I didn't realise this, is it rolling out for all ages now then? I'm pleased for you if so!
I'm sure BBC Breakfast mentioned it's still over 55's in France and over 60's in Germany. Macron is now condemning this though and apparently still thousands of doses are being rejected.

I guess most people being vaccinated in France at the moment are over 55, so maybe in practice it doesn't make a big difference yet?

That, plus we’re not getting that many doses anyway so everything is being used for now.

Um

Can someone sensible tell me that this Astra hysteria is just hyperbole? Ugh Twitter!

The absolute risk is still tiny. It's the relative risk that they're concerned about, and under 30s they've judged it not worth it when there are alternative vaccines that will be available to them that don't have that risk.

Thank you my angel, all this exhausts me so much I stop being able to see clearly.

A bit bitter that your Louboutin Loyalty Card only buys you access to some cheesy nibbles and burnt champagne at the Bicester Village outlet, and not to the exclusive jab party per chance?

Sorry, What the FUCK is a Bicester Village outlet you BATTY OLD CUNT?

The attitude of the politicians in the Western world to the whole blood clot issue is making me so angry. We might have access to other vaccines, but Oxford/AstraZeneca is the only reliable option for the vast majority of the developing world. We're putting ourselves in a position where we're going to be saying to Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria and a great many others that this vaccine isn't good enough for our young adults, but is perfectly fine for their populations when we've historically given them quite enough reasons not to trust on vaccines already. This means that they'll either not bother getting vaccinated at all, leading to many new variants of the virus, or they'll use the Chinese or Russian vaccines, which barely bother publishing their clinical trials, let along anything about side effects.

While this whole thing stresses me out I have to remind myself that 1 in 10 people get stomach upsets and/or headaches from antibiotics and paracetamol. About 1 in 100 can have ‘serious’ reactions such as dizziness, anxiety, glandular swelling and rashes. Antihistamines can cause palpitations, drowsiness, constipation and a host of other things.

blood clots are, potentially but not proven, caused in 1 in 5 million people who take the vaccine.

it’s important to study the impact but it’s one of those “perspective required” type of things.

I thought Canada's was doing well with their vaccination programme? Clearly I was wrong..

They’re now claiming that they’re ahead of many countries (mostly Europe) but only because they’re delaying the second dose to 4 months which is not what the manufacturers recommend.

This gif shows how disorganized the vaccine administration is

It’s almost the inverse

I was vaguely clinging onto the hope of visiting Canada this summer (having rebooked it in September when things were looking a little more rosy) but having read a bit more about the vaccine rollout, and the biggest outbreak of the Brazil variant outside of South America in BC, i think i'll be getting my travel voucher for the next attempt instead.

Yeah I don’t think it’s feasible to plan a trip to Canada this year. People coming in have to quarantine in a hotel for 3 days (a minimum of $1000) and then quarantine at home for the rest of the two weeks.

I assume the restrictions will be relaxed once the numbers go down but that could take months.

Far from a Brexiteer myself, I was a massive "remoaner" but the EU's handling of the whole situation even got me Brexi-curious.

In terms of clots (other than Macron) it's so rare it seems barely worth the fuss but okay it seems fair with an abundance of caution to offer something else to under 30s if the supply is enough. Under 30 the risk of Covid is so low it's looking roughly equal to the blood clot risk they're quoting in that age group. There is an overall benefit of helping with herd immunity but people aren't happy about taking "a similar risk (to them) to Covid" to protect everyone else. This is what happens when you scare people with false "it's deadly for all ages" messages for a year - you ask those at low risk "can you take the same risk as Covid to get vaccinated and help everyone else" and they feel like their number is up.

Offering an alternative is a weird cop-out. "Oh did you get a blood clot? Well, we offered you an alternative, it's not our fault you didn't choose the alternative". If I were under 30 (:(), I'd just opt for
the alternative. But as an over 30, I'll take my second shot of AZ with enthusiasm.

@Rita stumbling drunk into Bicester Village: "WHAT IS THIS SHIT?... OH WAIT.... 😍 OUTTA MY WAY CUNTS!"

(this pic is from an article about shoppers failing to socially distance last year, so ON TOPIC)

The flapping over this when people are prescribed the contraceptive pill without blinking despite a ONE IN ONE THOUSAND risk of blood clots says all I need to know about the overall regard for reproductive health in the UK and globally.

The change in attitude when cis men might be the ones at risk is palpable.

Wow, I work on a high street and it's mad out there already. They're prepared by setting up metal barriers to form queues all along the road. Primark's queue is insane!

Most pubs here are waiting until May. Going to be hard to find a birthday pint tomorrow :(

Still, probably rain anyway. Not long now!

Still annoyed that you cannot mix indoors. Mr Dad called yesterday to invite me round at the weekend as he was clearing out the attic and found some of my stuff. I had to remind him that we still couldn't meet apart from in the garden.

So I can go to a supermarket and non essential shops with a mask on amongst complete strangers, some of whom are not wearing masks and the ones who are, are mostly not wearing them correctly, but can't meet one person in my family whom I know has been vaccinated and hasn't even left the house in weeks.

Are EU countries still not doing the 12 weeks trick?

We've started delaying in Germany. 6 weeks for Pfizer/Moderna, 12 weeks for AstraZeneca.

I've got a week off this week but it's rainy and miserable and no sign of a first vaccination date despite being in elevated risk. Just glad my parents got their first jab. Maybe I can go visit them in mid-late May after they've completed their vaccination and I'll have isolated/tested negative. Numbers keep creeping in the wrong direction again though. At the beginning of the year, I had hoped we might be in a better place come April but it's still very tricky.

Same with pubs indoors, I can stand shoulder to shoulder in Primark but not sit 2m away from strangers in a pub? Bit odd.

If you are aged 45-49 in England, the NHS website apparently already allows you to book your vaccine. Multiple friends booked appointments this evening for later this week.
