Will Young is putting out a covers album and the tracklist includes songs by Robyn, Lykke Li, Solange, and Sky Ferreira. A standards album for the ALT POP GAYS.

The lead single is a cover of Bat for Lashes' 'Daniel'.

okay but Will Young covers MUNA? for that I'm stoked.

very curious to see what he's done with Strong and Everything is Embarrassing too. this feels like a good move for him.

shame about the dreary self serious cover art but I spose you can't HAVE IT ALL!

I thought My Love was great from the last album, but most of it was kind of forgettable. I'm here for this! All great song choices

Some great song choices! :D/:( at him doing Everything is Embarrassing AND Losing You, but not Flatline though.

💅
he chose the good songs and ditched the mediocrity. good for ha!

Oh here for this! I don’t need him to cover Strong, Missing or Losing you though, three of my all time favourite songs.

I’m very curious on his take of Elizabeth Taylor. On one hand I’m glad to see that track get a bit more recognition because it’s incredible. On the other I don’t see how he can do it justice. Her voice is immense. We’ll see.

the new single is great.

I hope he does a cover of the remixed version :disco:

He's running a serious risk of being accused of mansplaining the songs back to the original artists but let's see.
Do you think? I hope not, I just took it as his version of doing Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Male’ but will be interesting to see how this goes in terms of reception.

Oh, I don't personally think that's what he's doing but if he does all the songs as mid-paced semi-acoustic things, he'll be an open goal. Like I say, let's see.

I wouldn't mind if it looked a bit more like a bathroom floor.

What a tracklist though! Elizabeth Taylor :disco:

The Cam song (while the least obvious in the slightly alt gay playlist fave stakes) is great and should definitely suit him.

I’m really tempted to preorder this even though I’ve only liked three and a half of his songs (that I’ve heard).

He called it a pop album and I would expect Richard X of all people to correct him if he wanted to slow everything down and take it in an overly earnest acoustic direction.

Well colour me curious. At least he's giving the original artists of these obscure songs credit on the back, it's a nice touch.

I am here for this. Although I have never really taken to HIM, I do love a lot of his songs. Jealousy, All Time Love, Leave Right Now, Silent Valentine, Who Am I...all sublime

One of the few male artists I am a real fan of actually

Echoes is a truly fantastic album.

I like some of his other singles too, but album wise he’s never come close to that.

Freakytrigger got to Leave Right Now recently, and I was mildly surprised to be reminded that he never had another number one after that.

He actually has fewer big hits than you might assume in general. I guess he’s just done well to vaguely stick around.

Yeah, but you’re misreading his (eventual) target market of middle aged women who buy CDs in Tesco because he very much has been an album artist for some time- all of his albums up to the last couple have sold pretty well...

Actually, looking at his album history, only the last one was a bit of a bomb. The rest were all long charters...

4 weeks in the album charts for a new entry is kinda standard these days really, unfortunately, unless you're one of the dozen acts that break through and hang around for 2 years. There's very little middle ground any more. Not when Fleetwood Mac, Queen and David Bowie can have five or six albums on the chart at any one time.

What's that you say, it's time for a Will Young Top Ten? OKAY THEN!

1. Friday's Child
2. Jealousy
3. History (with Groove Armada)
4. All The Songs
5. Home
6. Runaway
7. You Don't Know
8. You And I
9. Losing Myself
10. Grace

I've actually got a shocking amount of songs in my playlists, and many of them are album tracks. The Let It Go and Echoes albums in particular have a bunch of deep cuts...

Great interview but

Not completely convinced by the journalist declaring Solange more mainstream than Everything But The Girl.

LOL! the interviewer must either be very young or have a bad memory.

It took me a couple of listens to get past my familiarity with the original but his version of Daniel has become quite a favourite, it is so lovely. I wonder what he'll go with next - I'm assuming one more single and another song before the album.
