Books you’ve read in 2021

Weren’t we supposed to read that together?
My copy has been waiting for me to be read for a year now, but I’m now busy (re)reading a gigantic 1000+ paged book about the European history. I’ve owned it since 2006 and read most of it but this time I’m reading it from start to finish.

I’m still reading this, I’ve reached ca page 900 and there’s only about 250 left. It has ruined my plan to read 50 books this year as I need one more book after this one. So book #50 will have to be one of my art books with mostly pictures that I’ll be reading before the NYE celebrations start.

You could tell that review was going to be salty as soon as she was lied to about preview copies :D

“This fantasy novel, set in an alternative USA, doesn’t mention 9/11

Exactly - the reviewer spends most of it talking about A Little Life.

girl bye.

We stan Hanya in the gay community and she loves us - it's a reciprocated and intertwined love story and critics can fuck off.

And WHAT

Cher
Diana
Donna
Madonna
Kylie
Britney
Gaga
Beyoncé
Ariana
Dua
Rina
Hanya

AND WHAT ABOUT IT.

A tiny bit gooped at this. I snagged a free proof copy from the publishers and now I don’t know if I want to read it.

I could feel the tide turning (I’m sure they could to since they’re focusing on influencers for the promo). A Little Life is an engrossing read but for me once I sat with it I found to be an off putting experience that I didn’t want to replicate.

Yeah, I’m not into trauma porn at all. I had to laugh at the bit in the review which says Hanya has never written about a child that wasn’t sexually abused.

Breaking news Mopsy readers: I've read 25 books in 2021, exceeding my goal of 20.

However, I am currently reading both Jazz and Year of the Monkey (short and over halfway through both).

So the question is: will I reach 27 before the end of the year?

More importantly, if I pull a @Holly and add a few short books with just pictures and that sort of pretentious stuff would I even potentially reach 30?

@Holly - I see you :eyes: . It's not personal. It's just drag/Madonna loonery/book snobbery.

My reading this year has been horrific moopy. :( even with an obligatory book club meeting every month.

That said, I'm ending the year with The Mountains Sing by Nguyen Phan Que Mai and really loving it.

How did you manage to get that in one picture?

My favourite books this year were Doctor Zhivago and Maurice.
