Hadn't heard this in ages and it just came on. I'd forgotten how much I liked it.

I'd like to see what the consensus is though. Hence, a poll.

the keepers from that album: Criminal, How I Roll, Scary, He About to Lose Me :disco:

the one with the rap that references is a steaming pot of vegetables is also :D

I remember when the title first leaked some were afraid that after Max Martin’s previous risqué double entendre songs such as 3 and If You Seek Amy this was going to be about wanting to take a piss but luckily it turned out to be only about masturbation.

Inane rubbish. I hate the Femme Fatale singles

"Hold it Against Me" is the only single from the album that isn't a 10/10 for me, although I like it. I can't believe it's been AN ACTUAL TEN YEARS since it was released. Her last #1 :(

All four singles I adored at the time. Don’t really need to listen to them now, mind.

This (and TTWE) really ought to have been massive UK hits.

I was going to say was the UK release/rollout of "I Wanna Go" that botched to where it didn't even make the top 100? I know "Till the World Ends" didn't peak that high but I remember it stuck around the UK chart for awhile so didn't make sense to me when a song just as good (if not better) sunk without a trace.

I was absolutely convinced that I Wanna Go was a top ten hit here until you said that.

WOW

To be honest this was around the time where promotion paid off big time in a sales environment. Given her state of roboticness she simply did zero promotion, so the only way to get any kind of success was airplay. And UK radio snubbed TTWE then this one so there was pretty much no way she could get any kind of single success. A shame as I genuinely think if more people actually HEARD these two singles they would have been easy top ten hits as they were in a lot of other countries.

Maybe it was just the law of diminishing returns, but #111 (I think that was the peak for IWG) just seemed HARSH. I mean even "Radar" made the top 50 as single #4.

Oh I used to love this song! Loved the whole era to be fair, very fun. The video was on heavy rotation at the time of its release so I was quite shocked it never even cracked the top 100 despite everything else.

It's been ten years and I'm still upset at Inside Out being placed as track 3. Imagine the pow-pow-pow of the first four tracks without it!

The way the UK didn't know her this whole era was baffling, considering how strong the material was, how well it all did in the US, and how in phase it was with what was popular. But I maintain that disastrous comeback performance on X-Factor completely derailed her career in Britain. In retrospect, X-Factor was an extremely high-risk platform - it could either make you an icon (Beyoncé) or pretty much kill your momentum stone-dead (Britney, Mariah, the Born This Way era, to an extent even Whitney's comeback...).

Well the disastrous X-Factor performance was on brand. I went to the Femme Fatale Tour and it honestly truly was the worst concert I've ever been to. (And yes I know I always say this..)

I also think Hold It Against Me did a lot of damage in the UK. It opened with its first three weeks straight in the top 20 on the airplay chart which was a damn good start. Then people realised they didn’t actually really like it, the single sank, the video was delayed and shit and she’s never been playlisted on radio since.

One has no choice but to place Britney Jean LAST in every album rank, I mean, some songs aren't even sung by her and Will.I.Am is a diabolical producer.

BOMT is above it by a nose, and by that I mean Soda Pop and I Will Be There which are bops. Not fucking Body Ache, Alien or Passenger :manson:

Sorry but I’m having a moment to BODY ACHE as we speak :disco:

I think in hindsight, I like Hold It Against Me the most of three big singles. I Wanna Go second. It’s really a joyful song.
