FIRST IMPRESSION FESTIVALEN 2021

Time for THE REVEAL of our FIRST IMPRESSION 2021 Bjorkman-esque drawings #ingetstopparmello #melfest.

Släpp #1 - Charlotte Perrelli "Still Young"
Eo-Kbw9-CVEAMm-Kdv.jpg

Songwriters: Thomas G:son, Bobby Ljunggren, Erik Bernholm, Charlie Gustavsson
Tags: #Pop, #Dance, #Schlager, #Uplifting, #Ljunggren, #Coming_of_age
Likely draw: 4th in SF 4
Odds to Win: 5%
The song is called ‘Still young’ and in mind we never get old, above all we do not want to be. In these times, you want to stay and show that you have more to give. It is a poppy song that feels very contemporary with a wonderful beat that makes you happy, but it also got a bit of a schlager touch.

Släpp #2 - Clara Klingenström "Behöver inte dig idag"
Eo-Pi-M5-XXUAEv-SCs-1.jpg

Songwriters:
Clara Klingenström, Bobby Ljunggren, David Lindgren Zacharias
Tags: #Heartfelt, #Revenge, #Ljunggren, #Swedish
Likely draw: 2nd in SF 1
Odds to Win: 1%
If I would describe my song with one sentence it would be "Fucking revenge". It's a very heartfelt song where I'm singing to myself when being on the bottom, I sing that you have to pick yourself up.

Släpp #3 - Eric Saade "Every Minute"
Eo-S3j6f-XYAEGNh-H.jpg

Songwriters:
Eric Saade, Linnea Deb, Joy Deb, Jimmy "Joker" Thörnfeldt
Tags: #Euphoric, #Addictive, #Sexy, #Joker, #Darkness
Likely draw: Last out in SF 4
Odds to Win: 12%
The song is a euphoric, addictive and quite sexy song, which has a little darkness in it as well. You can feel the pure euphoria. That euphoria you can only feel after a real low can be truly addictive. You are completely stuck in something that is almost too good to be true.

Släpp #4 - Elisa "Den du är"
Eo-KYG6-LUUAIGNl-G.jpg

Songwriters: Bobby Ljunggren, Ingela Pling Forsman, Elisa Lindström
Tags: #Strong, #Timeless #Ballad, #Ljunggren, #Got_Nothing_Better
Likely draw: 3rd out in SF 3
Odds to Win: 1%
It is a Swedish mid-tempo ballad with energy, strength and forward drive. It's a schlager ballad in the way that there are four or five key changes. When I first heart it I just started crying. It was like it opened up all the layers inside and just drove straight into my body.

Släpp #5 - Dotter "Little Tot"
Eo-KXUyn-UUAc-NBT-1.jpg

Songwriters:
Johanna ”Dotter” Jansson, Dino Medanhodzic
Tags: #Intense, #Modern, #Lullaby, #Dynamic, #SmalltoBig, #DarktoLight
Likely draw: 6th in SF 3
Odds to Win: 11%
The song is quite intense. It’s an uptempo modern lullaby. It has a big chorus that is about telling the young ones not making the same mistakes as we have done when they grow up. The performance is going to be very dynamic. From small to big and from dark to bright.

Släpp #6 - Anton "New Religion"
ewald.jpg

Songwriters: Jonas Wallin, Joe Killington, Anton Ewald, Maja Strömstedt
Tags: #Melody, #Dance, #Pace, #Everything, #Anton
Likely draw: 1st in SF 3
Odds to Win: 3%
We came up with this smashing melody loop for the chorus and then it just felt like we had the song, there it was. The viewers can expect to see dance and high pacing with a lot of energy. I will simply give it my all.

