Moopy Fit Club 2021

I just can't quite get to that one stone mark, I'm still on 12lbs lost!

By contrast the muscle building, in my arms, legs and chest is going really nicely! Thigh muscles, who knew?!

The stomach and hips are still the biggest mountain I have to climb. Everything is tighter, less flabby but not necessarily as svelte as I'd like

I'm now only 4lbs off the next target which is to go below 14 stone

I’m about to go to bed but I’ll just leave this request here. Basically I’m a fat blob and I hate myself, and I don’t have the money to join a gym (and I’m deathly bored of them anyway) and Corona anyway.

SO can anyone recommend a home workout YouTuber suitable for fatties? I just want to lose some weight, I can get into the weeds of muscle training later

I know it's a bit basic, but last year's Joe Wicks workouts were actually quite fun. And you can up or lower the effort level if you like.

fitness blender has a lot of free videos, including a lot that don’t need any materials

I just can't exercise at my house. Totally inappropriate space.

The only ride I'm gonna get anytime soon.

(Unless I muster up the courage to send another message to the gorgeous Hungarian doctor I bought it from)

Moopy cyclists or bike fans - since I'm no longer able to run, I'm keen to get into cardio again. I want to start road biking and am looking into bikes. I'm trying to persuade my uncle to sell his, but part of me suspects that I'm best buying new so I can speak to experts and get one that suits my size/ability. Just concerned about costs.

I've always liked cycling but have never done road cycling seriously before so don't really know where to start. Would you buy second hand or advise against it?

Just wanted to share that I gained 10 kilos since the first quarantine which made me classify from normal to obesity type 1. Which is huge and the realization made me feel like proper shit. Anyways after taking ages to acknowledge that this was my responsibility cause I let it happen and that it is really unhealthy and possibly critical in the case that I get corona, I basically forbid myself all sorts of late night meals and icecreams and snacks, all sorts of pre-prepared food and added a 5kms walk and one hour of swimming to my daily routine. It's not much activity and instead of making me feel more tired it actually made me feel better and healthier. Also lost 5 of the 10 kilos and am now down to overweight. Which is still bad but slightly better. 5 kiios still to get rid off.

Brilliant that you're taking charge of it QOTB! Keep at it and share your progress on here. 🤗

If you're not sure then 2nd hand is absolutely fine. A decent first hand road bike (if you can get any right now) is a fairly big investment.

Bikes are fairly simple things, it's not like a car where its usefulness deteriorates over time. A nicely refurbished or well maintained second hand bike can be just as good and way cheaper than a new one.

You can always upgrade later down the line if you get into it.

Although indeed try to get one that fits you as much as possible. A poorly sized bike can cause Injury.

Thanks Indie. I'm holding out a little hope that I can get my uncle's but we'll see. The Education Authority here, technically my employer, offers Cycle to Work too, so I might look into that.

Cycle to work (assuming it's similar to the one here) is a fantastic deal as it's pre-tax. Sadly it'll only go up to £1k which is not enough for the next bikes i'm looking at...

Since the new year I’m down to 12 stone from 15 and down to 12% body fat from 19% which as a 6ft 4 chap I’m very happy with. I’ve never been this lean or stuck to an exercise programme this long.

As @Indie said, second hand is a good option but make sure the frame isn't too small or too big. I think road bike or even a mountainbike / road bike hybrid type might be a good start. That's basically how I went about it. I paid £150 for mine but it's really well maintained and all.

Thanks guys. I guess it's also that I'm not too knowledgeable and would worry buying second hand about the bike's condition.

I've lost just over a stone and a half. BMI still tells me I'm overweight, which is just bollocks, although I'd like to dip below 13 stone, which is still 8lbs away. Totally achievable by September, which is my goal.

My gym attendance has slowed down as my life has become pretty fucking busy. But that's OK, weight loss was my main goal.

