Eurovision 2021 HANGOVER thread and HOT STATS

Take A Bow Thank You GIF by Iliza

I still maintain it would have been easier for him to just bribe the host

You have to LAUGH :basil:

So as far as I can tell, every single song on this list was also top 5 in the televote in the final once you discount Big Five autoqualifiers...

...with the exception of Kirkirov-helmed projects Sugar and My Lucky Day :D

(HOWEVER, it is kind of worth noting that Sugar and My Lucky Day both qualified from two very clearly weaker semis, as reflected by number of top 10s in the final)

I don’t know why nobody seems to be able to enjoy Sugar as a banger with simple but pretty decent visuals, a dance routine that nobody fucked up. She’s really likeable

My favourite part of the routine was then the mic hit the floor
I would say the semi was much better

(And if the juries were bribed then the mic drop wasn’t in the jury final anyway right?)

anyway much prefer it to other gay bops like Cyprus and Greece

Oh COME ON :D Basically everyone here was utterly in love with it in the lead-up (AND AFTER BOTH PERFORMANCES!), it's not as if this is a forum of witches DEAD SET AGAINST the whole thing!

But sure, it's not at all REMOTELY suspicious that it got as many televote 12s in the semi as some of the most popular winners/top 3s this contest has ever had, from such noted semi final viewing powerhouses as France, Portugal and the Czech Republic, before coming 13th in the final (with jury 12s from noted bribery-free havens with ZERO connection to Kirkirov, Russia and Bulgaria) :eyes:

They were basic but they sort of worked, I don’t know. There were some really shit artistic treatments this year.

anyway :eyes: all you want

Spain, apparently.

That Spanish televote is fascinating. What do you have to be doing to impact (that’s the adjective I am using, others are available) the televote in a country the size of Spain?

So it was based on Spain but didn't have the same 12 as Spain?

Thing is, I imagine population isn't the relevant point here. IIRC the semi-final viewership tends to be absolutely appalling in France (as it is here), so I'd imagine it's the same in other Big Five countries too - which means it almost certainly doesn't actually take that much SIM card work/number spoofing to get to 12.

Good point, it must be in the hundreds of thousands (if that).

I would like to know how the SM televote is generated. Wasn’t there an issue in 2019, with its jury vote?

Doing some (VERY) rough working out:

I have it in my head for some reason that 60,000 votes is usually the amount the 12 pointer gets in the UK in the grand final (off a viewership of typically around 8 million). Scale down a viewership of, say, 600,000 by around 133 - you're talking about 4,000-5,000 votes to get 12.

If you're sending something that could reasonably expect to finish in the middle/top 10 of a country's televote otherwise, you're probably looking more at 'topping up' the vote rather than faking the bulk of it to get it to an amount that would get the 12. Man the autodialer and the number spoofer and have a pile of 100 SIM cards to hand and voila - you've got yourself 12 in 3 or 4 countries (plus the two or three juries you had a word with) and you've got around 72 points and guaranteed yourself into the final.

Has a Kirokov song ever super flopped?

Not really, this seems to be the list - representing once, the rest are writing credits

Doesn't seem like he's always had the juries onside either: https://wiwibloggs.com/2016/05/15/zero-points-21-juries-filip-kirkorov-call/142019/
On Saturday evening Russia’s Sergey Lazarev won the hearts and minds of Eurovision voters across the continent, topping the televote with 361 points, just ahead of televote runner-up Ukraine (323 points) and well ahead of third-place televote finisher Poland (222 points). But, as with Italy’s Il Volo last year, the professional juries marked Russia down, ranking him only fifth (behind Australia, Ukriane, France and Malta) and costing him the title.

Today his composer Filip Kirkorov spoke out, decrying the fact that Sergey received zero points from 21 juries. Yes, that’s HALF of them. Clearly offended, he went on to suggest that the jury’s share of the overall vote should be reduced from 50% to 25%.

His own one came 17th in 1995 :basil:

Otherwise, no, Sugar's the biggest final flop so far - but they do mostly tend to be exceptionally effective pop songs with big, memorable stage shows. Why they dropped the ball on the stage show this year for Sugar is another question...

Belarus 07: Work Your Magic - 6th (from 3rd slot!)
Ukraine 07: Shady Lady - 2nd
Russia 14: Shine - 7th (6th on televote, 13th on juries)
Russia 16: You Are The Only One - 3rd (1st on televote, 5th on juries)
Moldova 18: My Lucky Day - 10th (8th on televote, 10th on juries)
Moldova 21: Sugar - 13th (12th on televote, 15th on juries)

It's also interesting to note that Sugar was 1st on the televote for France in the semi, and 20th on the televote for them in the final :eyes:

Anyway, I was planning to try a re-run of the results based on the old combined scores, but it takes ages and I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Would be nice to go back to some verifiable FACTS in this thread anyway :eyes:

I’d like it noted that, after the thirteen hour Russian telethon we endured before the premiere, everyone except me was slagging it off. It was only when an independent study found evidence of a vagina and no talent that Moopy decided to like her.