Släpp #7 - Jessica Andersson "Horizon"
Eo-Ph-Lr-LXc-AEWi9e.jpg

Songwriters: David Kreuger, Fredrik Kempe, Marcus Lidén, Christian Holmström
Tags: #Organic, #Dancing, #Light
Likely draw: 3rd in SF 2
Odds to Win: 1%
The song is about finding the light in life and getting there no matter past difficulties. To set yourself free to be able to aim high while still having both feet on the ground. It's not a nightclub song, or actually it might well be, but I would say that this one is more organic in nature than Party Voice.

Släpp #8 - Lovad "Allting är precis likadant"
Eo-Fs-RBv-Xc-AIl-NSC.jpg

Songwriters:
Mattias Andréasson, Alexander Nivek, Lova Drevstam, Albin Johnsén
Tags: #Breaking, #Nude, #Fragile
Likely draw: 2nd in SF 4
Odds to Win: 1%
'You may have to break down to be whole again'. Viewers can expect something fragile, on the breaking point, I may start crying, I'm not really sure, but it will all bare or... I will not be nude. No! I will bare all in here, in spirit.

Släpp #9 - Kadiatou: "One Touch"
Eo-Fvy-SVXEAQfe-Kp-1.jpg

Songwriters: Joy Deb, Linnea Deb, Jimmy "Joker" Thörnfeldt, Anderz Wrethov
Tags: #Happy, #Dancing , #NeverSeen
Likely draw: 1st in SF 2
Odds to Win: 3%
A very positive song that I hope will make you and your whole family stand up and dance on top of the couch. You can expect to see a number you have never seen before. You might even see some dancing on stage as well.

Släpp #10 - Efraim Leo "Best Of Me"
Eo-Pi-Yei-WEAMVOFh.jpg

Songwriters: Efraim Leo, Cornelia Jakobsdotter, Amanda Björkegren, Herman Gardarfve
Tags: #Energetic, #Breakup, #Bathrobes
Likely draw: 6th out SF 3
Odds to Win: 2%
A wonderful and energetic song that is hard to sit still to. The text is about how difficult it is to leave someone you're fond of.

Släpp #11 - Tess Merkel "Good life"
Eo-I91-YVW4-AAhgng-1.jpg

Songwriters: Tony Malm, Tess Merkel, Palle Hammarlund, Mats Tärnfors
Tags: #Half-Depressed, #Injection, #Fun
Likely draw: 1st in SF 3
Odds to Win: 1%
From a slightly half-depressed text, this became a vitamin injection, a tribute to the fact that we're actually worth having fun. That life, despite whatever happens, is a gift. It's okay to be down. But we are worthy of having fun, of feeling hope and love for life.

Släpp #12 - Danny Saucedo "Dandi Dansa"
Eo-Fktd-JXIAk-XYMk.jpg

Songwriters: Danny Saucedo, Karl-Johan Råsmark
Tags: #Swedish, #Energetic, #Drifting, #Soulful
Likely draw: Last out in SF 2
Odds to Win: 19%
I'm probably digging a little into my "Jerry Maguire" dreams. It is a bit funky and soulful but at the same time typical of me and the society we live in. I have adapted the number, it's like a music video that moves around me while I drift around the room.

In the finals we will allocate 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and two goose eggs.

About the song
- It is a poppy song that feels very contemporary with a wonderful beat that makes you happy, but it also got a bit of a schlager touch that I feel is quite important.

- The song is called ‘Still young’ and then you might think I think I'm still young. But, no, that’s not it at all! The song is instead about that in mind we never get old, above all we do not want to be. In these times, it is very important to feel strong, you want to stay and have more to give. You think back to when you were younger and how things were.

- I literally sing that you can think back to how things were, when we were younger, when you were a child. But today life is different and it is because you have experience and you feel that you can do and give things in a different way. It's a nice lyric that feels relevant now.
- Expressen

Why she competes in Mello 2021
Song got me totally ‘hooked’

I didn’t think I would compete again but that’s how I’ve always thought and now it is the FIFTH TIME!! In these times it's very joyful to just be able to perform and now it feels like I haven’t done that in almost a year. I got the song sent to me and was totally ‘hooked’ and it made me throw myself into this circus again.

