Awards Season 2021

So Nomadland wasn’t nominated which means Best Actress and Movie could still go to it in the Oscars.

The Actor and Supporting Actor are further sealed. Supporting Actress is still unclear but I would be very happy with Youn Yuh-Jung

Not getting the love for The Trial of the Chicago 7. And in what world was Gillian Anderson a lead performer in The Crown, yet Daniel Kaluuya was Supporting in Judas and the Black Messiah?

The SAG only does one acting award for tv so it could be lead or supporting.

God love Gillian Anderson but she was not the best dramatic perf in The Crown this season. That's ridiculous.

Did anyone see the first round of the “virtual” BAFTAs last night? I quite enjoyed it as they actually had experts on going through each of the nominees before announcing the winners. I personally found it more interesting and entertaining compared to snarky jokes in front of celebrities. Maybe they should do that for the technical awards going forward instead of skipping over most of them in the broadcast.

Today’s nominated movie that I watched was Quo Vadis, Aida? I didn’t think that anything could be more devastating than Collective but this chewed me up and spat me out and now I’m a wreck. What a harrowing experience and the lead actress truly destroys any other actor/actress nominated in the acting categories.

I must get around to that one.

I watched Pieces of a Woman. Vanessa Kirby was very impressive but the film is an absolute MESS that never seems to land on a consistent tone or direction. There's a completely shameless 'this is my Oscar speech' moment from Ellen Burstyn that comes so much out of nowhere that it genuinely reminded me of a scene from The Room. :D

Also, even not taking into account what a piece of shit he is, Shia Lebouf really did not have the chops to carry his part in this.

I don’t think I’ll get to Pieces of a Woman which is by all accounts not a good movie.

I also watched The White Tiger yesterday which was an extremely fun watch.

I have watched approximately zero new films this year but I am looking forward to seeing some LOVELY OUTFITS.

And maybe discovering some films I should watch before I can return to polite society, but mostly the outfits.

Honestly it’s nice to see actors attending an event.

Rich people celebrating. We missed them.

I was about to post that :D

Carey is adorable though. It’s a great look for her.

Oh I hadn’t noticed that Celeste was nominated for best song. This is nice.

I remember seeing him in Shifty more than 10 years ago, thinking he was so cute, and then was blown away by him in The Night Of. Glad to see he's finally getting that recognition.

Nightcrawler was his first US breakthrough. That movie was great.

It’s like a handful of people

It helps that it’s Regina King and Soderbergh

Oh. I missed the part that those were the nominees :D I thought she was just chatting.
