Oh yay, Words of Radiance is so good. The Way of Kings is an intro but things really kick off in the second book.
Don’t forget to read Edgedancer (the novella) before Oathbringer. Also Warbeaker as some characters will cross over.
Ordered this on Amazon today. It really is beautifully written isn’t it.
If it left you wanting more Thatcher era gay Scottish writing, I’d recommend ‘Maggie & me’ by Damian Barr. This one is a memoir.
@Phoenix, I was just thinking about the books and you, our very own Wit. I've got 200 pages left of Words of Radiance. I'm really enjoying the plot, the world, the characters, however the writing leaves something to be desired overall, especially the superficial and/or quippy dialogues and monologues of Shallan and Kaladin. it verges on what I imagine YA is written like... some of the drawings are horrible too, it's like being transported back to deviantart in 2003 I'll be taking a break after I'm done with this TOME and then resume in the new year
why is there no paperback of Edgedancer?
Wit is not an exclusive Stormlight character, he’s a Cosemere character (he appears in all the books although this is the most we get of him) and some day Brandon wants to write a trilogy about him. But I’m sure we will get more of his motivations as the books progress (hint: the letters in the epigraphs are from and to Wit).
I did! Some parts with the teacher really turned my stomach and made for uncomfortable reading, but I found it quite easy and enjoyable otherwise. It's not a very complex allegory, is it? I was sort of hoping she'd want to get with her cousin again at the end!
What did you think?
I haven't read it yet! I really liked the deadpan attitude of Convenience Store Woman so I'm a bit scared this'll be too abstract for me. it's required reading chez moi however. it'll probably be a January purchase
It's a child's perspective for most of it, so it's mega easy to read!
I've got Breast and Eggs on my reading list and more Tsushima, but Mrs Bev says I have to read something else before going back to Japan.
it's been re-published or something, Breasts and Eggs? I read it many years ago and wondered why it was out again... I still haven't read Child of Fortune which is the only other Tsushima I know of. it's on one of the shelves though, like so many others
I got Earthlings by the way, chance would have it that the bookstore I popped into earlier had on it sale for the weekend. I got one of Aleksijevitj too. it's going to be a heavy xmas and thanks for implying that I read like a child
Mieko's only just been translated into English! I've been saving Kawabata and Osamu Dazai for a visit to Japan. And I didn't mean to imply that, I was thinking about me! I have to read so much for class at the moment, I was really grateful for somrthing unchallenging!
Report back on Earthlings though.