Children's criticism: "Have you had a stroke?"
In fact, it's not just Charlotte Perrelli herself who thinks the song is good this time around. At home, the whole family, but especially the children, have given their approval.
- Everyone thinks I have a good song now, and it's very nice. There have been times when the children have thought: “Really, are you sure you haven’t had a stroke? Why do you even line up with this song?? It will never work!” But this year, everyone thinks I have a good song and that makes things a little easier. - Expressen

Bobby Ljunggren convinced her
Bobby Ljunggren sent over a song with the words: "There are some potential artists who could do this, but I want you to listen first". She immediately felt eager to compete again.

- I called back within two minutes. I realized that oh my god, I have to be in, this opportunity cannot be missed. You do not get that feeling often, when a song feels just right. Of course, I have been in this game long enough that I’m well aware that I can go straight out of the competition.

Came last with a guitar
That's what happened last time Charlotte Perrelli competed with the self-written guitar ballad "My life" which ended last at Melodifestivalen, 2017.

- For me personally, that record was very important. I had to show a breadth of artistry and got to write a lot of material myself. That was a period where I actually did not enjoy music anymore. I noticed that those songs could actually touch humans in a different way than my poppy songs couldn’t. But now I have done that, now I want to invite the audience to something they can dance to. - Aftonbladet

BOBBY LJUNGGREN MELLO HISTORY

About the song
- If I would describe my song with one sentence it would be "Fucking revenge". I wrote my song when I was completely down at the bottom. - Twitter Press Conference

- The song is written by me, Bobby Ljunggren and David Lindgren Zacharias and I've written the lyrics. It's a very heartfelt song where I'm singing to myself when being on the bottom, I sing that you have to pick yourself up.
- SR

Why she competes in Mello 2021
So, I'm so incredibly happy to join Mello. Little Mini-Clara of six years, she would have died of happiness! - Hela Gotland

One of two acts not uncovered by Aftonbladet
Clara was only one of only two acts (kind of) not uncovered by Tobbe Ek of Aftonbladet. However he did speculate about her potential participation, writing:

- We know that number 27 on our list is a song written by Bobby Ljunggren, which will be performed by a young female debutant, who comes from niether "Idol" nor "Talang". I have not been able to get any closer than that but we can for sure speculate. Clara Klingenström is a name that can be counted on the family track with Ljunggren. She is signed to the company Freebird which is run by Bobby Ljunggren's wife Maria Molin and fits well with the description of a young debutant who has not competed in either "Idol" nor "Talang". In addition, she is followed on Instagram by Mello's competition producer Karin Gunnarsson.

About his entry 'Every Minute'
- You can feel the song is pure euphoria. That euphoria you can only feel after a real low can be truly addictive. You are completely stuck in something that is almost too good to be true. That's what my song depicts. - Expressen

- The song is a euphoric, addictive and quite sexy song, which has a little darkness in it as well. I wrote it during a period in my life that had been quite boring and dark in corona quarantine at the same time as the whole year felt crap.

Saade and his girlfriend of 5 years broke up and their marriage planned for May got abruptly cancelled.
Then something happened and I had one of the best summers of my life, so I wrote the song when everything was at its best.
- Aftonbladet

Why he competes in Mello 2021
Saade: I'm here for Björkman's sake
- I join out of pure love for the music and this program. And out of love for Christer Björkman who gave me the chance very early and has been a big part of my career ever since. I want Sweden to win Eurovision now that it is Christer's last year. I have promised him that I would compete again before he quits. Now when it's my 10 year anniversary also since I won it's also a good fit.

