Anyone have some examples of songs were sent to Melodifestivalen, got rejected, and then went on to compete in other countries' National Finals (in some cases even won)?

I always felt that Storm by thingy from Estonia, Victor von Doom, was that just a MF off cut?

Denmark Rasmussen - Higher Ground
Denmark Chanee & N'Evergreen - Moment Like This
Norway Knut Anders Sørum - High

These were rejects originally from memory

Wasn't Michael Rice a MF reject? :zombie: (but FINE for the UK apparently)

Yeah, it was. I think I read somewhere it also what John Lundvik submitted first before they pushed for him to sing Too Late For Love. :DAF:

I think it was more him trying to do a Sahlene by representing Estonia then competing in MF the following year. :D The song did have a few Estonian songwriters from memory and I think he had been working/performing with Estonian musician so there was some merit to it being set for Estonia.

Not Melfest but wasn’t Nobody But You originally offered to the UK? :D

There was a weird phase in the late 00s where a lot of them ended up in Romania and Poland even with the original Swedish singers still performing.

I think Wolves Of The Sea was also originally sent to MF.

Yes I think SVT had to talk John Lundvik out of singing that in favour of Too Late for Love. If he thought that was worth singing, he needs to learn about QUALITY CONTROL.

The alternative reality where Michael Rice sang Too Late for Love does not bear thinking about.

@ButterTart’s ASFM entry Goliath I’m almost CERTAIN has been dabbled in Melfest/NF circles at some point. It’s exactly three minutes long and everything :D

A bit OT - but I was wondering whether a song that fails to be selected in a national competition could be selected by another country to represent them? Is that allowed? Has it happened?

Yes it was in the final 10 for the UK at which point he was offered the gig for Austria without having to go through a national final so he withdrew it.

There was something in a Belarusian selection one year that was nipped across to Poland (where it also failed).

This was demoed by Jessica Andersson for Melfest, but she ultimately went with Party Voice instead

'Himmel för två' was set to compete in Melodifestivalen before they realised the English version had previously taken part in the Moldovan selections.

I did wonder whether Dr Frankenstein and Superhero were MF rejects.

Do we know if Ira Losco's Walk on Water was a MF reject? Molly Hammer Pettersson co-wrote it and sung backing vocals - I suspect she turned it down in favour of Hunger.

More songs that were rejected by Melfest:

Samra - Miracle (Azerbaijan 2016)
Waldo’s People - Lose Control (Finland 2009)
Hera Björk - Someday (Denmark 2009)
Jedward - Waterline (Ireland 2012, originally recorded by Eric Saade)

Denmark Chanee & N'Evergreen - Moment Like This

"A Moment Like This" coming 4th (despite all the chemistry of a CAR CRASH between Chanee and N'evergreen) in the year Sweden failed to qualify was such a SLAP in Christer Björkman's face. :D :(

Some more songs:

Finland 2002: Johanna - Broken Heart (Charlotte Perrelli did a cover but apparently was not the demo singer)
Norway 2003: Kikki, Lotta & Bettan - Din hånd i min hånd (originally entered in Sweden by them with Swedish lyrics)
Finland 2004: Arja Koriseva - 'Til The End of Time (demo by Pernilla Wahlgren)
Denmark 2014: Rebekka Thornbech - Your Lies
Ireland 2015: Erika Selin - Break Me Up

Sergey Lazarev - The Flyer (Russia NF 2008, offered to Danny and Måns)
Tina & Rene - Mi Amore (written allegedly on the same day as In A Moment Like This)
Le Freak - 25 Hours A Day (sent to Melfest and meant for NEO)
Trine Jepsen - I'll Never Fall In Love Again (DMGP 2009)
Geir Rönning & Jordun Erdal - Lost And Found (MGP 2006)
Eva Boto - Run (EMA 2012)
Jedward - Waterline (offered to Eric Saade for 2010)
Ressu Redford - Say You Will, Say You Won't (Finland NF 2002, covered by Friends in the same year)
Mihaela Marinova - Bad News (Bulgaria's focus group 2018)

Of course there was Colours that went from a potential Bulgarian entry, to a potential entry for Malta two years ago to a national final entry in Croatia this year.
