Girls Aloud - Something New

Can you handle THAT, cause we're the LEADERS of the PACK!

It remains a complete and utter BANGER.
It is both enormous and reductive. Somebody should have spent more than 5 minutes trying to string a verse together but the chorus GOES OFF

It sounds really hollow now, like they're trying to convince themselves. That it all fell apart so quickly speaks loudly for that.

I still think it's quite thrilling

And Nadine at 02:46 is a particular highlight :disco:

I don't think I've EVER recovered from them splitting up. What with that and fucking Br*xit, I'm nothing more than a barely flickering shadow of my former self :(

GO GIRLS G-G-GO-GO-GO

I repeat my earlier assertion- it should still be number one now...

I was never a huge fan of this one but it has grown on me massively over the years. The video is great also.

I understand why it wasn't a big hit, but it's probably my favourite Girls Aloud song at this point.

The Show will always be my favourite GA track. The living, breathing DEFINITION of a MAX BANGER :disco:

I was reading an old Guardian review of "Tangled Up" when this was bumped on Sunday, and I must say this made me chuckle:

Ken Livingstone apparently believed they could improve diplomatic relations between Britain and China, which even their most ardent fan might consider is investing Something Kinda Ooooh with powers slightly beyond its facility.

Something Kinda Oooh is still one of my absolute favourites. It's like a string of fabulous moments that someone made a song.

I adore it.

It grabs you by the throat from the very start, throws you around relentlessly for three glorious minutes, then spits you out leaving you breathless and gagging for more.

Utterly intoxicating.

It is weird to me that Something Kinda Ooh was such a big hit. Not that it's not brilliant, but it's brilliant in the way that so many Xenomania tracks are, which so rarely seems to resonate with the general public.

It was also the first of their singles to be a big proper hit on the download market. That had something to do with it- radio reacted to it as they could see it was (surprisingly) taking off. To be fair, they were done after the GH without it...

I remember when it dropped, everyone (beyond Moopy) went wild for it. It really took them to the next level. It felt fresh at the time, which was quite something for a created girl band five years into their career.

I love this song. I remember it best for being Moopyrate's soundtrack in one of SorB's videos :disco:

Their ability to deliver a real EVENT SINGLE from every album is what kept them successful (increasingly so) I'd say - Love Machine, Biology, Something Kinda Oooh, Call The Shots, The Promise... it's just a shame they called it quits when they did because they definitely had one more big album in the tank.

They could have kept it going alongside Cherly's solo career but they gambled on an overlong hiatus. 4 years is a very long time in pop, especially in the pre-streaming age.

OK it's fine. Giving Something New just an 8 shows a distinct lack of taste. Under the rules I'm not allowed to say I hope you get run over. So good luck with all your road crossings.

It's clearly a 13.