Winning not as important anymore
- When I was 19-20 winning was all that mattered to me but that's not the way it is for me now. If it is my song that has the best chance, I want it to go to ESC and if it is another song, it should go. Christer must end up at the top, and I think we all feel that. The only thing I feel is that I want it to be a very good competition. I want the best artists to be there because I love this program so much. - Aftonbladet

2013: 1st, Choir Battle

About her entry 'Den du är'
- It is a Swedish mid-tempo ballad with energy, strength and forward drive. It's a very timeless song and when I heard the music and lyrics together I just started crying. It was like it opened up all the layers inside and just drove straight into my body. - Expressen

- It's a schlager ballad in the way that there are four or five key changes. The basis is schlager but it still feels very genre free. I must say the songwriters have been in their element here, it's some of the best they have done together. For me this feels magical. - Schlagerfesten

Why she competes in Mello 2021
- We sent in a few songs but none felt completely 100% so I thought nothing would come out of it this year. Then SVT came back in touch and asked if I didn't want to make another attempt.

Felt so strong
- I thought 'Yes, well I'ts not like I've got anything better to do'. We tested out some new songs and when this song fell into my lap, it felt so strong. When me Bobby and Ingela started making this song we actually didn't have Mello in mind, but when the pieces finally fell into place it felt so strong. So I just though 'Oh, I hope I'll get to perform this one!' - Expressen

2019: 11th (Writer)

About her entry 'Little Tot'
- The song is quite intense. It’s uptempo and for me it almost feels like a modern lullaby. It has a big chorus that is about telling the young ones not making the same mistakes as we have done when they grow up. The performance is going to be very dynamic. From small to big and from dark to bright. - eurovision.tv

Have a vision, made a prototype
- This song is even more maxed out than Bulletproof, it's very rousing and a lot going on. I've done a prototype where I've gathered a plethora of references, lights and colors from other performances, artists and commercials and cut this together into a video to convey what I think. I've got a clear vision. - Schlagerfesten

Lullaby with a modern message
- It's a lullaby of modern times where I sing to my child about not becoming like us when growing up. 'Instead, try to become aware of your own ego. Young people who are drawn into social media only feel worse. You paint this fake facade and try to live up to it and compare yourself with others.' - Expressen

Why she competes in Mello 2021

I felt the same thing as I did with Bulletproof last year. The song felt so strong that I didn’t just want to release it on Spotify. I felt like it deserved something bigger, like a performance in Melodifestivalen in front of millions of people! - eurovision.tv

The song spoke to me, then who am I to say no?
- When we'd finished the song and I listened to it for the first time and saw a lot of pictures in my head. The song spoke to me that it needed a show. I saw how to make a really cool performance and then I just felt ‘Yeah, this might be something for Mello?’, then the record label (Warner) was super stoked and said ‘Oh my God! You really need to do this at Mello. This feels so right! ', then who am I to say no? - Schlagerfesten

A message for the next generation
- The next generation will find better ways to find common ground than to satisfy their own self-importance. This is something we need to start changing, because there is too much in this world that's dependent on ones ego. - Expressen

Thank you! I enjoy making them. I got to agree with you despite all artists agreeing that Sweden must to win now. Every artist can't poop gold just because Bjorkman is quitting.

About his entry 'Every Minute'
- My song came about when I sat with the songwriters in a studio session. We came up with this smashing melody loop for the chorus and then it just felt like we had the song, there it was. The viewers can expect to see dance, high pacing with a lot of energy. I will simply give it my all. - Twitter Press Conference

Why he competes in Mello 2021
- I have started writing quite a lot of music again the last few years and somewhere this song came along. It felt like an obvious Mello song so I asked the question to myself, 'Do I want to or do I not want to?' I came to the conclusion that it is clear as hell that I want to be in Mello again.

