Synthwave, nu-wave, synth-pop, whatever the kids are calling it

Big acts like The Weeknd are still keeping it en vogue but a lot of indie-pop groups are releasing some good stuff too.

Share!

I've gone synthwave before, but I've got another one up my sleeve for further down the line which I'll not share now.

If you like the rockier end of the spectrum, I evangelise about LeBrock at every opportunity.

Of course I went synthwave for my first ASFM and finished Top 5 I think.

This is still one of the greatest songs I've EVER HEARD

did (80s) Van Halen and Whitesnake have a baby? :D

I think the genre is pretty broad because synthwave can be rock AND R&B.

@ButterTart have you tried Arizona? More poppy than rocky but definitely indie pop. Their recent album was wall to wall synthwave. A bit samey in places but the best songs are superb. My favourite was "Trouble"

Well I need to listen to ALL OF THESE after work. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I will add when I do

This is bloody fantastic. MORE PLEASE sir.

I've only just discovered these. They have a new album coming out but it's like album #4 or something! You can tell from their album covers that they embrace the genre completely. I'd check them out.

Arizona’s Freaking Out remixed by Matoma is one of last years fave chez Devil now it’s been mentioned

Does this count?

I FUCKING LOVE ST LUCIA

and this is spoiling one of my discoveries for my lockdown countdown - they're in the Top Ten. I really should have finished that.

Me too! I had never heard of them, but then I saw them opening for Ellie Goulding when I was in high school, and I LOVED them, especially that song

Everyone who likes 80s synth pop / nu wave really needs to investigate St Lucia. As long as they don't mind a male vocal, mind.

I think they've quietly influenced a lot of bands to update their sound with recent albums - Friendly Fires spring to mind.

She’s been mentioned here prior but I love me a bit of Hatchie

Obviously Fickle Friends and Pale Waves need to be mentioned here, but I assume everyone knows them.

Fenech-Soler were in my lockdown countdown also with this, which is still absolutely GLORIOUS

That's enough from me for now until something new pops up. I want some recommendations people!

I've just remembered an excellent recent-ish bleeper but I'm saving it for an ASFM :D