I really need to get back on the wagon. Still not properly lost the lockdown weight and with the move/work/holiday I’ve not really had the time to get into a proper routine. I think I’ll eat and drink what I want until I’m back home then get back on it properly, probably starting with upping my gym days.

Take it for a decent test ride, 15-20k or so if you can. You'll get a feel for its geometry and size and anything that doesn't feel or sound right. A good service after you buy it at a bike shop should in theory do you right. I've bought thrashed downhill bikes and after a full service they ride amazing. (Then get robbed)

Has anyone had luck with the 16:8 intermittent fasting? I’ve generally been eating healthier and back to exercising 4-5x per week. I lost 6 pounds pretty much immediately but have stalled the past week or so. I’d like to be back at my 180 lb frame (at 189 now) so figured I’d try something new. My main issue is that I usually don’t get back from the gym and therefore don’t eat until 9-10pm during the week. Going to make the effort to do the 16:8 method 12pm to 8pm. I already don’t eat breakfast so…

So I've gotten my bike and I love it but I'm scared to actually ride it because every time I try to shove my feet into the pedal straps I lose my balance and almost fall. 😠

Take the pedal straps off?
That's what reddit said but my friend said to persevere cause it's worth it in the long run?

Just went for a quick ride around the area and once I was on i was fine and it feels GREAT. just need to work out the gears now!

Hi, never tried and I know it would not work for me. From a gluttony point of view but also for health reasons. I'm definitely someone who needs to eat 4-5 times per day and across the day - just maybe not the portions I ate when I was 25 so I don't balloon.

Not sure about your eating habits and preferences beyond skipping breakfast but have you given the old salat + grilled meat or seafood consideration for the nights you get back late from the gym? Just because it's something that can be prepped easily and it's not the heaviest of dinner options while still contributing the most important macros.

Also, my guess is you know this - but plateaus are normal, no matter if you train to gain weight/muscle in a healthy way or lose weight/fat in a healthy way. Just like progressively overloading weights, it makes sense to progressively unload calories. So just lowering the intake by 100/200 kcals can do the trick to give your body a new impulse.

Having said that, if 16:8 is working out fine for you and you're feeling energised and not sapped, then maybe that's an option for you, indeed. :disco:

ANYWAYS.

Finally switching back from home gym to actual gym. Found one that's 10 minutes by bike from my flat, did a test training twice this week between 5pm and 7pm and for that time of the day it was SUPER quiet, maybe 4 people at the same time max, well ventilated, everyone with their masks on away from machines and weights, so this is looking good - for however long gyms are going to be open :zombie:

I'm still the heaviest I've ever been and haven't been able to get a ton of momentum going since injury/lockdown, so it'll be next summer before I feel fully confident, but getting a bike has been great. I don't feel in the same boring gym loop as before. I can't say I'm pushing myself crazily yet but it's nice to have another option while I can't run.

Bless @Barnacle your "heavy" is pretty much the same as my "heavy" :eyes: :D

But yes, it's nice to have a mix between the gym and outdoor activities at the moment. I hope the weather in September and October will allow a lot of cycling and hiking. Will spend the weekend swimming again, if the forecast holds up. 🏊‍♂️

Haha yes. The downside about living up here is the dark evenings which will make post work cycles hard. But there are always weekends. I'd love to get good at swimming, especially now that pools are opening up again.

Moving house etc has really thrown me off my game. I feel out of shape, but haven't gained a pound.

Going to start getting back on it and need somewhere to be held accountable. This is where I miss WW meetings as I react best to having someone in front of me saying "ooh 2 off, well done" or "oopsie a little half on, had a good weekend?". I'm a people pleaser and not very good at it on my own. And it just wouldn't be the same with these post-covid "Express workshop" things.

Anyway will weigh in tonight. I've had a few weekends recently of "I'll probably make a start on Monday so I'll indulge a little one last time" which is the wrong mindset I know but there you have it. Really mean it this time though.

I hope this isn’t just because of that cunt from work!