Writer is a Celebrity Child

The song "New religion" was written by Anton together with Jonas Wallin, Joe Killington and Maja Strömstedt. Maja is the daughter of Niklas Strömstedt (Melodifestivalen 2008) and Agneta Sjödin (Host of Sweden's JESC 2006).
- We have worked quite a lot together. I have written and produced some songs for her. We started working together several years ago and she's so skilled. - Aftonbladet

'You do not have the music' echoed in his head
He has gone through a dark period, but is now back. His life crisis began when he visited the US a few years ago to get a record contract. He says that there was hype around him.
- I met different record companies and everyone around me said that 'This will go well', 'You will be signed', 'Everything is fantastic', it was a craze. But nothing came out of it. I met a lot of record companies and everyone agreed that I had what i takes as a pop guy, the look, the dance, everything was "amazing". But everyone also said: "You do not have the music". I had believed everyone who said I would be signed, but now I the words echoed in my head 'you do not have the music, you do not have the music'.

Deleted his last name as part of his rebirth
As part of his rebirth, he has deleted his last name, and now only uses Anton as an artist name.
- I want the audience and fans to get to know me for the first time, as I am. It feels like a fresh start to call yourself Anton. For the first time, it is I who create, write and produce the music and give a part of myself. It's hard when someone else has written a song. Then you give some of them, through me. - Expressen

About the song
- The song is terrific. It's about finding the light in life and getting there no matter past difficulties. It's also something I can relate to on a personal level with the background I have. To set yourself free to be able to aim high while still having both feet on the ground.

Will there be any mom-dancing from you?
- No, no mom-dance but there will be dance. I do not know if I will dance too much but the vision is that I will have someone with me on stage who can. It's an uptempo but still quite different from Party Voice. It's not a nightclub song, or actually it might well be, but I would say that this one is more organic in nature. - Schlagerfesten

Why she competes in Mello 2021
- I’ve always been a hardcore fan of Melodifestivalen and even when I sometimes feel that maybe people get tired of seeing me there it’s really hard to say no when you hear a song as good as Horizon. Even to this day it’s hard for me to understand that I’ve actually won Melodifestivalen once. It has been surreal to say the least. I think if you compare it with today I’m more self confident now and it’s more important for me to get my own ideas across. I’m more involved in my stage performance and I’ve been more involved with the song. - eurovision.tv

Are you in it to win it?
Aint I always?? I'm super stoked. I've participated so many times now so every time I think I can never do this again, I go 'No one would want to see me in this competition yet another time'. But it's very difficult when you get a song like this which you really have no chance to defend yourself from. This year I've also missed the stage so much and just to get to sing again. With those thoughts in mind and then this song coming along it was just impossible to say no. -

MUSIC VIDEOS WITH LOVAD

Jag lovar (I promise)

Lyrics: Jag lovar (I promise)
I know you've already heard *Everything's gonna be alright’
‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’
But what do they know about angst? (about regret?)
I see it all when you’re at the bottom
Not even I can pick you up
It's so fucking rough sometimes

But I've run down these streets with you
Standing in Slussen crying (you’re cry with me)
Running cross the roofs on Södermalm

Honey, I'm here.

Oh baby,
maybe I can’t always give you everything
But you know I'll always be with you, right?
Will be here before you even have time to ask me
It doesn’t matter how you behave
Baby I,
can see you think that ‘You're not cut out for this’
Have felt your pulse beating harder than your heart can bear
But I'm here until everything calms down
When you have lost yourself, I'll be with you

Located there in your linen sheets
Think that Stockholm has become darkness
But it's you who’ve stopped opening your eyes, you’ve cut me off

A cold wind sweeps from the window over the skin
‘Is this how it feels to sense?’
But I'll feel for you forever, forever
And I'll run these streets with you
If your tears flow, use me to dry them
I'll breathe for you when you no longer can

Honey, I'm here.

Oh baby,
maybe I can’t always give you everything
But you know I'll always be with you, right?
Will be here before you even have time to ask me
It doesn’t matter how you behave
Baby I,
can see you think that ‘You're not cut out for this’
Have felt your pulse beating harder than your heart can bear
But I'm here until everything calms down
When you have lost yourself, I am with you

When you have lost yourself, I am with you
Aah-ah,
cause I'm here until everything calms down.
Aaaaaaah-aaaahaa, haaa-ah.

