Scottish politics thread (including 2021 Holyrood elections, potential IndyRef2, and SNP leadership contest)

Not really politics related but a friend has got to temporarily move to Fraserburgh soon for work and I am AGOG at how cheap property is up there

Will she have to step down now? What will happen next?
Nah, she'll survive. The James Hamilton inquiry is the one that would topple her. And "Knowingly" is the key word, which would be a high bar to prove.

Thank God. I thought that was it and she would need to step down now. My heart was actually in my mouth there.

James Hamilton's report looks like it will be published today. So, depending on its findings, we could have a resignation by the evening, or, more likely, just a massive pointless argument until election day.

Are the MSPs on the committee being political here?

From a distance, it has come across quite transparently as opposition party MSPs trying to sink Sturgeon before the election because they know she is an asset.

Yes, I think the Tories calling for the Vote of No Confidence in her before she even presented her evidence was the point where they jumped the shark (in so much as Tories can even do so)

I assume that will be less damaging for the SNP with the Scottish proportional representation system than it would be in a First Part the Post system, but nonetheless fuck Alex Salmond.

Explicitly trying to take advantage of the voting system:

(Although does a supermajority have any practical relevance other than just more votes in the chamber?)

Presumably only contesting the lists?
Yes, the people that will be hurt most is probably the Greens.

How long until J*anna Ch*rry jumps ship.

Also the stream has of course now went to shit with the video cut and Salmond gurning for two minutes on his own.

Will be interesting to see how he polls compared to the Greens. That would likely be the key factor in tactical voting - especially in regions where the SNP sweep the constituency seats.

(Also depends on whether you can stand the man).
