video didn’t fit the song at all, it is of course Oriental in its nature. And hence the outfits at the time, as my dear Suedey suggests.

The video is top notch, though. Delightfully bitchy MTV making of programme too (oh how I miss GOOD MTV- I’d love that channel back now) and in which she shows that she speak mimes the words for her videos rather than miming or singing them- probably cause she didn’t want to be caught on camera singing off key.

I think she looks totally stunning in that making of.

I've gotten the impression she doesn't like performing any of the "sappy" songs that seem retrospective or swan song ish (see also The Power of Goodbye). So I can see why she ignores TUTBMP and I'll Remember.

To be fair, I'll Remember IS A BIT SHIT but that is for another day...

The original release was a single LP as well.

To be honest, it’s not a bad pressing. And the original album over 4 sides would be shit. I hate 3 tracks on a side with standard length songs. Annoying.

Was he on Moopy? I quite like the deep dives he does, it's fascinating to hear the different layers in her songs.

Oh we all know TEDDYEDWARD. Desperate to be famous, tried all sorts- didn’t get try and launch Lauren Harries’ pop career once?

Also once slept with Mr Lolly, so he’s DONE IT ALL, really.

It’s also about her vocals. Let’s be fair about it, The Power of Goodbye is not going to be an easy song to sing. She sounds fragile enough on the recorded version.

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!

Oh it was more than once. They were an item when I first met him.

Thank god it wasn’t the other way around. Imagine the SHAME of being dumped for TEDDYEDWARD.

Is that podcast actually worthwhile? I listened to a couple and a) he annoyed me (but then that wasn’t a surprise and b) the two episodes I listened to (one was Vogue, I forget the other) were just him putting on a dramatic voice about some “exclusive” discovery or little known fact that I already knew. I gave up at that point.

To be honest, I concede I didn’t exactly go in with an open mind...

He didn't dump him for me. I met him again about 6 months or so later and it was over by then. They were only a thing for a couple of months.

Let’s face it, you couldn’t last longer. Imagine the ONE UPMANSHIP going on in the Abba department.

I got the same feeling from the couple I listened to. The one episode that I did find interesting was the one where he interviewed Tony Shimkin (but even that wasn't as revelatory as I thought it could/should be).

I don’t think he was THAT into Abba back then. I assume he was far more a Madonna loon.

Will you stop being so liberal and allow us our fantasies of them bumming whilst humming along to “Nina, Pretty Ballerina”.

I guess if you don't like the podcaster it's difficult to get over that hurdle. I found some episodes boring, but they got better after a while. I enjoyed the ones with Darren Hayes I have to admit :side-eye:

I mainly like the ones where he peels back the different musical layers and vocals. It's just interesting to hear how all of the elements build on each other.

If we're talking annoying Madonna podcasts I have to mention The Immaculate Podcast. I think some Moopy members like that one, but I think it's terrible. Especially when one of them thinks he has to show off his NOX singing his favourite M tunes