Innan dig (Before you)

Låt mig gå (Let me go)

Älskling (Darling)

Talk To Me

One of Them Girls

When I Wanted You

About the song
A wonderful and energetic song that is hard to sit still to. The text is about how difficult it is to leave someone you're fond of. - Twitter press conference

On competing in Mello 2021
- My song came about when I Cornelia, Amanda and Herman sat in a hotel room in Stockholm in bathrobes and jammed. At the end of the day, the song was done. It feels absolutely fantastic to be part of Mella, it will be so fun to be able to stand on that stage and just do what I love the most most so yes, let's go! - Twitter press conference.

MELLO HISTORY
2003:

2005: 3rd

2009: 5th

2010: AC, 1st round

2013: Interval Act

2014: 3rd

2017: Interval Act

About the song
- From a slightly half-depressed text, this became a vitamin injection, a tribute to the fact that we're actually worth having fun. That life, despite whatever happens, is a gift. So it's a three minute vitamin injection for all of us. It's okay to be down. But we are worthy of having fun, of feeling hope and love for life. - Expressen

Tess, 50, on finally going solo for Mello 2021
- Lina and Andreas are like family to me. I have now worked through the grief these last two years and finally have landed in me and feel ready myself. - Sveriges Radio

Two years ago Tess admitted to breaking up Acazar
- I take it upon myself to be behind breaking up Alcazar. I feel that it has been so big and fantastic but now I feel that I have a good conscience to do something else or at least have a window open for new possibilities. I have no clue what it would be but I have made the conscious choice to step out of the disco ball after 20 years. - P4 Sormland

She describes the strange year that has been like a "long exhalation"
- I have exhaled after having been around the world with Alcazar for 20 years . With the pandemic and being overthrown in many ways in life, I thought ‘This is enough’. That I can change this. Even though it is heavy, there is always something in life that I can celebrate, that everyone can celebrate. I also calculated that I've done Mello 15 times before. Three times I have produced numbers for other artists, I've done backup singing on three occasions and then it has been Alcazar and interval acts. - Expressen

- This will be the 16th time for me and then I see a clip where they describe Danny as THE VETERAN when he has only done Mello three times. WHAT AM I THEN? - Sveriges Radio

:D! at Tess's FURY at being overlooked as an MF institution.

This thread is great @Hak! I'd love to see these writeups for all the entries this year.

I appreciate your enthusiasm but we'll have to make do with write-ups of the 12 finalists this year, each one takes quite a bit of time to make.

And after all these are the acts OUR COMMUNITY has deemed worthy!

About his entry '"Dandi Dansa'
- I have a song with a good vibe and message with a performance I believe in. It’s going to be so much fun to create something for you ♥ ️Prepare for a legendary show - Social Media Announcement

Performing without an audience will be strange
- I did it at Globen this spring and it’s very strange when you won’t get applause at the end of each song. But I have adapted the number, it's like a music video that moves around me while I drift around the room. Everyone has to rethink and innovate. There's no mercy, still the show must go on. - DN

- The year has stunk so I felt like I wanted a happy, positive, energetic song. Not just silly, I actually want to say something. There is self-criticism and social criticism: We know what we should do, but we do not always do it, he says. - Expressen

- I'm probably digging a little into my "Jerry Maguire" dreams. It is a bit funky and soulful but at the same time typical of me and the society we live in. "Dandi dansa" is just a pun, a stupid rhyme. We say these kinds of things all the time, the same old tired expressions . But it can be comforting too, ignorance is bliss. - DN

Why he competes in Mello 2021
- I hope to show a good performance, a good concept. My placement isn’t important, I'm not here to pinch first place, my focus is to show how fucking good I am. There's probably no one who beats me in the sort of artistic expression I have - and I just think it's fun to show my ideas. I have done so many things in the past for the wrong reasons in my life, out of frustration and anger. - Expressen

Many thought you’d sing in English with the aim of winning Eurovision?
- That's what I would’ve done when I was wearing a light suit. But that's not where I am anymore, that's not why I'm entering Melodifestivalen. Something I hope I learned last time is not to focus so much on everything around me. It took quite a toll on me and I got sucked into it. This time I'm not in it just to win it, I think I've grown out of that part of things. Now I want to show off my skills and have fun. I just want to take part in Sweden's greatest entertainment program. - Aftonbladet

Started thinking this summer
- The idea crept up on me at the end of summer. It was something that popped up in my head, but my knee jerk reaction was "No, should I really?". This year has sucked hard. My gigs have been stopped, my arena tour was canceled. My creative side just went down the dumps and I’ve felt abstinence. I’ve longed to create something wicked and get the opportunity to show it. The only forum that offers this right now is the Melodifestivalen. - Aftonbladet

The road to competing was long & crooked -"I am young and I want to give"
Danny brainstormed with his manager, but ultimately dismissed the idea. Until he heard from Björkman.
- He said that it was his last year and that he wanted me to be part of leading the first SF. The idea was for Björkman to be joined by people who meant something to him and the competition throughout his years. I thought it sounded epic and felt honored that he wanted to do it with me so I agreed. But after I’d hang up, something inside me started boiling. - Aftonbladet

- Once at the production meeting, I’d started to second guess my decision to host. I told them bluntly that this wasn’t what I wanted, "I want to compete!", I thought it would be fun and unexpected, that I wanted to take a chance. It became a bloody awkward meeting. - TT

- Christer just laughed, no hard feelings there. I reasoned that I didn’t want to come as a veteran, that I’m young and got energy. I had a good song with a concept that would be mint in the competition. - DN

Danny, a History Lesson - Part 1 (of 1)
ub9e3eiyg3wrw3i.jpg

In Sweden Danny has had a reputation of being an ultra competitive very sore looser which is why many Swede's doubts his statements about not being in it to win it this time.

The day after Loreen won Danny's statements where plastered on tabloid front pages all over Sweden
Sweden, you made a mistake! My song would've fared better in Europe!
The subsequent Danny ridiculing and hate storm is in Mello-verse only second to the one directed against Carola in 2008. He labeled himself Sweden's most acidic salted cucumber and the post-competition social media witch hunt contributed to his depression in 2012-2014.

Live interview just after his loss to Loreen

Video Translation:
Damn, second place, not bad!
Yes, it actually sucks.

Sucks? Why does it suck?
Because I wanted to win, I didn’t want to come second. I did second last year.

What are you missing out on by not winning?
What Sweden will be missing is to send a number that looks and sounds cool out in Europe. Something that I think has slightly better chances than ‘Euphoria’ has, but that's what I believe.

My goal has always been to create a number that would represent our nation at ESC. That's why I set the bar so high. I wanted it to look dope, cool, like something that hasn’t been done on Swedish TV before. And I’ve been acknowledged. Raving reviews, “it’s great”, “cool”, “Grammy alert”, “Justin Timberlake blahahahwhaw”, what? That’s awesome! But! I wanted to advance, I wanted to go to Baku and show off this cool performance but I did not get to do that.

Was it difficult... was it a difficult task?
Yes, but I managed it gallantly (eyeroll). Well, I'm super happy with our effort.

Is there anything you could do better?
No, actually definitely no. It just got better and better every time I did it. So our part felt great.

You feel a little powerless. Now I’ve done my part and it’s up to the Swedish people. They’ve shown that they liked Euphoria (sideglance) better and hey, what the hell am I going to do about that? It's saddening but ..

Do you feel it's Euphoria's fault? If it hadn’t been in the competition or... yes then you would’ve won but…
Well yes, but it's a competition, everyone gets their shot (tired smile)

Was it a worthy winner then anyway?
Yes absolutely. Absolutely.

But hey, there’s always a next year?
Yeeeeah, and then at least you won’t see me there.

No? Why not?
Well, I can’t even... answer that question.

Come on now Danny. Third time’s the charm!
Well yes, but it’d be the fourth time then...

It is?? Oh, yes it will be but the third time….
Solo? No,

Not?
Naj.

But you, what happens now?
Now I'm going home.

Uh, stop it Danny!!
Are you going to party or what?

No, I can come with and comfort you.
Thanks! If you like whiskey you are very welcome (smile)

Damn, that's cozy! Well then, there’ll be no broadcast from the afterparty because I will accompany Danny. I will comfort him. He deserves it.

- You made a mistake, Sweden!
7.jpg

The winning song could have been his. But Danny Saucedo rejected "Euphoria". Yesterday he dissed Loreen's chances in Europe.

- I've done the dopest performance ever created in Sweden.

After the result is revealed, Danny Saucedo, 26, storms out of the ongoing live broadcast. He had fallen on the finish line. Again. Only after twenty minutes did he return to the green room, in new attire and still really disappointed with his second placing.
- I did not want to sit here and stare at Loreen's number again, I just wanted to go to my lodge and gather my gang. I just wanted out, he says dully.

"A fucking schlager"
It was many back and forths before Danny Saucedo decided to make a spectacular and lavish number of "Amazing". Before that, he had declined both David Lindgren's "Shout it out" and the winning song "Euphoria".
- "Euphoria" was a kitchy fucking schlager song when it came to me. Loreen did a fantastic version and a magical job. It would’ve sounded completely different with me, and it’s not at all certain my version would’ve even won in Malmö, says Danny.

Danny doesn’t shy away from his conviction that his number would’ve done better at Eurovision.
- I would place better than Loreen, just check out my performance, and you’ll see. What Sweden missed was to send an act that has better chances in Europe.

Loreen takes the criticism calmly.

- Danny is at least as good as I am if not even better. Danny is ruthless, a perfectionist, just like me, says Loreen.

"I wanted to go to Baku"

Last year, Danny Saucedo came second after Eric Saade. And this year he lined up to win and represent Sweden in the Eurovision song contest. The air has gone out the silver medalist, who is sitting huddled in the black bar stool in the green room.
- I'm super disappointed. I wanted to win, I wanted to go to Baku. I knew it would be between me and Loreen. I feel completely empty, I feel nothing. Maybe other emotions will come later.

Danny has his own theories why the Swedish people chose Loreen.

- She is the non-obvious, I think Sweden wanted something new. I'm so obvious, so commercial. I blink with lights, “Oh how childish”. "Let's take something serious instead." This is how I believe the Swedish people thought. But I hope everything goes well for her and for Sweden (at ESC).

Despite the disappointment, his self-confidence seems to be intact.
- It bothers me that my number didn’t go on to Europe. I didn’t line up to come second. I’ve done the dopest number ever made in Sweden. I know what I have accomplished.

Went to the girlfriend
But it will probably be a while before Danny competes in the Melodifestivalen again.
- I love Mello, but you won’t see me here for a while…

Danny boycotted the night's afterparty to get peace and quiet with the family instead. At the same time as the other finalists arrived at the Annex in the Globe area, Danny had gone to his girlfriend Janna Gränesjö's apartment in Södermalm, Stockholm.
- I have nothing to do there. I'm going home to hang out with the family, drink whiskey and linger. I have nothing to celebrate. At the same time as Loreen partied with the finalists and lots of other celebrities at SVT's official afterparty, Melodifestivalen's second hit the sack.

At 01.45 he wrote the final evening's last post on the microblog Twitter:
“Thank you for all the love and support. Good night to all the Danny fans out there. ”

I always thought the song and the dance routine were awful, can't believe it did so well, I guess because of him.
That's were I disagree, I think him and his team should be very proud of the Skrillex bridge and dance routine. The choreography needs to be perfectly on point for the camera angles to work in the blackout break.

He was right that in 2012 this was on a completely new level of technical difficulty.

Oh technically was great and he's a really good dancer, but I found it so ridiculous and as you said everything was "try too hard".
